  1. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 11:45 AM) You bet your ass they would. Yep, and there's precedent for it as well (the nixed A-Rod-to-Red Sox deal). QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 11:45 AM) You bet your ass they would. Yep, and there's precedent for it as well (the nixed A-Rod-to-Red Sox deal).
  2. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 11:38 AM) That's different then. Of course, Berry could be playing coy and non-committal. Or Levine misinterpreted the agent's comments. Or maybe he just wants the Chicago Media Machine to shut up for a while. Saying that they're currently talking would just fuel the fire and lead to more incorrect information being thrown around. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 11:39 AM) yeah, its about 5 million less than what he could make per year on the open market, but not all baseball players are greedy snobs, some are just good guys. Agreed that Mark's a good guy who would likely give the Sox a break, but 4/50 is just insanely low. The MBLPA might get involved if Mark accepted an offer like that.
  3. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 11:32 AM) I'd be interested to know when Bruce last talked with Mark's agent. If this morning, then put away the part favors. If a day or two ago, then .... That's exactly what I was wondering. It doesn't appear that Mark's agent is doing much to artifically jack up his client's value right now, so that's potentially good news.
  4. QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 11:28 AM) If they trade Javy, Kenny better get back atleast the value of Chris Young, El Duque and Vizcaino. And if they trade Javy, they'd better do it after either Mark or Jon signs an extension.
  5. QUOTE(dasox24 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 10:14 AM) Then, trade Contreras for sure, and either Vazquez (hopefully) or Garland (probably) for some good, young talent. I don't want Javy dealt unless it's to clear room for a Mark or Jon extension. I'd much rather see Jose dealt. I won't be happy about Jose leaving, but it's the right thing to do.
  6. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 10:12 AM) Dont worry, Bombs Away Bruce can saved himself later with MJH "The best analyst in the business, he stays up all night, the one, the only, BRUUUUUCE Levine is on the phone with breaking news. " "We have found out that just a few minutes ago, Kenny found Marks agent and they have nailed together a deal. Early when I reported that the didnt talk, well that was true. It just happened in the last 5 minutes" MJH " Thats why you are the best in the business Bruuuuuuuce Levine. You heard it here first listeners, Mark Burhle will be a white sox for more years. Then tomorrow we can have a Kotex Boy article talking about how the whitesox have pigeon holded themselves into a long term deal with a pitcher and how it will bite them. They could of rebuild the entire team with the prospects for Buerhle. KW, Jerry and the Blizzard of OZ dont like prospects and dont like winning.
  7. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 10:01 AM) Whether Buehrle is signed or not (ignoring everything within the last 13 pages), I would then expect Garland to be traded. Regardless of Williams labeling him unavailable, we NEED an influx of young talent on this team somehow. Someone with value has to be dealt. Contreras won't be enough. I don't see Jon (Mark's buddy) going anywhere if Mark indeed signs an extension. Jose will likely be the odd man out. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 10:06 AM) I'm amazed they are sticking with this. Somebody is going to end up looking REALLY bad. I'm almost beginning to think that there's some truth to a deal getting done soon (albeit at more like 4/60 or 4/65). They'd be complete idiots to keep this going now if they had nothing to back it up.
  8. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 09:53 AM) He's actually a cubs fan. What does that have to do with anything? I'm not saying that he's great, or even good. But the time devoted to answering incredibly stupid questions from incredibly stupid people is what really makes the post-game show unlistenable. Unless Rongey is the one calling all of the shots with regard to format, I can't blame him for that.
  9. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 09:30 AM) Eddie and Jobo would do a much better postgame show than Chris Rongey. LOL, those two clowns are still on B96? I'll give Rongey a pass. He has to spend half of his show trying to talk sense into complete idiot callers.
  10. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 08:59 AM) Think Buerhle would do a Tom Brady and out of respect for the organization take less money. IIRC, Brady didn't take less money. He re-structured his deal to give the Pats more cap room.
