QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 10:12 AM) Given Ozzie's relationship with Freddy, it's going to be a hard sell for KW to trade Garcia. Possibly. Then again, Ozzie isn't the GM. I'm sure that KW has talked to Ozzie about separating business from family in the past. It'll depend on how Vazquez does this year. If he doesn't meet expectations, he'll likely be the one traded. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 10:17 AM) I'm not even saying that it will be the White Sox paying it... You gotta realize there are 29 other teams that are creaming their jeans with the thought of Mark Buehrle in their rotation, and Mark, Kenny, and the rest of MLB knows it. Going strictly off of Marks history, and the contracts that pitchers of much more questionable standards have gotten, I have zero doubt that if Mark Buehrle were to become a free agent tomorrow, he would have a 5 year $75 million contract in his back pocket by Friday. Agreed. And given that JR has never shelled out that kind of money for a pitcher before, I'm not confident that he'll do it a year and a half from now.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 10:01 AM) As of right now, with that scenario, yes, he's worth the gamble. I love the fact that he's still among the Top 10 in IP with only 83 pitches per start. I don't disagree with you, but I think it's definitely something that KW has to consider. I'd be disappointed for sure, but would at least understand if he let Buehrle walk after the '07 season. That said, if I were KW, I'd trade Garcia this winter and try to get a five-year deal done with Mark.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 09:51 AM) Something tells me if we let Mark walk after 07, this board would literally explode. There will be a fire wherever the server is. I don't know about that. If he's completely healthy for the next two years, he'll have seven straight seasons of 220+ innings of wear and tear on his arm. Is it woth a $70-$85 million gamble that he'll be the next Tom Glavine?

QUOTE(Wedge @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 08:33 AM) I'd be glad if the Tigers or Indians got him. He's basically been living off his Cy Young season and he'll cost them an arm and a leg for not that great of production. For all the hype he gets as a great young pitcher, I definitely think Buehrle is better. Buehrle's definitely better, but I don't really want the Injuns to land Zito. Even if he's only their third- or fourth-best pitcher, they'll probalby win more games with him than without.

Just out of curiousity, don't pitchers who throw with more of an overhand motion, rather than 3/4, also put more stress on their shoulders? The reason I ask is that I tend to use more of an overhand motion in my intramural softball league (the ball doesn't sail on me as much). By the time we get to the playoffs and are playing 4 or 5 games per week, I usually have to drop down and throw sidearm because my shoulder is weak and aching.

QUOTE(Wedge @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 09:28 PM) I don't think the Mets are any better than the Astros or dare I say... the Cubs. Hot start, sure, but it's a long season. The East Coast media is really sucking them off right now. Quite a few of them predicted that they'd go to the WS. I give the Mets props for their great start, but I don't trust a rotation whose only decent pitchers are a past-his-prime Pedro and an aging Glavine. Doesn't Glavine turn 40 this year? Yikes!

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 08:32 AM) KW needs to shut his hole. Why in the f*** is he even talking this out in the media? Agreed. However, if Mark hadn't spoke about going to the Cardinals THREE TIMES in public, this would never have been an issue.

I'm still amazed that a team that won TWO World Series in its first 11 years of existence has such little support from not only the local and state governments, but the fans as well. I'm not sure if San Antonio would be a good long-term fit, but Miami sure as hell isn't.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 08:15 AM) 5 years $50 million? Mark would laugh at that contract, and justifiably so. When all is said and done, Mark Buehrle is looking at a deal in the $15 million/yr range, not $10mil. Chicago might be able to get him in the $13-14 range just for a home town discount There's no way that JR will sign Buehrle to a deal of 6 or 7 years at $15 mil per. Even 5 years at that rate is unlikely.

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 06:02 AM) Cubs fan: We have better pitching than you guys Wrong. Wrong again. LOL! If you don't mind the gross lack of parking and inch-deep urine in the bathrooms... You got me there! Enjoy your Attendance Trophy.

QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 09:33 AM) This is the worst radio tandem I have ever heard. It's a joke, and an embarassment that the World Champs get this. This is what happens when you lose a HOF play-by-play guy, put his former color partner into his slot, and fill the color slot with somebody who's completely inexperienced. Farmer's one of those guys you either love or hate. I didn't like the monotone voice and never-ending golf stories at first, but he really grew on me over the years. Agreed that he's a much better at color commentary than play-by-play, but I don't think that he's horrible at calling games either. After losing Rooney, I couldn't imagine losing Farmer as well. He's a Sox institution. Because Singleton is inexperienced, I don't believe is being given a fair shake here. He's not THAT bad. Like Brian Anderson's hitting, it's going to take some time for him to adjust and I think that he has the potential to do well. In fact, it's going to take some time for Singleton and Farmer to gel. I understand being pissed off at The Score for being cheap-asses with regard to Rooney, but I don't think that taking it out on the current crew is the answer.

