  1. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 25, 2013 -> 11:48 AM) Good to see somebody on this coaching staff embracing walks. Looking at the A's top prospects nearly all of them have a really high walk rate....I don't know if that's due to his preachings or who the A's are drafting.
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 25, 2013 -> 10:43 AM) Well if Sanchez is that talented, why are they going to give him and Lawrie up for Quintana? I kinda doubt that they do. They may be talking about said deal, but that's probably just the starting point. Not to "downgrade" bucket as a source but I'm curious if Rock is hearing some of the same chatter.
  3. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Oct 24, 2013 -> 06:19 PM) Buehrle of '01-'05 is better than Quintana ever can be. Yeah he didn't strike out many dudes but he could get you out on 4 different pitches and every fifth you were nearly guaranteed to get 6-7 innings. You guys are crazy if you think Quintana can be as good as Buehrle was. Buehrle hasn't had a season where he threw under 200 innings since 2000. (His rookie season where he started 3 games.) He has made 30 starts every year and 200 IP since. He is the epitome of durable and the anomaly of starting pitching. All he really has to do is become more efficient and thus go deeper into games which = more innings. Q had a 3.51 era. Buehrle has only been lower than that twice in his career. Q had a 1.22 Whip. Buehrle has only been lower than that 3 times. Hits per 9 of 8.5, Buerhle only best that mark once. 7.4 K/9 was never bested by Mark.
  4. Perhaps I can sell the potatoes to get the money for a doctor visit? It's whatever, move along.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 24, 2013 -> 03:48 PM) Do you remember HOW DEEP those Sox starters went? Managers don't have the balls to do that and even in 2005 there was situational lefty-righty crap going on all the time. Am I the only one who remembers how proud to be of a fan that played defense like our Sox did in 05? I didn't take it for granted at the time. World Series pitch counts Game 1- Contreras 86 pitches Game 2- Buehrle 100 Game 3- Garland 93 Game 4- Garcia 107 REVOLUTIONARY!
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 24, 2013 -> 02:37 PM) Seriously try an ear wax remover. Depending on the shape of the path of your ear canal, s*** can get stuck in there and block it up pretty good. It is a few bucks to try. I actually picked up a wax vac this morning with no luck...I'm sure the wax vac isn't near the "strength" of what a doctor would use, but I'm nearly positive it's some sort of damage vs wax/build up. You guys think the knee to the head that knocked me out is a plausible reason? Happened about a year ago, for much of the past year I was unemployed, and thus didn't have a cell phone or encountered anything that would have isolated the ear.
  7. I sure needed a laugh today, thanks greg, keep it coming.
  8. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Oct 24, 2013 -> 01:58 PM) If you ever post on WSI one of the mods over there has dealt with hearing problems and surgery to correct it. Never, I don't like to cheat on soxtalk. =p I'm gonna be needing health care soon enough anyway so I might as well just keep on keepin on until then...Like I said I haven't really even noticed it until I moved the furniture around and I've already fixed that problem. Thanks for the heads up though.
  9. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 24, 2013 -> 01:19 PM) I'd bet just about any amount of money that isn't true. Nobody is giving Granderson that kind of money. Edit: Also just noticed the tweet was from three days ago. No way that doesn't get some play from the usual sources if there's any truth to it. This Rizzo fellow is a bookie so he might take you up on that bet.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 24, 2013 -> 12:55 PM) This sounds like one you should consult your medical professional about. This is true, perhaps once I'm forced to get health care I'll get it checked out. Just posted it on the off chance that someone here would know something.
  11. Eh, I don't know Davey, that was reported 2 days ago and you'd think if it was VERY CLOSE like he said that it would be picked up by more "reliable" guys.
  12. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 24, 2013 -> 12:02 PM) How did you not realize that you couldn't hear out of your right ear in regular day to day situations? That's a fair question and one that I can't answer. I'm not one to talk on a phone(being left handed I suppose when I am on the phone I'm using my left hand when I am on the phone) and I don't have any sort of portable music device where I use headphones so I've never really been in a situation where my right ear was isolated.
  13. So I moved my bed and my tv around last night, so now I'm laying on my left ear when I lay down to watch TV and what I realized is that I'm deaf in my right ear. I literally have no clue how long I've been like this, I'm thinking it was from last rugby season when I got a knee to ear area that knocked me out. I've been fine just hearing out of my left ear but I was curious if there was anything other than a hearing aid that will fix it? Some sort of operation? Could there just be something that is detached or some s***? Or when it's gone it's just gone and only a hearing aid will do the trick? I'm 26 and I really don't wanna have to rock a hearing aid.
