  1. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 17, 2006 -> 07:23 PM) Exactly. Garland had a f***ing 7.something ERA. He deserved all the s*** that was thrown at him, especially since he's making a good deal of money now. He pitched well tonight, nobody's debating that. ^^^ Good work last night, Jon. Build on it.
  2. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 18, 2006 -> 06:48 AM) Someone probably had to bring Farmer to the side and let him know that Singleton was a rookie, and to stop being so harsh. I think that was the worst thing about listening to them, Farmer was just blowing Chris up every chance he got and Chris was understandably timid about it. Is it just me, or has Farmer seemed a bit agitated over the past couple of weeks? His voice seems louder and more rushed than usual. Then again, I'm listening at work and have it turned up just loud enough to hear. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ May 18, 2006 -> 08:51 AM) You must not watch the TV team. No kidding. Hawk makes Rex Huddler look impartial.
  3. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 18, 2006 -> 08:44 AM) I would say we will outnumber cubs fans at our place in a much bigger ratio than in previous years. The whole lower bowl is almost all season ticket holders. I hope that cuts down the number of fights. Something tells me that drunken Cubs fans and their already-fragile egos are going to be less tolerant towards belligerent, drunken Sox fans this season.
  4. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ May 18, 2006 -> 08:10 AM) Chanting 1908 over and over again just makes you look petty. Or like a Yankees fan ("1918!"). Agreed that it's petty, but I'd probably still laugh if others chose to do it.
  5. QUOTE(Nokona @ May 17, 2006 -> 02:09 PM) Bonds 3 Career ABs against springer. 2001: HR. 2004: HBP. 2005: HBP. Springer's just as much of a douchebag as Bonds for not letting it go. The previous time that Springer had faced Bonds, he hit him in the knee (on the first pitch, I believe). If you go back to the first page of this thread and watch the pitch sequence, he's clearly aiming for his knees on the second pitch.
  6. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 17, 2006 -> 01:43 PM) What did Garner do to earn the label of being a dirtbag? I guess the nice way to say it is that Garner's an instigator. IIRC, he was suspended for being involved in a brawl while managing the Brewers and is believed to have played a part in the big Sox/Tigers smackdown fight in 2000. His history with the Sox in particular is bad. He got into a fight with one of our old fist-base coaches and even challeneged Hawk and Wimpy to a fight. Apparently he took offense when they (correctly) suggested that he was telling his pitchers to hit our batters. Garner's a douche and a mental midget. I feel sorry for Astros players and fans. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 17, 2006 -> 01:56 PM) Disgracing the game by throwing at someone? People are thrown at all the time and it certainly doesn't disgrace the game. That's a part of the game. When Escobar hit AJ, did it disgrace the game? I doubt it. When that guy hit Vizquel a few weeks ago, did that disgrace the game? Of course not...I can't even remember the name of the guy who did it, that' show small of a disgrace it was. Hitting somebody in the back or rear end is much different than throwing at somebody's knees or jaw.
  7. QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ May 17, 2006 -> 12:29 PM) No. Hit him in the head with a 100 mph fastball and get it over with. Yeah, giving Barry a concussion would serve justice. I never thought I'd be sticking up for Bonds, but the lack of maturity displayed in some of these posts is truly sad. :headshake QUOTE(Soxbadger @ May 17, 2006 -> 12:56 PM) I really dont care that much. I just think its silly to promote vigilantism. Therefore baseball has to suspend Springer, and most likely Garner. This is probalby the only time that you'll see Soxbadger and I agree on a Bonds-related incident.
  8. QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ May 17, 2006 -> 11:43 AM) How about blatantly cheating? Does he deserve it then? When Bonds was juicing, there were no penalties for steroid use outlined in the CBA. Hell, Springer's own union was behind that. So, calling it "cheating" is a real stretch. And how do we know that Springer wasn't juicing as well? Throwing a fastball at any player's knee and shoulder is childish and dangerous.
  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 17, 2006 -> 11:21 AM) I see no problem at all with throwing at a guy if you're convinced he was a juicer. I guess that Fehr and Orza should get beaned as well, since they were the ones who enabled Bonds and others to be juicers. The pitch that hit Bonds was about three or four inches from his head. And earlier pitch in that sequence was aimed right at his knee. There's no excuse for that kind of crap.
  10. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ May 17, 2006 -> 10:20 AM) Barry Bonds puts on the largest arm pad in the world and crowds the plate. He never gets a strike called on him. Why should he not be brushed back or hit.... Springer threw the first pitch BEHIND him. Brush-back, my ass. He was drilled in the shoulder, right below the head. If Springer had missed, he may have put Barry in the hospital. If it's not that big of a deal, how about I get a major league pitcher to plunk you in the shoulder with a 95 mph fastball? :headshake
  11. QUOTE(mrzo2733 @ May 17, 2006 -> 09:30 AM) Barry Bonds is not a good guy. So I don't think he deserves to be treated with class. I hope other people start doing this too. Russ Springer just became one of my favorite players. That's a real bush-league attitude. The fact that Barry's "not a good guy" doesn't mean that he deserves to get plunked with a 95 mph fastball. Unless Bonds did something to provoke this, Springer was way out of line.
  12. I hope that Springer gets suspended. I dislike Bonds as much as the next person, but that's no reason to throw at him.
  13. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 17, 2006 -> 06:11 AM) We scored 7 runs last night, we lost because our middle relief is amazingly bad right now....not sure how this relates. ^^^ BA definitely needs to step it up at the plate, but it's not like he's losing games for us.
