  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 11:48 PM) Cano didn't choose Jay-Z as his agent so he could sign with a bottom 3 team in the standings. If it's not the Yankees for Cano (the heavy, heavy favorite), then you'd have to think it will be the Dodgers. I realize that's likely to be the case, but I'm just surprised that people are shunning even the thought of it.
  2. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 10:20 PM) I love Cano but it will be hard for the White Sox to win if they go out and sign guys to mega deals. They just won't maintain the type of payroll it takes to be able to cover up for those guys when the contracts are no longer playable. The Sox best case is using their money on younger players (who they acquired during the pre-arb years) and on quality veterans on more short-term deals, imo. Its unfortunate that the Sox couldn't just go on a draft and international signing spending spree. Hell, I'd love it if we just said f*** it next year and took the penalty on the international front and just dropped a s***-ton of money. (I'm bored) This feels like I'm in the NBA thread all over again... "Even if the Bulls ditch Deng and Boozer they still can't get a max contract." Instead now it's.. "Even though the Sox just saved 20M, have another 25M coming in, and have a boatload of money coming off the books we still can't sign Cano" It's a long shot that even becomes a FA but if he does I say why not? How long are they gonna waste this good pitching? I realize they're all young and will still be around when when they're done "rebuilding" but still, why not make that push? Robinson Cano is a guy that can turn this ball club from day 1. His left handed bat allows the Sox to bat Dunn further down in the lineup which is a plus. He's also gonna give the guy hitting in front of a lot more fastballs to look at. That said I'm going to tweak the lineup I originally posted putting Rios in the 3 hole batting in front of Cano. Why because I just stumbled upon a stat that said Rios hit .371 last year with a .671 slugging% vs fastballs. If Dayan hits like he has in July you're looking at a really good #5 hitter and it moves Dunn to the 6 spot keeping the middle of the lined balanced R/L/R/L. Then you keep it balanced with the wild card that is Avisail Garcia who has no pressure on him hitting in the 7th spot, if they get 15/15 out of the 7 hole they're doing things right. Gilaspie continues the L/R balance and he gives them another guy who can hit 15 HRs in the bottom of the order. The same thing with Phegley in the 9 spot. It's all a pipe dream though, I'm surprised it's not shared by others.
  3. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 10:23 PM) I think we are going to see a really good Tank next year. He's made a ton of progress this year, imo. He quietly just had a really good July. Batted .308/.368/.529 with 10 extra base hits and 4 of those were home runs....This is his 2nd month with an obp over .340 which I would just love if he could give us that a whole season. If that and the power he's displayed this month sticks with him he would look really nice in the middle of the lineup.
  4. Its too bad Tank didn't turn into that 30 HR guy Harold Reynolds and some here thought he's be. How sexy would a De Aza CF- L Beckham SS- R Cano 2B-L Rios RF-R Dunn DH-L Tank 1B-R Gilaspie 3B-L Garcia LF- R Phegley C- R That's a hella balanced lineup, and if Tank gets his power stroke back you can switch him and Rios.
  5. Are there people really saying no to Robbie Cano? Are we just going to be forever afraid of top free agents? I know everyone wants to rebuild but if they grab Cano I believe they become instant contenders.
  6. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 05:04 PM) Archie Bradley as a prospect is in a different galaxy from Garcia. If you're looking at a prospect list, yes. If you're looking at what we need I would value Garcia more than Bradley. I may be alone on that.
  7. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 05:20 PM) We can't put a defensive team like that on the field. Well win 60 games again. Maybe 70 as the offense is better. Phegly may be worse than flowers...0 walks and counting. YOung hitters, please. Once again, young hitters aren't gonna be available in free agency and the chance of getting them in a trade seem pretty thin. If the Sox wanna compete next year it's gonna be with guys like Kendrys Morales and Curtis Granderson.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 04:50 PM) Um Archie is the top pitching prospect in all of baseball. With that said, I am almost positive there is no chance he was available. I get that but at some point this team needs to start bringing in bats and Avisail Garcia is a good place to start. We've seen what good a good pitching staff behind this offense will do and it isn't pretty. Maybe it's just my raging boner for Garcia that is obstructing my thought process though. Any player that has been taken under Miguel Cabreras wings is a player I want.
  9. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 04:42 PM) Wait what? Jackie Bradley? Archie Bradley? As in top 20 prospects in baseball? I would be ecstatic if that was the return. Archie...I'd rather have the potential impact bat in Garcia.