  14. An interesting question that I was pondering as I too had those first world problems shack had(couldn't sleep)..... If San Fran came along and offered the Sox Sandoval for Q and a much lesser prospect which would you guys rather do? Sandoval/lesser prospect or Lawrie and the 20th overall prospect? I'm kinda torn here. While Sandoval has been the better, more consistent hitter overall, Lawrie might have the higher upside but is much less of a sure thing. Does the potential of a potential front end of the rotation starter a year or 2 down the line push you to take the risk on Lawrie, or with this offense the way it is now make you disregard the high end prospect for the more sure thing offensively? What says you?
  15. QUOTE (Jake @ Oct 20, 2013 -> 06:50 PM) It's going to be pretty sweet if Derrick has somehow improved His jump shot/range in the preseason has looked much improved, and as others have said he somehow looks more explosive.....But maybe that's just because it's been a year and a half since I've seen him and don't exactly remember the extent to his awesomeness.
  16. What would be interesting to see is if they do acquire Lawrie could they possible move him to 2B, leaving the left handed Gillaspie in the lineup? I'm reading multiple reports saying Toronto might have plans to move him there so it's a possibility.
  17. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Oct 23, 2013 -> 06:38 PM) Some rumors are advantageous for one team in the slightest, some rumors are advantageous for one team completely. I don't understand your point, "you can say the same thing about any rumored deal" no s***? Does that need to be said? I am simply saying we would be fleecing Toronto in Quintana for Lawrie and Sanchez. My point is there's no reason to kill the fun =p. Like I said Lawrie/Sanchez could just be the starting point that they're talking about right now. Lawrie has some potential but for the past 2 years he hasn't been much better than Conor Gillaspie, and he's also been hurt the last 2 years. I wouldn't put too much stock in him right now. Quintana has enough of a track record that I don't think this deal is toooo crazy. Jake Peavy had a worse year last year, is 8 years older, and costs a s*** ton more and he got us Avisail Garcia who would have been a top 40 prospect if he was eligible. If Toronto believes he's a front of the rotation starter who's gonna be cheap as s*** for years to come I think something around the Lawrie/Sanchez deal is feasible, probably a little less but it would certainly get us Lawrie and another good piece or 2.
  18. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Oct 23, 2013 -> 05:17 PM) Does anyone really believe Toronto would do that deal? Just because Bucket posted it doesn't mean Toronto's interested it just means it was talked about. I can't believe how much trading for Lawrie has heated up though over the months. You can say the same thing with any rumored deal, no matter who it comes from....Toronto needs pitching bad and with all the money they took on last year they probably don't have the money to pay for it....Getting back Sanchez would be a bit of a surprise to me but that could just be the starting point...I'd take Lawrie and Aaron Loup+ instead if they don't wanna give up Sanchez.
  19. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 23, 2013 -> 03:35 PM) Like who? I can't think of any that would be realistic for Quintana. Pitching is way easier to find than hitting in the current offensive environment, I think you have to pick someone with a little of the shine worn off like Lawrie. If Q gets you Lawrie AND the 20th overall prospect in all of baseball you should be able to get a higher caliber player than Lawrie(sans the prospect of course)....But the question, like you said, is who's available?
  20. A Birmingham rotation of Sanchez-Bassit-Beck-Jaye-? sure would be a lot of fun to follow.
  21. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 23, 2013 -> 02:01 PM) What can you folks tell us about this Aaron Sanchez, other than the fact that he is a chef on the Food Network? Blue Jays top prospect and the 20th prospect in the whole league, big 6'4" RHP. Just 21 years old and he pitched a full season in A+ last year, probably starts the year in AA. Getting him AND Lawrie for Quintana would be incredible.
  22. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Oct 23, 2013 -> 01:07 PM) Kerley is safest, but the Detroit-Dallas game could be a shootout so Durham has big game potential in this one. Think I'm gonna go with Durham, it's boom or bust for me this week.
  23. I'm cool with trading Quintana if they can't get a surefire offensive contributor for Santiago. I really like EJ, and think he could become that #2 by 2015 which is probably when the Sox become a more serious contender.
  24. Sigh, so most of you remember the "awful" Cutler/Dalton combo I was rocking...Welll last week I dumped Dalton for Foles and of course we know that BOTH are now hurt so I put a waiver claim out on Dalton andddd I didn't get him. So now I gotta roll with Eli Manning In another league I've got 2 WRs on a bye week, so who ya got...Jeremy Kerley, Riley Cooper, Kris Durham, Marvin Jones, or Jerome Simpson.
  25. QUOTE (scs787 @ Oct 22, 2013 -> 07:24 PM) This. As we all know the key to a cover 2 is getting pressure from the front 4. When that doesn't happen the whole defense gets exposed. Oh man, you would get so much s*** for saying this over on talkbears. After I brought up that Webb was our best OLmen last year and the whole Bushrod is only a marginal upgrade over Webb article they put out those guys turned on PFF real quick. I for one believe in the work they do. I had the chance to "intern" with PFF so I know how much time they put into analysis. They had me do one player participation spread and it took me nearly 8 hours. Just for s***s and giggles I wanna throw these stats at them and watch their heads explode. What a surprise...
