QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ May 11, 2006 -> 07:17 AM) I don't believe there is such a thing, legally, as "accessory to leaking". If some government-related person gave the information to the reporter, and it didn't jeapordize anyone's safety, then I don't think they have to show any particular restraint. Whether or not safety was jeopardized, the reporter was still an accessory to the crime. Otherwise, Judith Miller never would've been jailed. Sorry, it was too freaking cool to resist.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 10, 2006 -> 01:06 PM) The Journalist didn't do the leaking. The journalist leaked the information to the public, which makes him/her an accessory. While I also disagree with what Judith Miller did, at least she had some (perceived) patriotic motive behind her actions. However, the journalists who leaked Bonds' testimony only did so to impress their bosses and to increase the bottom line for their employers. That's it. "Disgusting" indeed.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 10, 2006 -> 10:16 AM) There's something really disgusting about the fact that it seems thanks to our government's new crackdown on the evil of leaks, the people who wrote the most detailed exposition on Barry Bonds's illegal steriod use may very well face more jail time than Barry Bonds himself. But I guess...we do live in disgusting times. As much as I dislike Bonds, leaking classified information is illegal. Journalists aren't above the law.

I doubt that it'll be scrapped, regardless of whether or not they meet the deadline. The public backlash would be so tremendous that it would be counter-productive.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 10, 2006 -> 10:35 AM) I slipped a disc about 4 or 5 years ago during my competetive waterskiing days. It was very painful for a brief period of time. Now it will maybe act up once in awhile, but due to some stretches and strength exercises, im perfectly fine. One of my roomates back in grad school slipped a disc (too much running w/ tight hamstrings - apparently he wasn't stretching them enough) and he was in moderate pain for a good month or so at first and wasn't back to normal for about 3 months. But I don't recall him having hip pain like Count is experiencing.

Works for me. That was a freaking cool movie, BTW.

If his hitting continues to improve and Boras is still his agent after 2008, he'll be playing elsewhere. Thankfully, we have his rights for the next two seasons.
-
Any word on whether he's playing tonight?

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ May 8, 2006 -> 07:11 PM) I think the Sox winning it all last year was the final blow for them. Hmmm... who has the "inferiority complex" now?
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ May 8, 2006 -> 06:15 PM) THey might ignore him and be super cautious anyway though. That sounds like a good idea.

QUOTE(NYSox35 @ May 8, 2006 -> 03:23 PM) Orland Park isn't very shocking...although I hear there is a big Cub presence out that way, which is annoying. Well, there's a big Cub presence in all of Chicago's suburbs. Orland Park might have more Sox fans per capita than any other suburb, though.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 8, 2006 -> 03:17 PM) Grinder ball rule number 1908: While we parade, they protest. 1-0 Good guys.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 8, 2006 -> 02:15 PM) God, that has taken pathetic to a new level. Would this have been happening if this was last year? I love the sqeeze that the sox have put on the cubs fanbase. Even on Mike and Mike this morning they were talking about the sox gaining fanbse from the flubs. Awesome. Oh, but the Cubs fans don't care about that lowly team on the South Side. I'm sooooo glad that I chose to be a Sox fan 24 years ago.

QUOTE(UC76 @ May 8, 2006 -> 11:24 AM) I was in Seattle last week and attended all three games of the White Sox-Mariners series and was pleasantly surprised at how many Sox fans I saw. I don't know if that's normal or if that was bandwagon jumpers following the World Series, but either way, it was nice to see. I see NY and Boston transplants everywhere, so it wouldn't surprise me there were a lot of Chicago transplants in Seattle. People tend to not want to leave Washington and Oregon after they move there.

Really? I had no idea that Sox gear was even remotely popular in NYC. I would've thought that the Cubs and Cardinals had us beat by a mile. But you're right about the fashion value, though. Fewer teams have more stylish gear than the Sox. Out here, it's mostly Mariners apparel with the Giants, Dodgers, and (ironically enough) Padres coming in a distant 2-4.

