  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 19, 2013 -> 10:38 PM) How many pitches did our starters throw in 05? You can't really compare the 2. Scherzer was under duress the last 2 innings. Sox staff for the most part breezed through those 05 playoffs. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 19, 2013 -> 10:40 PM) The Sox have interest in Victorino, your thoughts? To play CF? I don't wanna give up on Dayan just yet. If he can hang in CF I'm cool with him on a 1 or 2 year contract. EDIT- My streak of posting things that have already been said continues.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 19, 2013 -> 10:30 PM) Recipe for disaster, Detroit!! Too many relievers. It never works. You got to get more out of your starter(s). Leyland fell in the trap; too many relievers used tonight. Say what you want about Ozzie? Our one glorious postseason he went with the starters a LONNNNNNGGGGG time. Thank god he did or we wouldn't have a WS crown. Leyland a big goat. Scherzer threw 110 pitches.
  3. The Defensive wizard that is Jose Iglesias just booted a ball...he's human.....and it probably just cost them 4 runs.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 19, 2013 -> 10:10 PM) I just want to know one good reason Salty won't automatically re-up with the Red Sox? At this point everything is just fun speculation to "kill time" in the offseason. I agree he probably re-ups, but it's fun to speculate.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 19, 2013 -> 09:58 PM) As long as it's not David Eckstein! Lol Rick is actually his older brother.
  6. I'm gonna throw a name out there....Rick Eckstein. He was the Nats hitting coach when Dunn was there and put up his best back to back seasons. He was also the hitting coach for team USA back in 08 so I assume he's highly regarded. The Nats manager choked up when he got fired saying, "I've experienced a lot of things in my career -- I've been traded, I've been released, I've been sold, I've been fired. But today is arguably the toughest day I've had in baseball," said Johnson, his voice cracking with emotion. "I respect Rick Eckstein. I think he's a great coach, one of the best hitting instructors in baseball. And he's just a great gentleman. So it hurts.".
  7. QUOTE (hi8is @ Oct 19, 2013 -> 03:21 PM) I personally think Dunn will have his best year in a white sox uniform next year. Contract year and he's got a ton of work to do in repairing his rep. Stranger things have happened. In my ideal lineup, he's hitting no higher than 6th. The last line of your post doesn't go along with your first line. If he's hitting 40+, driving in 100+, and putting up an OPS of .800+ you want that in the 3-4-5 spot, low average and strikeouts be damned.
  8. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Oct 19, 2013 -> 06:10 PM) So, if Trevor Simien is NU's starting quarterback, bet big against them. Awful. Sigh, I remember posting a question about whether he'll be drafted next year. He was good against Ohio State but he's just been dreadful the last 2 weeks. I still wouldn't mind the Bears taking him in the 7th or as an UDFA.
  9. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Oct 19, 2013 -> 05:42 PM) No big deal. It's the one time ever where my alumni has a relevant player that could be drafted by the sox. Freshman year he probably stole 30+ bases. He had a foot injury this year that slowed him down. I could see him being a 20-30 SB player in the big leagues. He's been playing short stop and has a great arm. Not sure if he could project to CF. He's still pretty lanky and will fill out so maybe some more power potential? I would think his HR potential would be in the 20ish range. I'm a huge fan but maybe I'm drinking the koolaid since I watch a lot of the games. Just my two cents That 30+ number actually makes him sound slow compared to what he actually did lol. He was 57 of 61...in 63 games...That's remarkable. If he pans out we're probably looking at at least 40. His 2nd year, which like you said he was indeed dealing with a foot injury, he still stole 30 bags in 56 games which is nothing to scoff at. I also like the fact that he walked 41 times as a freshman and 38 times(in 7 less games) as a sophomore. You know teams didn't wanna walk him yet he still managed a large amount so that tells me he was a pretty good eye/approach up there. As far as not knowing if he can play CF, that's not an issue. His D at SS has been called plus-plus.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 19, 2013 -> 04:15 PM) Your entire argument for trading for a 32 year old who hit like Gordon Beckham and paying $25 million of his salary over the next 4 years while also giving up a very valuable player is his performance with RISP? And his club house presence, which I think this team is missing. Beckham hit .210 w/RISP compared to to .338 for Phillips. Like I said, I'm certainly not calling for it. It was brought up and I said I wouldn't hate it.
