  1. QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 27, 2013 -> 06:45 PM) 6th and 7th rounders far more intriguing than your typical late round draft picks this year. As are the UDFAs. Mark Harrison is a guy I really like. He was working out with Marshall and the gang over at fit speed and his measurables rank up there with some of the best in this draft class. Good height at 6'3", 12th fastest 40, 4th highest vertical, 2nd longest arms, tied for 18th with our own Marquess Wilson in the shuttle, 6th in bench reps and 5th longest broad jump. I'm hoping Marshall passed along some intel to Phil and the gang and that he takes him under his wing. --- Tunde Bakare, an undersized (5'11")LB out of Kansas, ran a 4.35. Looked pretty good on tape. PJ Lonegran was a 3 year starting OC at LSU and he was the 6th ranked center in the draft. Brent Russell, a DT, was "The tallest midget" so to speak as he took home a ton of FCS hardware. Josh Lenz, a WR out of Iowa State (don't we have some Cyclone fans on board?) looks like an intriguing prospect as well. Now before I get jumped on, I know there's a reason these guys all went undrafted and I can't expect much.. but I wouldn't be surprised to see 1 or 2 (Harrison and Lonegran are the guys I'm predicting) make the team.
  2. QUOTE (SexiAlexei @ Apr 26, 2013 -> 12:04 AM) I'm not arguing Long vs Eifert. I'm arguing Long vs every other position of need. There were highly rated DTs, LBs, and CBs on the board. All positions of need. If they thought Long was the best of the bunch, then ok. Again, I disagree, but they have a valid reason. If they said the next guy after Long wasn't good, but other DTs, LBs, and CBs are better than Long, you take the better player that fills your need. You can't worry about who will or who won't be there next round, because it's a crap shoot, and you don't know. You take the best player that fills a need. I will say that I did want Floyd but when I looked at it further if they wanted to upgrade OG then 20 was the place to do it. You're not gonna find an upgrade later IMO. DT and CB are both pretty deep this year, and I think with Williams and Anderson the Bears can grab a LB later, groom him for the year and start him next year.
  3. QUOTE (SexiAlexei @ Apr 25, 2013 -> 11:35 PM) My response had nothing to do with who the Bears had as their best player on the board. My comment was in response to 2nd city, you don't draft a player because the next player at the same position is so much worse. That's also why i said "If that was the Bears thought process, I'd be even more disappointed." What I'm trying to say is, you can't look at the board and say "Well, we'd much rather take Ogletree or Eifert over Long, but after Long, there aren't any OG left." Now, if the Bears legit thought Long was better, then I disagree, but I'm ok with it. If their pick was, as 2nd city said, out of fear, then I strongly disagree with the choice. My point is if the Bears value the OG position like the Saints did (Kromer was their OL coach) and they are left with really nothing there then wouldn't it become a pretty high priority?
  4. QUOTE (SexiAlexei @ Apr 25, 2013 -> 11:08 PM) If this was the Bears thought process for their pick, I will be even more disappointed. You have so many holes to fill (OL, LB, CB). You don't draft a G because the next possible G is so much worse... You draft the best player, and worry about who's left in the next round. I think then you're ultimately still left with a hole at OG and if Kromer sticks to his whole inside out scheme on the OL you really need a good OG tandem. Supply and demand...or something like that.
  5. Had some time to think on the way home and I feel a little better about the Bears pick. Perhaps I'm forcing myself to but I did come up with some logic behind it. The way I'm taking it is the Bears didn't think as highly on Gabe Carimi as I thought they did, or as I do. I also remembered the whole Kromer works the line from the inside out so he needs a good OG tandem. That said if you look at who is left after Long at OG the list pretty much only goes 1 deep with Warford with Dallas Thomas as an honorable mention. Those guys very easily could be gone at #50 and then we're left with some guy named Matt Summers-Gavin as NFL.coms top rated OG.
  6. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 24, 2013 -> 04:20 PM) Yay, we have a .400 winning percentage. Yet only 3.5 games out of first...My god people, it's been 20 games! Sit back, relax, and strap it down folks. The Sox never seem to have a good start to the season.
  7. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 24, 2013 -> 02:52 PM) Honestly i think if the Bears draft a LB that is better than Williams or Anderson right off the bat, he will play over them immediately. Perhaps, but Williams and Anderson both look like pretty good LBs...At least going off of their # of tackles they put up. Not sure how they are in coverage which is probably a key if they stick with the cover 2.
