QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 11:37 PM) I think that is a terrible return for Sale, much less Sale and Alexei. Really now? You get a potential ace in Martinez or Wacha, and 3 good left handed bats to really balance out the lineup (we have zero LHB in the minors). I like it much better than ones Q posted. They can throw in Blazek and some lower level guys as well.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 08:57 PM) Again, these are the types of deals I'd be willing to trade Sale for. And that's only if we get Rodon. No team is going to pay that price. I'd add in the Cards to this crazy list. Adams/Tavares/Martinez or Wacha/Carpenter(hitter) for Sale and Lexi. I'd want at least one guy who has already produced admirably at the major league level. Adams and Carpenter(who could make sense with Wong coming up) give you that. Throw in 2 more top 25 prospects and I just couldn't say no to that..Added Lexi just to make it a little more realistic. It'd have to be something ridiculous like that.

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 10:35 PM) Man.. you know the Sox have reached an all time low when fans consider their DH hitting a whopping .225 the best hitter in the lineup. You can throw that .225 out the door right now. The hitter he's been the last 2 months+ you can proudly say that he's our best hitter.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 11:01 PM) My 2 month winning streak in the soxtalk fantasy league was finally snapped(I see you Steve). Sox were roughly 25 games under in that time period, and just 4 under in the previous 2 months...I'm convinced the Sox will now start playing good baseball. It's happening....

Veteran hitter most likely to be here for 2015 season
2nd_city_saint787 replied to Jake's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It may be worth noting that the Sox really have no LH middle of the order bats in the minors and the FA market for them leading up to 2015 is pretty bleak as well (Adam Lind, Kendrys Morales, and Brian McCann are the only worthwhile players on a tentative list). This could lead to Dunn being more likely to be resigned for the 2015 season. -

I went with Keppinger just because he makes the most sense for the future due to him being a "valuable" piece off the bench. I'd be down to resign Dunn to a 1 or 2 year contract if he continues to hit like he has the last 2 months. If Semien keeps hitting like he is in the minors I'd hope he is up by 2015. As far as Rios and the OF goes I'm hoping 1. Garcia can hang in center (not necessary if Thompson makes it) and 2. One of Thompson, Jacobs, or Hawkins(long shot) pushes their way into a starting role.... If they don't and Rios wants to re-up for just another year I'd go for it. -

Torii Hunter thinks Garcia can handle CF easily. Some pretty good stuff from Torii on Garcia....Torii himself was always a bigger CF as well. -

Greg, its been fun pointing out your ignorance over the years but I've had enough...congrats on being my first blocked poster. PK Power. -

Mike Trout is 6'2" 230 and he plays a gold glove CF. Jake, you've watched the past few games, any early reports on his D? -
There's no where to watch minor league games for free right? I wanna see EJ, Garcia, and Semien.

Wonder what Tanks reach/arm length is. That could play into whether he's too short or not. If he's got a long reach that could make up for a few inches he lacks......Too add to the previous lists Carlos Santana who played some first is also 5'11".

QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Aug 3, 2013 -> 02:05 PM) It's so weird.... De Aza has really been swinging the bat well for awhile, Alexei has really been swinging the bat well for awhile, Dunn has really been swinging the bat well for awhile, & Beckham has really been swinging the bat well for awhile yet we still have a hard time scoring runs. IMO De Aza & Alexei have been great table setters at the top lately, but the meat of our order just has not produced. .....man what a frustrating season. Frustrating indeed, like I told greg in the other thread, we've hit better than the Royals pretty much across the board for all of July yet they went 15-10 while the Sox went 8-18. Sox and Royals ERA for the month is exactly the same as well. It's the errors that are costing us. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 3, 2013 -> 03:25 PM) I know, but he turned around the team while he was there. The Sox just sat back and kept losing. Royals only scored 5 more runs than the Sox last month. Their batting average was 11 points lower than the Sox. They had 41 less total bases. Their OBP was just 4 points higher. Their slugging% was 16 points lower than the Sox. The Royals .247 batting average in July was the worst they had all year. The Sox put up a better mark in June, July, and were only 2 points (.245) away from that in May. ..It's not like he came aboard and they suddenly started hitting more... KC has committed 30 less errors than the Sox, this is why they're having the better year, not George Brett who statistically has made their offense worse.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 3, 2013 -> 12:43 AM) What have you seen out of Hahn that makes you think he'd sign Granderson . I'd say it's a long shot at best. We've only had 1 year of Hahn, you can't really make a case either way right now. Just because he didn't add to an already rather high payroll last year doesn't mean he won't this year with a much, much lower payroll.