  11. Really wouldn't surprise me if there's no more "Major" pieces added through FA. McCann is the only major piece that makes sense. I wouldn't consider Salty major, and a guy like Dejesus certainly wouldn't be major. It's gonna be all about what they can get via trade....Beckham getting some interest is somewhat surprising. I'd be all for taking what we can get for him.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 19, 2013 -> 04:31 PM) Turner is 17 and in high school still right now right? So when he's 23 and at an age when guys would normally be pushing the big leagues...it'll be 2019 and we'll be gearing up for the primaries for the 2020 election? Turners gonna be a Sophomore at NC State. EDIT: Juniur, Mr. NC State who didn't have to look it up beat me lol
  13. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Oct 19, 2013 -> 04:09 PM) I don't think Xavier Nady, John Olerud or Jim Abbot played in the minors. You're kinda right, but Nady and Olerud had a combined 9 Abs their first years, and Nady was sent down the following year. Interestingly enough Nady was a 2nd rounder and Olerud was a 3rd. Abbot didn't spend anytime in the minors but I acknowledged that pitchers have done it. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Oct 19, 2013 -> 04:13 PM) As a NC State grad and avid follower of their team - I'd be ecstatic if we landed either Rodon or Turner. Turner would be quite the catch. Speed, live bat, power, you name it. I started out iffy on Turner because I wasn't sure about his power but enough reports have convinced me otherwise that he'll probably have above average power for a SS and he most certainly will stay there. Could you imagine the potential R-L combo of Trey Turner and Micah Johnson at the top of the order??? Yeesus.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 19, 2013 -> 03:35 PM) If He's owed $50 million and we're sending De Aza...the $$ in return better be about $50 million. I'd be fine with them paying half the salary. That's roughly 6M a year for a guy who hit over .330 w/RISP (included an unreal 11-18 with the bases loaded) and is a "Priceless clubhouse presence". I think he's worth about that. Trading them De Aza would also have to come on the coattails of another deal the Sox made to get a new CFer. Reds are asking Uggla and a top prospect, De Aza alone probably doesn't even match that. I'm certainly not gonna be the leader of the trade for Phillips fan club, I'm merely saying I wouldn't hate it.
  15. QUOTE (hi8is @ Oct 19, 2013 -> 02:32 PM) I was going to say rarely... Like, super freaking rarely. Only pick I can think of really is Sale. Mike Leake also comes to mind, but I don't think there's ever been a hitter to do so. The Sox don't really need a pitcher to come straight out of the draft, unless Rondon drops to us and they wanna use him as a LH bullpen arm.
  16. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Oct 19, 2013 -> 02:15 PM) Wow can't say I'm not impressed with sox right now. I just hope he doesn't take forever to pan out. With the3rd pick in the draft you should get a ml ready player and impact player. Just hope the sox don't blow it. Right out of the draft??? That doesn't happen. Even Bryce Harper spent 122 games in the minors before making the jump....Best case scenario would be at the midway point of 2015.
  17. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 19, 2013 -> 10:14 AM) Those talking about Phillips. Olney just retweeted something saying that the Braves want Phillips if the Reds take back Uggla and Braves would add a top prospect or 2. Can't get the tweet because I'm on my iPod. But there ya go. Here are the tweets David O'Brien ‏@ajcbraves 19 Oct Hearing #Braves would have interest in #Reds 2B Phillips if Cincy takes Uggla in deal. ATL probably have to include a top prospect. Buster Olney ‏@Buster_ESPN 19 Oct Like @ajcbraves, heard ATL wants to move Uggla. Uggla-Phillips deal would come down to dealing w/the $: Uggla owed $26m/2, Phillips $50m/4. I wouldn't hate Phillips, I think he could add a spark to the locker room, and I kinda think thats what this team needs. He does also add a "Clutch factor" as he's always been good with RISP. I wouldn't wanna give up one of Q/Santiago/EJ/Bassit/Beck for him though, if they can work out something otherwise I'd be fine with it. Something like for De Aza+ and we also get $$ in return. If it were to happen(which I doubt) I'd like to see Micah Johnson getting some reps at SS/CF in the minors, cause I think we'll be seeing that kid up and starting in 2015.
  18. QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 08:44 PM) I keep hearing people saying "now they need to work on their pitching" and I'm kinda baffled. The Sox had a playoff-caliber rotation last year but nobody seemed to notice because the offense was some of the worst seen on either side of Chicago in like 20 years. Ya, I had to school a buddy of mine yesterday who said that. He said they were probably close to the bottom of the league in quality starts, which is just not true. They were actually 5 QS away from 3rd most in the league, and that included 43 starts from Axelrod, Leesman, and a recovering John Danks. The first 2 probably won't see another start and Danks should be better in 2014.
  19. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 03:43 PM) Don't check facts. Present the information in a convincing fashion and make s*** up as you go. But, but, everyone will make fun of me I should just check the facts first instead of looking it up mid reply.
  20. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 03:21 PM) Toss Dunn out in left-field. There is also a chance to trade Dunn and eat salary if it means Konerko coming back. I really do not care either way but there is the White Sox loyalty. I'd rather play Abreu at 3B than put Dunn in LF, but to be clear, I don't wanna do either.
  21. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 03:07 PM) wite is a pro at that. Ha, I just take too much time checking the validity of what I'm saying....Looked up to see if Leury played 3B, and also looked to see if Kepp has played any SS the last few years, he hasn't.
  22. Leury(or Beckham if Semien is the starter at 2B) can play all 3 INF spots, and Danks can play all 3 OF spots. The Kepp/Gillaspie platoon would have to be blown up though, which everyone wants anyway. EDIT: man lately everything I've been saying already gets said while I'm in the process of posting.
  23. I certainly wouldn't hate a Dunn/Konerko platoon, it makes a lot of sense.