  8. QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 24, 2013 -> 01:54 PM) This is supposed to be a deep draft for WR and most drafts are. You can always find that "extra element" type of WR in later rounds. We are not in bad shape when healthy at this point. Hell, I'd rather find a way to get Eifert (seems like he may not fall that far now) at that spot than a WR. I don't love anyone that is likely to be around at 20, but I will be pretty damn disappointed if it is a WR. A LB makes perhaps the most sense. We can't draft guys who will sit on the bench and develop like Shea for two years in a row, so I'm not fond of grabbing a CB either. You kinda contradicted yourself there depending on how you view DJ Williams and James Anderson. I think a CB would see the field much more in nickle situations, whereas a LB will probably only see time if there is an injury (or suspension). Like I stated earlier in this thread I am on board with the Eifert idea though.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 23, 2013 -> 10:43 AM) At this point...no. That's the one thing he's not doing. His first games back will not be a 4 game stretch against the Heat. If he wants to then why not? He's been dominating 5 on 5 for what, 2 months now? A part of me hopes that's the plan. Throw him out there as a surprise for the Heat and screw up their game plan. The other part of me feels like that's a silly plan, but is there really anything to lose??
  10. QUOTE (Boogua @ Apr 18, 2013 -> 02:22 PM) So this is a jumbo set we're talking about here? 2 TE, FB, HB, 1 WR? How often do you actually think we would call plays out of that formation. Why bench a big WR like Alshon for another TE? I mean, sure, theoretically it gives us more flexibility, but I just don't see us utilizing it all that much. I feel like the pick could be better used elsewhere. No this would be the before mentioned Ace formation. Forte out of the backfield, Marshall and Jeffery lined up on the outside, and M. Bennett and let's just say Tyler Eifert lined up in the slot on both sides. No FB in this formation, I just brought up Rodriguez as the FB for different formations. Work him as a run blocker and periodically throw to him out of the same formation to keep defenses guessing.
  11. The main point is forcing LBs onto both big TEs. Rodriguez can be covered by a CB or a S. Can the same be said about a guy like Tyler Eifert who is 6'6" with solid leaping ability? Most teams nickles tend to be "undersized", lets use the Packers for example. Casey Hayword is 5'11", would he be able to cover a guy who is 7 inches taller than him? That to me would create a big mismatch over using the 6'1" Evan Rodriguez. If Trestman runs the same kind of offense he had in San Fran years ago I wouldn't be too angry to see Evan used as the FB. I know a lot of people frown upon this because they hate to see their 4th round pick relegated to the FB position, but if you look at what the FBs did in SF while Trestman was there I don't think it would be such a bad thing. In the 2 years Marc was there the FBs caught 112 passes for 802 yards.
  12. I posted in the NFL thread about how the Bears have "interest" in a TE and that I would love for them to do so. Well here's my reasoning behind it (Copied and pasted from my post on talkbears so it may seem a little out of sync)... The thing I like about drafting a BIG TE (emphasis on the big) to play over ERod is the mismatch it could/would create. Rodriguez, according to this scouting report I'm looking at, is only 6'1" so he doesn't really force other teams defenses to put a LB on him. If you put Bennett out there with an Eifert (6'6"), Ertz (6'5"), Escobar (6'6"), Toiolo (6'8"), or Fauria (6'8"), opposing defenses would be forced to drop 2 LBs into coverage to D up on those 2 guys. If they don't then the big TE's can give corners or safeties a headache with their size. When a defense is forced to put 2 LBs into coverage AND have to worry about Forte coming out of backfield to catch the ball it creates all sorts of mismatches. I think the ace package that lines up Forte in the backfield and lines up Marshall, Jeffery, Bennett, and another big 6'5"+ TE would cause all sorts of headaches for defenses to defend. It's possible that the other team would have to use all 3 of their LBs in coverage, one on Bennett, one on the new big TE, and one on Forte. LBs are the guys who gave the Bears OL the most problems in pass blocking last year, so if they can eliminate that problem by forcing LBs into coverage then you can keep Cutler from "running like hell". That's my reasoning behind why I think drafting a big TE wouldn't be a "waste" and why I think the Bears are still looking at TEs in the draft. Thoughts? (I mentioned Toiolo and Fauria because I like them in the later rounds)
  13. Still though, am I the only one who would be intrigued (or even ok) with such a pick? Certainly not at 20 as that's a bit of a reach but if they can manage to trade down and get him I would be absolutely thrilled with the potential identity as a big physical passing team.
