QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jul 4, 2013 -> 11:16 AM) No, you can't have the tax-payer MLE and the regular MLE. That's basically what happened last year, they originally offered Hinrich the mini and gave him the full after Asik left. Thanks. I don't know how far under they would be after those moves but I think they would be far enough under to offer Timofey Mosgov a contract. He's a guy I really wanna see what Thibs can do with. I think he still has loads of potential but has never been in the right situation. Taj and LMA would get the starters minutes with Mosgov being the primary big off the bench.

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jul 4, 2013 -> 10:41 AM) You're losing a lot of the advantage to adding Aldridge if Noah goes in the deal. Then you're still stuck with Boozer or hoping you can get enough from Mirotic/Gibson at the power forward spot. It's not exactly easy to find a D and rebounding center on a budget. I'd rather have Aldridge, but the gap isn't nearly big enough to make a huge difference. Then when you talk about adding Butler too, that's too much. We're not talking about prime KG with this deal. The other issue is I don't see why they'd want Deng since they already have Batum on the roster. It'd be one thing if the Bulls are sending a bunch of young guys and picks and just need Deng to match salaries, but that's not the case in most deals I've seen. I asked this earlier in the thread and got no answer. If the Bulls got under the cap, the Deng/Noah for LMA/Matthews trade and amnesty of Boozer would do it, could the Bulls then use their full MLE to sign a big? Or since they already used they mini MLE on Dunleavy can they no longer use it? I'd love to see what Thibs could do with Timofey Mosgov. Portland fans are suggesting that they would play Batum at the sg position. (Don't shoot the messenger, I know Batum is 6'8" and probably shouldn't be considered a SG)

A portland message board suggests Deng/Noah for LMA/Wes Matthews....I might be the only one but I would do that all day and twice on the 4th of July. They lose a little bit on D but neither Wes nor LMA are slouches defensively. What they gain on offense though has the potential to put them over the top. Matthews is a much better 3 point shooter than Deng (40% vs 32%, Wes had the higher volume as well) and we all know LMA is a better offensive player than Jo. Not sure how Boozer and LMA would pair up though. Hypothetically they can amnesty Boozer, get below the cap, sign another big to go along with Taj, LMA, and Naz. Just rambling about something that will never happen.

Bulls to waive Rip If the bulls were to amnesty Boozer they would be under the cap. Since the Bulls already used the mini MLE can they still use the regular 5M MLE if they get under the cap? That is of course assuming there is someone out there in FA that would be worth dumping Boozer for.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 01:55 AM) I'm telling you, Crain is not going to bring much at all. He's in his last year of a contract and yes, he does get hurt, and he's aging. What is everybody realistically expecting? I'd say one average prospect and cash. Kudos to Dunn for that month just completed. He does deserve credit. But any team trading for him also is getting Mr. Whiff. Dunn suddenly is not going to be great.A team should not risk much for him. For comparisons sake Mark Reynolds, who the year before being traded never had a month like Adam is having right now, got a return of 2 major league relievers. Now I know Reynolds wasn't making the money Dunn is but if I'm a team like the Yankees I would certainly take on that contract. This past month has been great for Adam, I think he could really help a team out. I think you underestimate the value of good relief pitching. Every year a reliever gets dealt for a good return. Mike Adams a few years ago got the Padres Joe Wieland who at the time had an era under 2 in 20 starts split between A+/AA and Robbie Erlin who was also a damn good starter between A-AA to the tune of a 2.50 era, a whip below 1 and 279 ks in his last 261 innings. Both players have made starts in the big leagues since.

