QUOTE(Damen @ May 2, 2006 -> 12:15 PM) See above. We all know you've got to rest guys. But when it's 3 starters at a time, Ozzie is severely hampering our ability to win that day. The bottom line is that the Sox are 18-8 and in first place, despite a wretched bullpen. Complain all you want about these so-called "Sunday Lineups" but, when all is said and done, Ozzie's strategy seems to be working pretty freaking well.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 2, 2006 -> 12:36 PM) Actually MB tends to have these meltdowns it seems semi-regularly. It's just the way the guy is, he'll shut down a few teams in a row then allow 6 runs, he's done it his entire career, especially last year. I agree. For every three gems he pitches, he'll drop a turd.

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ May 2, 2006 -> 11:55 AM) Ohh come on... Has Widger caught anyone yet that has actually had a decent game... I mean lets get real here... I love him for what he did last year but that was LAST YEAR! His CERA sucks it hard! Despite what some people here think, Buehrle isn't infallable. He's more than capable of a bad game every once in a while without any help from a bad backup catcher.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ May 2, 2006 -> 11:23 AM) Also possible we avoided serious injuries by not overworking our main guys. Just a thought. Good point. Again, this isn't a video game. Starters need days off. While I'm not sure that the second game of a series is the best time to do it, we had won 17 of the last 20 going into today and will still be in first place after we lose this game. It's not like we were in desperate need of a win today. If you want to point fingers, point them at Buehrle. My God... :rolly

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ May 2, 2006 -> 10:45 AM) Widger causes everyone to have bad starts... Even Buherle had a bad start with Widger behind the plate... Buehrle has had his share of mediocre and bad games with other catchers behind the plate.

QUOTE(fathom @ May 2, 2006 -> 07:19 AM) I was pretty sure that was a typo, and they meant Garland or Contreras in the article. Trust me, I'd be thrilled if Garcia is the pitcher to go. I'm sure that Kenny has spoken to Ozzie about separating business from personal matters. If KW thinks that dealing Garcia this winter will put us in a better position to win, he'll do it.

They should be booing their own team for sucking so badly over the past week.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 1, 2006 -> 11:58 AM) It wouldn't just be cool. It'd be almost poetic justice. For years of cheating, Bonds will see himself fall short of the all-time HR lead, then witness his greatest single-season achievement be broken. Whereas, Pujols would break the record after years of being a great, charitable, clean guy. Man, that's too sweet to ever come true. Or is it... ^^^

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 1, 2006 -> 12:41 PM) I'm just glad I don't watch ESPN, they should realize how many viewers this s*** costs them. There are a lot of people in this country that couldn't give a s*** less about these 2 teams. Yep, pretty much everyone west and south of Pennsylvania. ESPN doesn't give a rat's ass about anybody outside of New York, New England, and New Jersey.

The actions of Angels fans make little sense to me. Then again, much of what goes on in So Cal in general is beyond compehension as well.

Uribe's one of the best defensive shortstops in the league. Why the hell would you want to bench him?

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 03:37 PM) 4-2 Westcoast roadtrip is definitely more than I could have hoped for. I'm especially impressed with how they handled Santana. He dominated Detroit's lineup his last start, and I was expected similar results this evening. Garland didn't impress me, but what's important is he limited damage following his three run, 5th inning. We can thank Salmon and Cintron for that. Yep, losing 2/3 to the Mariners stings a hell of a lot less after sweeping the Angels. Santana has very impressive stuff and will be an ace on day. Just not today. Garland got hit hard again, but had his normal velocity and just didn't hit his spots. And he did stay out there for 7 full innings. He's still probably the best #5 pitcher in the league, so I'm not going to worry about him much at this point.

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 11:09 AM) The pitching wasn't what made the offense go. Pods was the sparkplug to the offense last year. Yes he's struggling, but that doesn't worry me as much as it would if this was last year. Not so much because I believe he'll come out of it (Not a big believer in his talent), but because of the fact we don't rely on him as much. Our offense was also wretched last year and leaned heavily on Pods' base-stealing. While an unhealthy Pods certainly hurts us, we're not going to be completely screwed if he doesn't steal 59 bases again.

Real classy move by Escobar. :rolly If he wants to bean somebody, Doug Eddings is the one who made the bad call.
-
Yeah, wow, I had no idea that he was still in the majors. Good for him. He's gone through some rough times, both professionally and personally. Wasn't Norton the one whose father was in jail for murdering his wife?