  11. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 05:10 AM) KW consults Paulie and asks him for roster advice. No way he goes anywhere. +1 Paulie's the captain. Trading him to the Yankees is about as likely as them trading Jeter to us.
  12. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 08:35 AM) They stream online IIRC. www.670thescore.com Thanks, didn't know that. Holy crap, that Mike North popup is annoying!
  13. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 08:30 AM) I guarantee you that if Buehrle signs he won't be getting traded. The Cell would be burned to the ground if JR allowed that.
  14. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 08:29 AM) As a famous cleanup man once said "Lets not start sucking each other's dicks just yet"
  15. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 08:19 AM) I'm telling you, something doesn't smell right about this. Hey, I could be wrong, but this is almost TOO GOOD of a deal. That's exactly what I'm thinking. Not that Mark is greedy or anything, but 4/50 is ridiculously cheap for a pitcher of his caliber. There has to be a ton of incentives, a boatload of perks (perhaps including tarp-sliding clause?), and a massive buyout for this to be believable.
  16. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 08:06 AM) Holy s***...4 years 50 million would be an absolute bargain. +1,000,000 If it's true, I'm purchasing a Buehrle jersey immediately. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 08:06 AM) I hate to rain on this parade, but I'd be VERY skeptical of this. That's all. Absolutely
  17. QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 11:24 AM) Well that would be part of this "hometown discount" that many are hoping for... it would already be a HUGE stretch for the Sox to offer 5, 6 is absolutely unthinkable.....and he does state that he wants to stay, maybe even more now than ever before. Mark's "hometown" is in Missouri. I seriously doubt that he'd take one less year and over $10 million less in guaranteed money to stay in Chicago.
  18. Paris Hilton's father is the billionaire and I seriously doubt that he's a clueless idiot. But of course being born into or marrying into money works as well.
  19. Crede was also supposed to be the next Mike Schmidt. Didn't he win two minor league batting titles?
  20. QUOTE(greg775 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 07:59 PM) Yeah but in the "real world" sometimes the workers feel that way because their bosses are clueless idiots who have made billions because of the work of the peons. Most people's immediate supervisors are not billionaires. And you don't become a billionaire by being a clueless idiot.
  21. You should be upset, Mr. Dye. You tanked your contract year!
  22. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 04:19 PM) I'm not sure. I always thought Boras was just involved with baseball, but I'm not positive about that. I know Lee Steinman is/was the super agent in football (but Rosenhaus has kind of came in and stolen some of his thunder). Rosenhaus was on track to becoming the Scott Boras of the NFL before his ridiculous defense of TO. IIRC, he lost several clients after that.
  23. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 04:11 PM) He makes way more off football players anyway. That's surprising, since baseball contracts are not only larger, but guaranteed. Boras could only theoretically take a cut of the guaranteed signing bonus and first year of a NFL player's contract, no?
  24. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 03:57 PM) Tom Hicks is a complete dips***, he'll never stop signing Boras clients because he's in love with overpriced talent. Just last year he gave Kevin Millwood (a Boras Client) a 5 year, $60M contract. HEY! Another 5 year contract that appears to have been a bad idea! But you don't understand. Mark is DIFFERENT!
  25. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 03:34 PM) Eh, that's usually not much of a problem. They were able to sign Crede to two 1 year contracts during his first two ARB eligible seasons with no problem. Usually Boras doesn't even get involved in the 1 year ARB eligible contracts, he just lets an associate work those out. Scott boras really only gets involved with big time draft picks and big time free agents. He has far too many clients to be worrying about a couple arb eligible players. Didn't realize that he has nothing to do with the one-year deals prior to FA, although it makes sense. I can understand why the Sox wouldn't want to negotiate with Boras after drafting a high pick (e.g., Jeff Weaver), but if I were KW I'd just bite the bullet when it comes to the signing bonus, knowing that they're saving a ton of money by not negotiating with Boras during FA.