QUOTE (Tannerfan @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 06:49 PM) I'm not sure he's a good enough offensive player to be a first baseman. I'm also not sure if he's a good enough offensive player to be a left fielder. Those are valid concerns. If he can consistently give us what he gave us last month though he'd be fine there in a rebuilding year. I'd say the only chance he isn't back in the OF in 2015 is if a guy like Jacobs or Thompson emerges as an everyday outfielder...Which would be a good problem to have....Or if he proves to be a good first basemen. If the power comes then they have their first basemen of the future.

QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 03:09 PM) if this is what it takes to get rid of Adam Dunn, count me in. Chances are Dunn is the DH with Tank at 1B. Dunn has been really good for 2 months now, when are you haters gonna cut him some slack. We want obp on this team right? his obp the last 2 months has been in the .390s.

Don't wanna start a new thread for this so seeing as this is somewhat relevant to this subject I'll post it here. By relevant I mean the 2013 offense in a nutshell has falied to be consistent up and down the lineup. I wanna have some fun with sample sizes.... Our hitters best months in a projected batting order... 1. De Aza- .296/.366/.444 2. Keppinger- .317/.388/.400 3. Rios .277/.352/.511 4. Dunn .274/.402/.589 5. Tank .303/.364/.517 6. Gilaspie .311/.368/.492 7. Beckham .303/.337/.447 8. Lexi .281/.316/.382 9. Phegley .219/.215/.406 How nice would it have been if these guys consistently put up those numbers? With this pitching staff that's a contending team for sure.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 12:44 PM) There's just no reason to extend Dayan at the moment. I was actually supposed to delete the quote and just simply post what I posted....I was gonna throw some more stats at greg but then realized it's pointless

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 10:35 PM) I'd flip flop Ramirez for Rios in that sentence and be OK with it. Alexei isn't a miserable player IMO. He has value to an MLB team even though he makes a decent wage. I know it's beating a dead horse with you but... Rios has a ton of value to other teams as well. I just saw that he hits .315 vs fastballs after hitting .361 the previous year. If you put Alex Rios in front of a really good hitter he's gonna see more fastballs and he's gonna be very productive. He would look really good in front of Beltre in Texas. At this point Dunn, while still dangerous, isn't a guy an opposing pitcher is gonna say "Oh man I better not mess around with this guy with Dunn on deck"

2013-2014 NFL Thread

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 12:39 PM) SportsCenter @SportsCenter 4m THIS JUST IN: NFL Pro Bowl will no longer have AFC vs. NFC format. Teams will be chosen with fantasy-like draft. (via @AdamSchefter) What they need to do is add a skills competition and make a weekend out of it. I still probably wouldn't watch the game itself but a skills competition could be all sorts of fun. -
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 12:56 AM) I like your dream I even think its attainable without Cano but things would really have to break the right way but why not ? Maybe Morneau finds the magic again to fit your dream or some other free agent who won't break the bank and is undervalued . That's an even better dream .It's an even numbered year coming up and everyone wants us to be ready to compete again in the dreaded odd numbered year. Perhaps, but if you're going with Morneau you're not gonna have one of Tank, Dunn, Rios, De Aza, or Garcia in the lineup and they all play a huge role in my dream. De Aza because we need a leadoff hitter. Rios because I think he's smash in front of Cano Without Dunn the lineup loses a good deal of power. And without guys like Garcia and Tank(who like I said they should extend now) the lineup could get rather costly. Getting a guy who produces so well at 2B makes all the difference in the world.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 12:18 AM) You do realize that Cano is going to get like a 10 year deal for $250 million right? It's just not gonna happen. There will be 2 teams interested: Dodgers and Yankees. I certainly realize that, 25M a year, at least . I just think with the 20M they saved from Peavy, the 25M coming in from the TV deal, and the what 20M+ that's coming off the books next year that the Sox can afford to do it. I doubt he leaves NY, and even if he does the White Sox obviously don't look like an attractive but if he was willing to come here I just couldn't say no....This is all just pipedream talk lol let me have my fun.

What happened to Mr. Optimism Jake? I guess we'll just agree to disagree on this. I truly believe adding one super star to the mix turns this whole thing around. My little paragraph in my last post just made so much sense to me lol but I guess that's why I've been called quite the optimist on several occasions. BTW Rios is batting .315 vs fastballs this year to go along with the .371 last year...You put him in front of Cano and he'll see A LOT more fastballs thus being an even better hitter. Financially, they have the extra 25M this year, then the following year Sale and Cano are your only big salaried players. Esp. if the Sox can work out team friendly deals with Jose, Hector, Tank, and Gordon plus get so production out of a guy like Semien over at short or 3rd. It's all a pipe dream though.
