Do we really have to be sellers?
2nd_city_saint787 replied to sin city sox fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Looks like we got ourselves a new member to the optimists club. -
QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 01:32 PM) I think we are way, way overvaluing Chris in this thread. He's not Jesus Christ Dan Haren, who is older, had less time on his contract, and was probably being paid more got the #12 prospect in all of baseball, Tyler Skaggs, and another promising LHP in Patrick Corbin. Also in that deal was Joe Saunders, who was a competent ML back of the rotation starter I'd expect more than that for Sale.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 04:31 PM) if you do it, you send the message that you are rebuilding for the long term, and not the short term, and you have to live with those consequences as a White Sox organization that is still marred by the history of White Flag. Why would it signal a long term rebuild?? If they get back 2 sure fire MLB ready studs (and then some) they still have Peavy-Danks-Q-Santiago-Johnson/Axe lined up for next year along with 2+ more pieces to the offense.
-
For the right deal I'd do it, and the right deal has to be ridiculous. Of the teams mentioned conversations would have to start with... Rangers- Profar and Olt+ Boston- Bogaerts and Bradley+ Arizona- Davidson, Owings, and Holberg+ St. Louis- Taveras and Wong+ I also don't think any of those deals would be "rebuild" moves

Bryce Brentz please. Probably a lot more realistic than Bradley. He's got big time power and can take over for Rios if he's traded.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 02:05 PM) For right now the Sox absolutely ought to be asking for major league ready guys. Whether that's the case at the end of July is a different question. Exactly. With the pitching staff they have already intact they should absolutely try and contend next year. Thus looking for MLB ready/near MLB ready prospects should absolutely be what they are looking for. There is nothing more frustrating than seeing this offense waste great pitching performances, getting prospects that are 2 or 3 years away will only continue this.

Hmmm, I wonder if the Bulls FO scouted the 2011 Portsmouth Invitational Tourney. The All PIT team that year was Jimmy Butler, Malcolm Thomas, Matthew Bryan-Amaning, Andrew Goudelock, and Vernon Macklin....Thomas, Bryan-Amaning, and Goudelock are all on the Bulls Summer League roster. This for whatever reason amused me. Perhaps because I found that out myself. Goudelock is the most intriguing player of the bunch. He was the D-League MVP and has redirkulous range. Last year I had a man crush on Henry Sims and wanted him to make the roster, this year I'm pulling for Goudelock. I feel he can potentially play the Nate Robinson role off the bench. -
I'd absolutely think about trading one of Q or Santiago if it means getting an mlb ready prospect. Especially if the Sox can't get the type of return they're looking for in a Peavy trade. The excess depth at SP needs to turn into a starting position player.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 03:14 PM) There is some chance you could get similar production for similar money in FA. This means you could get Rios-like production AND prospects for $13 million instead of just Rios. This comment got brushed under the rug....This is exactly why you trade Rios.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 04:00 PM) Just PM a mod and they'll knock it out. What's the new name? For whatever reason the length of my name was annoying me so I just shortened it to scs787, which I use on talkbears(which is just awful at times). -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 03:10 PM) Ever the optimist. Always...While the mods change my name (I have a request in) perhaps they can also change my little tagline to "Ever the optimist". I just really think Cutler is set up to succeed. I think they've done enough with the OL to keep Jay upright A LOT more often. The addition of a competent TE, who I believe will be even better here than he was in NY, will be huge. Plus I really do love the Trestman hiring, if for no other reason than the fact that he loves to throw the RB the ball (if the past is any indication) and Matt Forte is one of the best receiving RBs in the league. Getting Forte out in space more often should be a huge plus for the offense. -

Where did Jaws end up having Cutler ranked? I think he's set up for a big year. -

I'd like to shorten my name to simply scs787. For whatever reason I just don't like the look of it anymore. -

What's the latest on Luis Castillo?? I recall some people calling him a top 15 prospect last year when we signed him....Is he competing somewhere? I believe I was one of those people calling Castillo a top 15 prospect so I would no doubt have the more hyped (Z is the #2 international prospect this year, Castillo didn't bust the top 20). I voted for 5-10. -
Has Ptact ever touched on his illness? Is there potential for it to creep back up on him?