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 29, 2006 -> 11:26 AM) Heh, trust me I know that. Like I said, it's taken a lot of convincing for me to even believe Detroit will have a chance to finish over .500. Like I said, I don't think they're going to be serious contenders come september but they'll hang around for a while imo. They're beginning to remind me of the '03 Royals.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 29, 2006 -> 10:56 AM) Maggs was about Average IMO. Average throwing arm, average range. I think Dye is an upgrade over him on both parts. Especially the Range, he's just a lot quicker out there than Ordonez ever was. Nah, I think that the '98-'03 Maggs was above average defensively. Certainly not Ichiro, but "average" is selling him short. Dye quicker than the pre-injury Ordonez? I don't see it. If he is, it's not by much. I think that he gets better reads on balls, though.

QUOTE(RX Bandits @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 10:13 PM) That guy with the "sox cheat" sign pissed me off Un "Eddings sucks" or "Escobar chokes" sign would've been more accuarte.
-
QUOTE(Wedge @ Apr 29, 2006 -> 09:33 AM) He's a considerable defensive improvement considering our previous right fielder. No way. Before the knee injury, Maggs was a very solid defensive RF. Jermaine may not be very graceful, but he gets the job done.

A half-season suspension sounds about right to me. Didn't this guy also get suspended a few games for bumping an ump back in Double A? Dude needs an anger management course.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 12:37 PM) Well, this post is a microcosm of my beef with the Singleton criticisms. Thank you. You are going to hold it against Singleton for replacing a legend? Singleton is replacing the best play-by-play announcer in baseball. Period. If you are going to hold a novice to Rooney's standards, you are going to be seriously disappointed. We've gone over this time and time again. If you want to express your displeasure at someone, make it Score management via the White Sox. We have yet to reach the All-Star break and Singleton is already being labeled one of the worst announcers in Sox history. Give the guy a freaking chance. It doesn't help that he has to sit next to Farmer, a guy that is barely cut-out for color duties. The venom being spewed at Singleton just floors me. FWIW, I think that Singleton is further along than DJ was in his first year. Sox fans are spoiled as hell after years and years of Rooney and Hawk. Hell, even Farmer is a pretty good color guy (IMO). Most of the people whining here have no freaking idea of what bad announcing is like. Try watching a Mariners game on TV. Those guys are absolutely wretched. I mean, I shut off the TV four innings into Monday's game because I couldn't stand to listen to them anymore. They make Farmer and Singleton look like Cosell and Scully.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 06:30 AM) In terms of just a person?? Schilling is probably a bigger dick than Bonds, but Bonds just trumps everybody since he was a future HOF, 500/500 player....AND THEN decided to be a cheating ass when he didn't need to. Few people liked Bonds even before the steroid scandal. Curt isn't a very good teammate, but Barry is far-and-away worse. Schilling is also a borderline HOFer as well. He was a huge part in bringing WS titles to two teams and will get his 200th win this year. Pitching through that ankle injury in that comback in the ALCS and the sweep in the WS will be a huge part of his legacy.

QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 10:10 AM) If Hawk really was making jokes about Wimpy's abuse, then that's f***ing pathetic. Personally, I think DJ is a great guy, and he's improved dramatically from when he first started. While we know that the priest abuse story is true, is there any reliable evidence that Hawk actually joked about it? That seems kind of far-fetched, as it's something that no reasonable person would do. No doubt that Hawk has a massive ego but, wow, that's a completley different level of being a jerk. I always liked Paciorek in the booth, up until the time that I met him at Soxfest years ago. When my sister (~14 years old at the time) asked for his autograph, she asked that he sign it "Wimpy." Apparently he doesn't like that name, because he gave her this really evil look before signing it "Tom Paciorek." I thought that was really low-class and lost a lot of respect for him that day. I think that DJ's a really mediocre color guy, but if he doesn't give nasty looks to 14-year-old girls, he's a better option than Wimpy IMO.

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 09:27 AM) I third it. I'm an all or nothing guy. I root for the Cardinals as long as they're not playing the Sox. But the emotion invested in them isn't even comparable to what I put into the Sox.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 04:52 PM) I see him in a Cleveland hat as well unless he hits 150 homers in the next 3 years. I agree. He was in Cleveland for 12 years. Him going to Cooperstown in a Sox hat would be like Frank winning the WS with Oakland this year and wearing an A's hat during his induction. Since Manny will likely go in a BoSox hat, Jim will likely feel even more inclined to represent the Tribe. That was a nice article, despite the fact that it came from ESPN The Mag. I freaking hate them. I decided to not renew my subscription not long ago and stopped sending payments to them. Apparently they automatically renew your subscription every year and will actually send you a letter threatening action from a collection agency if you don't pay for a subscription that you never agreed to renew in the first place. And, interestingly, this "outstanding balance" can be magically "forgiven" by a simple phone call requesting a cancellation of your account. (Since they didn't send the magazines yet, they obviously can't demand payment through a collection agency.) It's a sleazy predatory tactic where they try to frighten and intimidate customers into renewing a subscription. I'm going to enjoy writing my letter to the Better Business Bureau this weekend.
