QUOTE (Baron @ Aug 12, 2013 -> 07:15 PM) http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox-talk/v...abreu-white-sox Oh I like that.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Aug 12, 2013 -> 07:03 PM) When are you getting smoke? High revs? Idle? Just starting up? What color is the smoke? Burning oil and blowing smoke are probably the same problem showing two linked symptoms. Valve cover gasket is a common culprit for that. Valve cover gasket is what I was thinking at first as well until I looked at my coolant and saw it looked like a chocolate milkshake in there. That's leading me to believe it's potentially a blown head gasket. But then again I'm not losing any coolant, unless it only appears that way due to the amount of oil getting in. Anyway, it's white smoke when I just start the car...but only after adding oil. I just got an oil change Saturday, that night when I started it I got a good amount of smoke out the tailpipe and it continued for about a block before going away. Same thing Sunday morning. This morning I had no smoke whatsoever. Really hoping it's not the head gasket because I don't have the thousand dollars or whatever to fix it.

QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 12, 2013 -> 06:00 PM) Probably not. If I had trusted scouts, they may be able to sway me though. Only quote I've heard from a talent evaluator was from David Forst, assistant GM for the A's who scouted Cespedes while he was out there. The article, which I posted earlier, called him "The best offensive weapon on the planet" to which Forst had this to say... Now assuming he means a healthy Ryan Howard he could be a steal at even say 12M a year.

Is this thread being used as an automotive help thread or just strictly talking about fancy cars...I could use some opinions on why my saturn is burning oil and blowin smoke...any gear heads here? I can go into detail.

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Aug 12, 2013 -> 04:55 PM) I find league of legends to be the better game. I've never played it but I heard a lot of people mention it in the short time period where I was all about dota. This is actually the first non sports game I've ever really gotten into...I've never felt so nerdy watching the championships last night. Winning team won 1.4M, that is just crazy to me!

Here's the really well written piece on him that sold me. http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/760160...e-weapon-planet David Frost, the assistant GM for Oakland, compares him to Ryan Howard...Pre-injury Ryan Howard I assume. Also the article notes that his obp is inflated by leading the league in intentional walks and HBPs. Still though even if you subtract those his obp would still be pretty high.

I feel like such a "hipster" when it comes to this guy. I posted about him being the best Cuban hitter out there and me wanting him the day before the news even came out that'd he'd come to the US. I read an article that said he's the "best offensive weapon on the planet". He's put better numbers than anyone ever has in Cuba. He missed 20+ games one year and still tied Cespedes for the league lead in HRs one year. I'm all in on this guy, and I think it'd be silly for someone not to be. Even at 10 mill a year he certainly wouldn't break the bank. I'm ok with guys like Morales or Hart at 1B but neither would be quite as exciting and generate more of a buzz than this guy. Bring on Abreu-mania
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 12, 2013 -> 12:56 AM) The ultimate high risk, high reward. Absolutely. With all the money the Sox have the risk wouldn't even be that high really. Adding say 8 mill a year wouldn't be that big of a hit to this team.

Posted this in the Puig thread just yesterday... QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 10, 2013 -> 02:53 PM) Jose Abreu is the best hitter in Cuba, I can't find anything saying he'll come to the US though. If he does Sox should be all over him. He's 26 and check out this stat line .453/.597/.986 with 79 runs, 93 RBI and 33 home runs in only 66 games. C'mon Tank and Lexi, get on the phone and get this guy over here. ...then a day later this comes out??? QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 11, 2013 -> 10:34 PM) The payroll is interesting, because it would be hard to believe that the FO would run out there without bringing it up to at least $70m or so, even though no one expects us to compete. Makes you wonder if the will go for someone like McCann if they feel like he can take some ABs at 1B/DH as he gets older and no impact bat in the system that projects at 1B in the near future. Then again: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/08/jose...-from-cuba.html GASP! It's fate...I want this guy.... Says he'll get more than the 7/42 Puig got and that is totally fine with me. Hell I'd go 7/56-63, or whatever if I had to. Yes there's some risk involved but there's been a good enough trend of Cubans coming over here and doing good things. This guy put up better numbers than Puig and Cespedes. He could be a franchise changer. Oh god, I salivate at the thought of signing both he and Cano.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 11, 2013 -> 11:47 PM) I can't believe we swept the Yankees. Sox continue to be a bucket of suck. 3 of 4 to Twins in the Cell. Hilarious. To Robin and all White Sox coaches: You are sure doing a helluva job with this team. The Sox are surprisingly 12-10 vs the AL East, which is without question the best league in baseball. Just 7 under vs teams outside the division. The all to familiar story remains the same though, they can't beat the teams within their division.

Anyone here play Dota? My buddy sparked my interest after telling me about the 3 million dollar tourney thats going on right now...Game is all sorts of funstrating (you read that correctly, funstrating, a hybrid of fun and frustrating).

PSYCH OUT!