  14. QUOTE(joeynach @ May 17, 2006 -> 01:39 AM) Looking at the tigers schedule they have only played 7 games against teams currently over .500. In those games they are 3-4 including being swept at home by us. They are also 19-8 against teams currently under .500 and 2-1 against the A's who are currently a .500 team. It seems they have played a lot of Minn, Cle (who is really stuggling), Balt, Sea, and KC to make their hot start. The purpose of this is not to compare them to the sox, you can if you want, and our schedule but to show sometimes the weak schedule can be decieving from such a small sample of games. P.S We have only played 6 games against team above .500 teams, we are 5-1. Regardless of who the Tigers have played, they've gotten the job done. Sweeping crappy teams is the hallmark of a good squad. My guess is that they'll come back down to reality after a few series against the Red Sox and Yankees, but I don't think that they're an '05 Orioles-like fluke. But it's only mid-May. We'll see how they're doing in August. QUOTE(Beltin @ May 17, 2006 -> 08:21 AM) It would be great to see the Sox win the Division and maybe Detroit get the WC. I don't feel strongly one way or the other towards the Tigers, but it was somewhat sad to see a proud, tradition-rich organization like that be in the crapper for so long. It's nice to see that they're possibly past that point now.
  15. IIRC, the crosstown series has been pretty evenly-split singe interleague play was introduced. No matter how good one team is doing and how down-and-out the other is, sweeps have been few and far between. Despite how awfully the Cubs have been recently, I wouldn't be surprised if they took one of out three this weekend.
  16. Naming just one is difficult. But here goes... '80s: Baines '90s: Robin '00s: Paulie
  17. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 16, 2006 -> 12:12 PM) Let's not have this escalate, guys. Don't look at me. I was just having a conversation with somebody about the size of the ballpark. Soxtalk should be above this I'm-a-bigger-fan-than-you crap. If you want that, go over to WSI.
  18. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 16, 2006 -> 11:34 AM) I love being told what the capacity of MY stadium is by somebody who's obviously never been. I love being told that WE should be able to put more butts in the seats by somebody who will invariably play the "but I'm from out of state" card. WC you may have missed the memo, but you can take your argument back to 2003 where it belongs. You're dead wrong that "I've never been." I lived in the Midwest (Chicago area, Iowa, Indiana) for almost 23 years and attended ~20-30 games at the old and new ballparks. Nice try.
  19. The fans in Dallas sure are fickle. According to Ballparks.com, the 2005 seating capacity was 40,615. This is in agreement with what the Sox report on their web site. And I don't believe that we lost any seats between then and this year, but I could be wrong. It's possible that 40,615 counts standing-room-only capacity as well. The Sox would only have to average 34,600 per game to hit 2.8 million. That's a very doable goal and I would be somewhat disappointed if they were to fall short.
  20. QUOTE(SoxFanInDallas @ May 16, 2006 -> 10:53 AM) At about 38k capacity, that would require a SELL OUT of EVERY game, plus some! 38K sell-out is just above 3MM According to the Sox's web site, the Cell's capacity is 40,615. I also recall our WS attendance figures being in the 41,000+ range (standing room only, I'm assuming). The Cubs and Red Sox pack their stadiums every day. There's no reason why we can't. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 16, 2006 -> 10:58 AM) Blasphemy! Sorry, I meant "best teams on paper."
  21. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ May 16, 2006 -> 10:37 AM) We could well be the best team in baseball but once the playoffs start, anything goes. We certainly were one of the best last year, but you have to admit: we got some breaks. The fatal dropped ball in CF in the Royals/Cleveland game. The AJ strikeout. The booted grounder by Boston in game 2 of the playoffs. Dye getting called as HBP. Yep, and our ALCS and WS opponents also lost their aces to injuries. If the best teams in each league were to have won their respective pennants last year, we would've seen an Angels/Cards WS.
  22. QUOTE(SoxFanInDallas @ May 16, 2006 -> 10:08 AM) Well, Some of those teams are going to outdraw the Sox because they have bigger stadiums. Everyone b****ed about the upper deck, so in order to fix it, we lost seats. Seats I bet some people would not be complaining about today. This has nothing to do with the Cell's seating capacity. The Sox could draw 3.2 million and still have a couple empty seats per game.
  23. Obviously, anything less than another ring would be a disappointment. Realistically, though, I expect 90+ wins and another trip to the playoffs. I also expect at least 2.8 million butts in the seats this year so that our team will be financially-able to take several more shots at the WS in years to come. There's no reason that smaller markets like Atlanta, St. Louis, and San Francisco should out-draw a Chicago baseball team that's coming off of a championship.
  24. QUOTE(WinningUgly85 @ May 16, 2006 -> 05:44 AM) Call me crazy but I think we might trade either Pods or Uribe. Uribe has been amazing at short stop but his bat needs to pick up. I think that either Cintron might be a temp while we trade both pods and Uribe to try to get someone. I think Ozuna is ready to play play especially in left field. If you think about it Pods is starting to get things together but for awhile he was struggling. We need him to get on base and use his speed thats where he is most deadly. I think Ozuna has that speed as well. I could see us eventually dealing both of those guys, but not this year. And we won't dump Uribe until we have somebody in our farm system who will be as good defensively. That may take a while. Pods will likely be the first to go, but I'm not sure that Ozuna is good enough to be a starter.
  25. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 15, 2006 -> 04:42 PM) Watching Joe Crede for the past season and a 1/4 has been a pleasure to watch both defensively and offensively. For the amount of money he's making, he's one of the best value players in the LEAGUE right now. True dat.