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 8, 2013 -> 04:15 PM) I can't believe they would be willing to let Freese go. Carpenter also hasn't rated as a good 3B while his UZR at 2B this year has been excellent. I'll settle for Matt Adams though as there is just no place for him on their team without injuries. How much longer can Beltran play? Is Tavares a power hitter? Meaning can they survive with Jon Jay and Tavares in the OF? If I were the Cards I'd keep Adams and move Craig to the OF when Beltran retires. Holliday-Tavares-Craig with Adams at first looks a lot better than Holliday-Jay-Tavares with Craig at first.

Bulls said to have interest in Wayne Ellington. Looks as though we might see the rookie playing time tradition continue. I wouldn't mind Ellington at all, he's shown to be a pretty good 3 point shooter over most of his career and college. I can live with a lineup of... Rose/Hinrich/Teague Butler/Ellington/Snell Deng/Dunleavy/Snell Boozer/Taj/Thomas or Murphy Noah/Naz/Taj -
Mike Goldberg mentioned that Dana White had huge GSP news to announce today. Yet there was no such news. Did I perhaps hear him wrong and he didn't say "today" or do you guys think the announcement was GSP vs Silva and Silva wrecked those plans?

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 6, 2013 -> 12:42 PM) Jo's offense got leaps and bounds better last year. It isn't good, but he's able to make very simple moves around the basket as well as put the ball on the floor if he needs to. It resulted in him taking a few more shots than he should have, but last year was a weird one without Derrick. I guess I was just expecting more out of him. His shooting % was the worst of his career last year.. All the talk of Kareem saying Jo would be "A monster" if he worked with him got hopes a little too high I guess. I went back and looked on the talkbulls thread about him working with KAJ and you hit the nail on the head with your comment IMO. -

Noah to work out with The Dream this summer. Jo showed some glimpses of the work he put in with KAJ, but overall I wasn't overly impressed with his offensive game (Why I'd be down to trade him for LMA). Hopefully another HoFer will improve his offense even more. Let the summer of Jo bringing back the dream shake begin. -
Batting close to .300 in his last 30 games! I wonder if he's ever had a month this good in his career?

White Sox v. Orioles

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 4, 2013 -> 03:01 PM) I'd love to see some stat head find out how many K's Dunn has had through his last 35 games or so and compare it to any other 35 game stretch. He's making so much more contact now than I've ever seen him make before in a Sox uniform. I'll give you 30 games.... Dunns last 30 he's Kd 27 times. His previous 30 he Kd 42 times. He had a streak of 10 games where he struck out 20 times. Dunn didn't strike out at all in 11 of his last 30 games, the previous 30 he only managed 4 such games. I love this Adum Dunn. -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 4, 2013 -> 11:54 AM) So you want Aldridge to play center? Thibs would kill someone. Wes Matthews is awesome, so is LMA, but man, our bigs would suck. I honestly don't know much about LMA defensively other than he won the big 12 DPOY in college so I assumed he had some defensive skills. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jul 4, 2013 -> 12:00 PM) They wouldn't be under the cap, they'd be under the luxury tax. That means vet minimum only since they used their MLE on Dunleavy. Just redid the calculations and if hoopsworlds numbers are correct they would just barely be under the cap @ 57.9, the cap is 58.5. If they had any faith in Teague, they could try to move Hinrich to free up close to 5M for a big. -
Will the Sox Eat Salary to Bring More Talent
2nd_city_saint787 replied to CaliSoxFanViaSWside's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 4, 2013 -> 11:51 AM) I agree. We would get next to nothing if we traded him this year. Not to mention, would likely have to eat most of his contract. The only thing we can hope for is if he gets off to a similar start next year as he did in 2012 before he started tanking again. Or we can hope that he continues to be a .270 hitter with a .900+ OPS for the next month leading up to the trade deadline. 2 months of playing at this level isn't a small sample size and it should be enough to show another team that he can help their ball club. Like it or not Dunn has been one of the best players in baseball the last month.