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 12:11 AM) Tru, The haha is at the experts who said that some how the White Sox lost that deal. Ah to be an expert. I don't know what kind of "expert" would say that one of the best Cuban pitchers of his generation is inferior to somebody who has only had one really good year at the major-league level.

It's difficult to pick just one. In no particular order... Frank Robin Rowand Blackjack Fisk Haaaarold Ivan Calderon (loved the gold chains) Kittle Britt Burns

Are there distance estimates for the rooftop shots that Kittle and Luzinski hit at the old ballpark?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 01:08 PM) But the key problem is proof. If 5 people go to the police and say that you're using an illegal drug, but the police search your house, person, and all your possessions, and find nothing illegal, and you don't fail any drug tests, is that enough to charge you? Without the hard evidence I don't think they can, but perhaps i'm mistaken. Barry already admitted to using an illegal drug. But I agree that it may be difficult to prove in a court of law that he "knowingly" did it, although it would defy common sense to believe that he didn't.

So who do you fear the most? 3 headed monster....
WCSox replied to sox-r-us's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Indians. They're, by far, the most complete team of the three. They have good young hitters, their starting pitching is solid, and their bullpen is almost as good as MIN's. -
QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 12:10 PM) 1) I do not know the exact nature of the immunity agreement. Without seeing the actual document itself, I do not know what the prosecutor offered and what was not offered. It seems that Bonds was offered limited immunity, as perjury was not covered. At the grand jury, Bonds was told he would not be prosecuted for any crime he admitted, but he was warned that if he lied in his testimony he could be charged with perjury. Again, it's very difficult to believe that a pro athlete who is on such a strict diet that he has a personal chef didn't know what was taking. If this ever goes to trial, he'd better hope that a couple of jurors are that gullible... or that they buy into his portrayal of poor Barry being harassed by the racist, white government. Because Bonds DOES have a duty to follow our laws regarding illicit drugs. If my personal drug dealer... um, I mean personal trainer were to supply me with an ounce of "oregano" and the police were to tell me that it was pot, I couldn't claim ignorance to avoid prosecution. But one definitely could argue that Barry had a responsibility to follow our laws regarding the purchase/use of controlled substances. Ignorance is no excuse. Barry would have to be a complete idiot to NOT KNOW that he was taking some form of steroid, rather than flaxseed oil. I don't believe that he's that stupid. Bad comparison. Medicine is obtained by licensed pharmacists from FDA-regulated pharmaceutical companies. BALCO produced supplements, which are not regulated by the FDA. (They should be, but that's a different debate for a different time.) Victor Conte is nothing more than a white-collar drug dealer. Did these people also purchase/use steroids and commit perjury?
-
QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 11:39 AM) Bonds is not being charged with anything related to steriod use. Because he received immunity for his testimony against BALCO, correct? Seventy three home runs, association with a trainer convicted of steroid distribution, and admitting to using two steroid-containing products is a hell of a lot of evidence. If Bonds "had some inclination" that he was being lied to, he would've either had the products tested or chosen not to do business with Conte. That's a weak argument. If he "didn't want to know the answer," he knew exactly what he was taking. When did I ever justify cheating?
-
QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 10:44 AM) Now the real question here is, "Why does anyone care". Bonds cheated in a game? So f***ing what, I would say 9 out of 10 people on this board have cheated at something that was far worse than a baseball game. Never looked at some one elses test, or swiped a line from a book in a research paper? Those offenses aren't punishable outside of the academic institution. IIRC, perjury before a federal grand jury is a felony. The possession of anabolic steroids is also highly illegal. Bonds didn't just "cheat in a game." I agree that the government is on a fishing expedition and that the perjury case against Bonds is not strong from a legal standpoint. That said, anybody with more than two functioning brain cells could tell you that Barry knowingly took steroids. Any professional athlete who spends several hours per day working out and has his own personal trainer and cook would damn well know what was in "The Cream" and "The Clear" before taking them.