I'm all about signing 2 bats this offseason. With the pitching staff already in place all they need is some offense to compete. Corey Hart is the guy I'm most intrigued by because he more than likely will be looking for a 1 or 2 year contract coming off an injury. If the Sox can't turn it around he then becomes trade bait. McCann is the guy I'd want long term.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 10, 2013 -> 11:35 PM) If he's a very good hitter why doesn't any other team want him? Still isn't worth the money apparently. Perhaps the asking price is out of this world and GMs know this? There is no denying he's been a very good hitter for a long time now.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 10, 2013 -> 02:56 PM) Are the Braves loaded with cash? They've made some big signings recently which didn't pay off and have always tried to keep their payroll at a reasonable level. And I'm not saying we will sign him but if i were the GM, he'd be #1 on my list. With Gattis emerging as a threat I'd be surprised if ATL resigns McCann. Gattis is blocked at 1B by Freeman, and when all healthy he's blocked by the Uptons and Heyward in the OF.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 10, 2013 -> 07:32 AM) It would have to be a Cuban. Any Dominican player with that talent would have already been signed by a major league team. Jose Abreu is the best hitter in Cuba, I can't find anything saying he'll come to the US though. If he does Sox should be all over him. He's 26 and check out this stat line .453/.597/.986 with 79 runs, 93 RBI and 33 home runs in only 66 games. C'mon Tank and Lexi, get on the phone and get this guy over here.

QUOTE (beck72 @ Aug 10, 2013 -> 06:37 AM) Choo would be a big upgrade over Rios on offense. Looking at both of their wOPA, Choo has been above avg. to great 3 of the last 4 years, Rios only above avg. 1 time. looking at wRC+, Choo again has Rios beat, being far above avg. 3 out of 4 years, and Rios above avg. 1 year. (Even factoring in that Choo was injured in 2011, and Rios' brain fart that same year.) The sox need offensive upgrades at many different positions. Choo would qualify, especially if you are talking about similar money as Rios. Choo can't hit lefties, his .179 average vs lefties scares me, esp in the same lineup with Dunn. At least Rios hit both right and left handed pitching. If they let PK go the Sox will have lost 2 of the 3 guys who hit lefties well. To replace one of them with Choo who has no HRs vs LHP this year and has had a sub .200 BA the last 2 years vs them the last 2 years is a mistake.
-
I want McCann and Hart. Hart should be looking for a 1-2 year contract coming off an injury so he won't really break the bank or tie them up for years to come. He replaces Pauley as RH thumper in the middle of the lineup. McCann fills the hole behind the plate (I've sadly given up on Phegs already) and he also allows them to better balance out the lineup as far as L/R goes. If Dunn doesn't continue what he's dunn the last 2 months then they could bat McCann 3rd or 4th while moving Dunn down to the 5th or 6th spot.

Soo who's the next Puig? I don't mean a 16 or 17 year old like Micker Zapata, I mean a player like Puig who is older and only gonna needs a year or 2 in the minors. I've tried google and all i get are young prospects.

QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 12:15 AM) Trout also has 50 SB type speed. Garcia stole 23 bags last year while getting on base a lot less than Trout. Garcia stole a bag every 7 times he reached base, Trout stole every 5. Everything I've read says he has great instincts in the OF and can play an above average CF. Maybe in a few years that changes but for the next few years I'd love to see Garcia patrolling CF.
-
Has anyone been watching the games that can touch on Garcias D in CF? People say he's too big at 6'4" 240 but Trout is 6'2" 230 and he's one of the best out there in CF.
-
Though they wouldn't help us in the near future I'd love to see the Sox get back Joey Gallo or Ronald Guzman. Sox don't really have a left handed middle of the lineup hitter in the minors so getting one of them back would excite me. They're both probably long shots though.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 09:50 PM) I haven't watched that many games since the Sox turned to crud. How is DeAza in the clutch? That was a lousy at bat with the game on the line. I know he's been hitting pretty well this year at .280 and knocked in some runs. How is he when it matters? .339 with a .942 OPS w/RISP

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 12:30 AM) Martinez and Wacha aren't on the same stratosphere as a guy like Sale. I'm not moving Sale in that package. We have an ace and a strong rotation...lets use the money we have, hope some of our guys develop, and try rebuilding the offense. A guy like Brian McCann is a start. Oh,I agree, I'm just bored and wanna have some fun. Getting the #2 prospect in baseball, an all star at 2nd or 3rd, a LH power hitter to replace Dunn, and (since Q talked me into it) 2 potential aces in Wacha and Martinez, would just be tremendous to me. Hell they would have even more money for McCann after the deal, and then some, bring on Morales too. If Garcia, Semien, and Tavares turn into the guys we/Card fans are hoping for the offense would be pretty sick. 1. Semien SS R 2. Carpenter 3B L 3. Garcia RF R 4. McCann C L 5. Morales DH S 6. Tavares CF L 7. Tank LF R 8. Adams 1B L 9. Beckham 2B R with a rotation of (in any order) Wacha-Santiago-Martinez-Q-EJ That would be one exciting ball club to watch for many a years to come. 3 through 8 would all be interchangeable based on who's hitting the best.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 12:12 AM) Martinez and Wacha. Not or. The two deals I posted...Skaggs and Homberg and Cole and Tallion. That's 2 high level pitching prospects from each deal + bats. That's where conversations start. Ya, you're right, had to look over your deals again, they're better than the one I proposed. I'd still want some bats that are already producing in the majors in any kind of deal for Sale. All the minor league hitters you proposed the white sox getting could very well never amount to anything in the bigs. The Cards would have the bullets. If they theoretically got Martinez AND Wacha to go along with Q, Santiago, and Danks/Reinzo/EJ that could be something special.