Has Thibs ever publicly said anything about not wanting to play rookies or has it just been coincidental these last few years that those guys didn't get a lot of playing time? I really wanna see Snell take on the Ronnie Brewer role. They seem like very similar players. I'd also really love to see Murphy push Nazr for some playing time (with Taj manning the 5 spot). Having Rose on the court with Dunleavy, Murphy, and Snell all standing around the 3 point line could be a pretty good lineup. Assuming of course that Snell and Murphys 3 point game can convert to the NBA.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 09:04 PM) Not to be a smart aleck, but this is Adam Dunn we're talking about. Why pitch around him in any circumstance despite his nice total of bombs? Don't want this topic to get lost in the game thread so I'll move it over here. Perhaps because Adam Dunn is one of the best hitters in baseball this past month. I'm sure it's been pointed out over and over again by other posters but I haven't seen them so I'll reiterate. Adam Dunn over the last month is batting .274, .402 obp, an ops near of .991, with 10 bombs and 24 driven in. Those 10 hrs and 24 rbis are good for 3rd in the majors in both categories. Ya, those stats blew my mind too. If I were the Yankees I'd be asking about him. They aren't going to win anything with Kronk and Lyle Overbay as their 1b/DH combo. Both those guys are gone next year and you know they have the money to pay him.

Meh, it depends what they do with Sting leading up to Mania. I don't really wanna see him bury younger talent or take up a ton of TV time week in and week out. I also don't expect much in terms of match quality but growing up these 2 were my favorites so from a sentimental stand point I'll take it. If they work this whole Sting came to do 1 thing and that was to take down the Undertaker at wrestlemania angle, and that's literally the only thing he does then I'm cool with it. I don't watch TNA so I don't really know how good Sting is in the ring these days so maybe my opinion changes if I see that Sting can "still go". He still wrestles somewhat regularly there right?

Former Cuse sharpshooter, and last years D-League 3 point champ, Andy Rautine in Bulls camp. Could be someone to keep an eye on. Rose/Hinrich/Teague Butler/Rautine Deng/Snell Boozer/Taj/Murphy Noah/Mini MLE/trade exception Something like that could work. Luke Harongody is in camp as well but I dont see a spot for him.

Keppinger to Yanks?
Right now all he is is a potential bullpen arm for them. They have given up on him as a starter. For Keppinger may be a little unrealistic but he's no longer a guy you'd have to give up a big piece for IMO.
-
Keppinger to Yanks?
Think the Yanks would give up on Betances? He was once nearly untouchable but his stock has fallen quite a bit. I know pitching isn't the need here but I'd love to pick him up. Sox are better at developing pitching than the Yanks. See Jose Quintana. He's working out of the bullpen now but I can see him turning it around and becoming a starter. If not he can join Jones and Webb as our future RH relievers.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 02:13 PM) When does that exemption expire? July 16th, and it's worth 5 mill. Can Thomas Robinson at 6'10" be relied on to play the 5 if Jo goes down? Do we trust a shorter Taj to man the 5? I would love to see what Thibs can get out of him.

NBA Thread 2013-2014
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 01:44 PM) He could certainly find a way to earn himself minutes at center, but with Noah's injury history I can't imagine him filling the role in a permanent fashion. The Bulls still have the mini-MLE to use and 2 roster spots to fill, finding an actual backup C for about $3 million and then some minimum-salary guy (like Nate was last year) seems like a good use of that money. Don't forget the trade exception. Problem is finding a partner willing to trade a big for nothing. Thomas Robinson makes sense if he or Taj were a little bigger. Not sure either can man the 5 if Noah goes down.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 12:57 PM) VladRad didn't do that for you? I was a fan of the signing, just couldn't get him any playing time. At 6'10" can he be the backup center? The scouting reports I've seen say he has underrated post defense but quicker players can give him problems. That sounds like he should be on centers as they are typically slower than power forwards.

The power in my neighborhood doesn't like major sporting events. In less than a week it goes out during the hawks game and yesterday it went out 2 picks before the Bulls....I personally would have liked Crabbe over Snell if they wanted to go with a wing player. I can get behind the Snell pick though, Thibs should have fun with him. A small lineup with Rose-Butler-Snell-Deng-Noah should be long and athletic as s***, if Snell actually plays this year. I'm intrigued by the Erik Murphy pick much more than the Snell pick. I've wanted a stretch 4 for a few years now and it seems as though he's just that. I would hope he gets to play some this year but if the past is any indication then he and Snell might not.