QUOTE(YASNY @ May 8, 2006 -> 10:08 AM) I don't know about this. Politte and McCarthy have both proven they get major league hitters out. Nelson is working his way toward Chicago. I don't see this as a major area of concern. Looking at Politte's career numbers, I don't see him repeating last year's performance. An average season from Cliff is OK, but I don't feel comfortable with him being the go-to guy in the 8th. And with Hermanson's return still a huge question mark, I think that we could really use another option for the set-up role. Thornton and Logan can't be relied upon and Cotts and B-Mac already have other roles. Hell, I'm not sure that Nelson will even be back up to speed by the trade deadline. Agreed that it's not a MAJOR area of concern. It will be of little concern once the playoffs roll around, but we need to make sure that we get there first.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ May 8, 2006 -> 09:07 AM) I disagree. I think another solid righty in the pen for the 7th and 8th inning is needed. Agreed. We already have a reliable closer, but are in need of a good right-handed setup man. I don't trust Politte and would be surprised if Hermanson's ever going to be an effective pitcher again.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 6, 2006 -> 06:42 PM) Give me the traditional helmet the new ventilation ones look f***ing stupid. ^^^

QUOTE(YASNY @ May 7, 2006 -> 01:51 PM) Wow! Ozzie says Joe Crede will be a better 3B than Robin. That's saying a lot. He's better defensively, but he still has a way to go as a hitter to top Robin.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ May 6, 2006 -> 03:59 PM) Our 7-8-9 is pretty putrid -- Gload, Uribe, Anderson. Damn Ozzie and his stupid Sunday Lineups! Run-Elvys Hernandez appears to be pitching well this year. Could be another close one tonight.

QUOTE(GoTribe @ May 6, 2006 -> 03:26 PM) Seems like these damn Royals like to beat the Indians and White Sox. They may be that pesky team this year that may cause one team or another screw their shot at the playoffs. Let's hope each of our teams makes the playoffs and gets some credit to the AL Central. I agree. Classy post from a classy Tribe fan.

QUOTE(Dan @ May 6, 2006 -> 12:45 PM) KC will need a major overhaul and some roster changes i.e. pitching staff. they can do alright offensively and we've seen that. da Royals big problem is that their starters can't give them more than 6 or 7 IP. they eat up their bullpen. just my zero dollars and 2 cents. Oh, so they'll be a respectable team if they could only completely overhaul the pitching staff. No problem! Poor comparison. The Sox entered last season with three high-tier veteran starters (Buehrle, Contreras, and Freddy) and two other guys that are better than anything the Royals have on their staff. On the other hand, only one Royals starter had an ERA under 5.50 last season. Outside of Sweeney and a couple decent young players (Berroa, DeJesus), they blow.

QUOTE(Dan @ May 6, 2006 -> 12:30 PM) This post has been edited by the Soxtalk staff to remove objectionable material. Soxtalk encourages a free discussion between its members, but does not allow personal attacks, threats, graphic sexual material, nudity, or any other materials judged offensive by the Administrators and Moderators. Thank you. The fact that they're coming off of two 100+ loss seasons and that they're currently 7-20 doesn't support that statement. Do you have any evidence, or are you just going to throw out insults?

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 6, 2006 -> 07:36 AM) We all know your constant harp is the offense. Dye's hurting, so it's a given he wasn't going to play. Uribe and BA aren't exactly the biggest offensive threats right now. So I'm really not seeing how the "3 scrub lineup" comes into play in your argument last night. It doesn't. The fact that our two best hitters have had a combined ONE day off so far this season doesn't support his argument, either. And it's not like Mackowiak and Cintron are "lesser" hitters than BA and Uribe.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 5, 2006 -> 09:48 PM) so bobby blows every 10th save. Fine with me. ^^^ I only recall Bobby having one other bad outing (in Detroit) so far this year. Until he has more, he's still a reliable closer IMO.