  10. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 04:10 PM) Hitters coming into their prime, please. Not getting that in this soon to be FA market. What we need to do is get Kanye West to convince Jay z to have Cano sign with the Sox. =p
  11. QUOTE (gatnom @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 03:50 PM) Not eating money for better prospects, assuming it was possible, in the Peavy deal was a mistake, imo. I think this depends on what they do with the money saved. If they sit on it then yes, it could be viewed as a mistake, if it was possible.
  12. At the end of the day I wanted the Sox to add at least one near mlb ready potential impact bat...The Sox did that.
  13. Shocked Texas didn't pick up a bat...Is the waiver period all of August?? I can still see something happening there. I would hope either Rios or Dunn get claimed. I'm cool with leaving Garcia in the minors the rest of the year but would be pretty bummed if he's not in the lineup next season. I suppose if neither go during the waiver period or in the offseason then we COULD be looking at a Garcia-De Aza-Rios OF with Dunn and Tank at 1B/DH.
  14. QUOTE (Paulstar @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 12:44 PM) If your trading Reed, you better get a better prospect than Owings. Owings looks like a nice prospect and all but he is flawed (inflated numbers this season, poor K:BB, can he stick at SS?). I'm not understanding why everyone is infatuated with him Oh idk, maybe because he's batting .346 in AAA and is showing plus power for the SS position. Scouting reports say he can be solid at SS. He's a top 100 prospect, that's kinda more than what I'd expect for an above average, not great, closer. Plate discipline is something I believe a hitter can work on more as they get older. We're seeing a little bit of that with Dayan this year.
  15. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 12:35 PM) I thought that said "Lindstrom for Owings+" and was like "SIGN ME UP!" Would you say no to Reed for Owings+? I wouldn't. I'd trust Jones or Webb as the closer next year. If the offense takes off and neither are successful then they can look to add a closer in 2015.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 12:31 PM) JIM BOWDEN ‏@JimBowdenESPNxm 1m Diamondbacks, Tigers working the reliever market hard Reed for Owings or Davivdson +
  17. Lexi may be gone in the next 5 hours and no one likes him but..... Eh? Note the s***ty fireworks that steve would have to fix....
  18. More likely scenario next year..... A. Garcia-De Aza-Rios OF with Tank at first. B. Tank-De Aza-Garcia OF with a FA at first. C. Tank-Garcia-Rios OF with a FA at first. D Tank-De Aza-Rios OF with a FA at first and Garcia in AAA If Tank shows off some more power down the stretch I'd be fine with A. B. is what I think a lot of people are hoping for, but the latest reports make it seem like Rios will be here next year. C. Would be pretty interesting offensively, reports say Garcia can play an adequate CF, who leads off though? D. would make me a sad panda just because I wanna see Garcia in the big leagues next year.
  19. If he taps into that raw power of his, oh boy...Giddy up. A Rios deal has to be on the horizon tomorrow. Unless they plan on moving Tank to 1B it make no sense to have Garcia repeat AAA or be a 4th OFer. Don't really like that plan too much though. I think it makes more since to get a one of Morales, Morse, or Napoli in the offseason.
  20. I loves me some Avisal Garcia, I hope he makes the tigers regret trading him. There were games last year where I thought he was gonna be the next big thing. If Middlebrooks is merely in the midst of a sophomore slump (what I'm hoping Tank is going through) then he could be a huge get. I would love to see that 30+ HR pace he had last year in the middle of the lineup.
  21. When can we start talking about the draft? Am I the only one that wants Bellinger over Rondon? Sox look like they can develop pitching fairly well so I'd rather have the hitter with incredible power potential.
  22. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 07:12 PM) Anyone know anything about these guys? Joe Ostrowski ‏@JoeO670 9m John Sickels(@MinorLeagueBall) guesses #WhiteSox will get Mikie Mahtook & Parker Markel for Jesse Crain. http://sbn.to/13UVZiX #Rays Collapse mlb.com... Getting ready for football season.
  23. Hopefully Joel Peralta or Rodney are on the biogenesis list so they have to use him more....I get the whole keeping him away from Boston thing but that bullpen is pretty solid.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 04:04 PM) Roch Kubatko ‏@masnRoch 28m Dan Duquette on rumors that the #orioles would trade Dylan Bundy: "That probably came from someone who wants to trade for the player." That makes sense. I can't see them giving up a future ace for Peavy. While I really want hitting back for Peavy(still don't understand the reports of hahn wanting pitching) I couldn't pass on a guy like Bundy. It would be tough to sell to the casual fan but I think it'd be absolutely worth it. His potential is limitless, even if he no longer can hit triple digits on the gun.