Micah Johnson: Wheels...And what else?
I brought this article up in the 6/26 thread and feel like it could use its own thread. Mods if this should be in his AAP thread then feel free to move it there. Overall it's a pretty good look at a player I view as the most exciting player in our system ATM. The author of it has said to have seen Kanny 15 times this season so he should be able to give us a better inside look at Micah. Here is the quote i was referring to in the other thread about the infield in Kanny.... I conveniently forgot the 2nd part of the sentence, so there's that. Perhaps he's "used to" the bad hops and is taking that anticipation with him on road games. The bad hops could also be the reason why Anderson is having trouble with errors. Feel free to touch on other parts of the article in here.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 26, 2013 -> 07:28 PM) Two Errors for Anderson I read in a fangraphs(I believe) article about Micah Johnson that the infield in Kanny is one of the worst at any level. Can anyone else touch on this? Has there been a middle infielder that has seemingly sucked in Kanny that has seemingly gotten better at the next level?

If the trade exception cant be included with another piece like another poster suggested then I'm not sure how the Bulls could possibly improve their offer.

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jun 27, 2013 -> 12:09 AM) Besides my usual "stop thinking the Bulls could sign max free agents" answer, Love isn't even a free agent next year. Doesn't he have an opt out clause in his contract for next year?

2012-2013 NBA thread
Time to put on the GM hat. Am I the only one here that would trade Noah for Aldridge? You lose a little bit on defense, LMA isn't terrible defensively and working with Thibs could make him even better, but the offensive upside is makes up for that in a big way IMO. Then trade Deng for a top 5 pick to take either McLemore, Porter, Oladipo, or Bennett. Rose-McLemore-Butler-Boozer-Aldridge has the potential to be dynamite offensively. Defensively Thibs would have his work cut out for him, but Thibs being Thibs I think he can get the team to play good enough D to be a VERY dangerous team. Or perhaps they can amnesty Boozer to beef up the defense with Taj getting the starting PF position. Would Kevin Love be possible next year in this scenario (Boozer amnestied)? Good lord could you imagine Rose-Mclemore-Butler-Love-Aldridge?? How would you stop that team?!

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 26, 2013 -> 03:51 PM) So the Bulls lose both their pick this year, the Bobcats pick, and Deng, and don't wind up with any improvement in their cap situation out of it? Both their picks this year? I only have them losing 1 pick this year. Plus in this scenario they don't lose their trade exception so they can potentially use that on another piece. In this weak draft I don't mind giving up the 20th pick, and I agree with zoom on the Bobcats pick, it could take awhile for that to turn into anything. I also agree with J4L that a Aldridge/Noah duo would be sick.

2012-2013 NBA thread
Though rather complex wouldn't something like this work out? Portland gets #1,#20, and the bobcats pick Cleveland gets T Robinson and Deng Houston gets rid of the cap space like they are looking to do Bulls get Aldridge
-

Perhaps the "larger deal" that is mentioned with getting Thomas Robinson has something to do with Aldridge? Still don't know how it'd work though....
-
2012-2013 NBA thread
I've been trying to figure out a scenario that makes sense....Cleveland is also one of the teams said to be interested in Thomas Robinson. Now the NBA trade machine won't let me do this because they haven't accounted for all the money Cleveland is freeing up via FA yet so I just don't know if this is possible or not. What about this scenario.... Bulls get the #1 pick Houston gets the trade execption (if thats how that works).. Cleveland gets Robinson and Deng Cleveland is far enough under the cap that they could do such a deal. Houston only wants to clear space to offer Dwight a max contract. The Bulls then get the #1 pick and can go with a Rose/McLemore/Butler/Boozer/Noah or Rose/Butler/Porter/Boozer/Noah starting 5....But they also lose their trade exception and would be forced into a couple vet minimum players playing a role off the bench.