  14. Bears are said to have interest in Zach Ertz. Am I the only one (obviously besides the FO) that is thoroughly intrigued by the dynamic of potentially having Marshall, M. Bennett, Jeffery, and Zach Ertz all lined up on the field at the same time? Thats gotta be tough to defend. Defenses would pretty much have to put LBs on Bennett and Ertz which would mean less of a pass rush coming at Jay. Ertz at 20 is a stretch though, maybe they are looking at him should they be able to trade down.
  15. Ok, so once again, battling ropes. They're typically 2" in diameter polypropylene or manilla ropes and they don't go for cheap. My question to you guys is, I can still get some of the same benefits from a 12 dollar 1/2" polypropylene rope correct? At least 12 dollars worth of benefits right? lol
  16. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 8, 2013 -> 08:16 AM) I thought as a show, Mania was fine. Too bad we always remember what happens last. I thought it was one of the worst in recent memories to be honest. The Punk/Taker match is the only one that really stood out. I had the Bulls game going on my TV and Mania on my computer (shhh) and often times I found myself watching the muted Bulls game due to not really being entertained by any of the matches.
  17. Serious, possibly stupid, question. How hard do NBA teams go in 5 on 5 practice? Derrick seems to have been participating in 5 on 5 for over a month now, probably against some pretty good defenders. Is it possible Thibs is just getting him ready "Under the radar" of other NBA teams? That all probably sounds "f***ing ridiculous" but it's just a thought.
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 2, 2013 -> 11:38 AM) What security company are you working for Advanced Security Solutions.
  19. Instead of making a new Jobs thread I'll go ahead and hijack my own thread.... The 711 security job was only temporary and has already ended. My boss told me Sunday that he would call me yesterday about a new location, I received no such call. I've been a pest (about my hours) ever since being hired and I'd hate to continue being such by calling him despite him being pretty adamant about him calling me. Should I forget about that and call him anyway? During orientation I overheard a conversation about them hiring too many people and having to have people wait to work so I'm thinking I may fall into this category. Would sending a text be unprofessional? He's texted me once before.
  20. QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 1, 2013 -> 07:26 PM) I'll say it as I always do, he's wonderful and he might not be the best if anyone else would do it the way he does. Most broadcasters tend to go with the "if I speak with little enough inflection, they might not even hear me" method with a little bit of "let's pretend I'm not on a local station" As I always do on this subject, I agree with you. I absolutely love Hawk and don't understand the hate for him. His enthusiasm fires me up and makes the game that much better to me. I also appreciate his old school stories, even if I've hear them multiple times.
  21. QUOTE (Boogua @ Mar 30, 2013 -> 10:51 AM) A very good point. How amazing would it be if someone like Warmack fell to the Bears (think how decastro fell last year) and we took him? Our OL would be upgraded at every spot outside of center. Hell, why not add a center in the 5th or 6th? A guy like Braxton Cave or Joe Madsen could end up being an upgrade over Garza who some have called the worst OC in football the last 2 years. Bushrod-Slausson-Cave-Warmack-Webb/Carimi/Scott. Use your 2nd and 4th on an LB and corner then your other 5th or 6th on a WR or DT.
  22. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 29, 2013 -> 05:58 PM) I feel I'm generous in saying it was a wash. Upside wise Louis had a shot to take more steps forward, albeit, you just never know due to the injury (which is why I'm ultimately concluding it as a wash). What makes you say that? They're the same age and Slausson was drafted higher than Louis.
  23. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 29, 2013 -> 02:53 PM) The oline is still bad. Tackle position is upgraded. Guard position is not upgraded. I hope one of the top guards is there in round 1. Depends on the clubs thoughts on Carimi at RG, or maybe even their thoughts on Brown at RG. I'd really like to see them add an OC in the draft and then let Garza/Carimi/Brown all compete for RG while having Webb/Scott/Carimi compete for RT. I doubt Warmack or Cooper are there but if they still feel the need to address RG then DJ Fluker who has a chance to be there would be an interesting choice. Fluker and Carimi on the right side could do wonders for the run game.
