  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 01:29 AM) Since there's no thread from tonight's win, I'll use this file. NICE PITCHING again against the punchless Royals. I'm going to the game Thursday which means Axe will pitch and we will lose. It looks bad for me having an enjoyable night with Shields on the mound. I can only hope my arch-nemesis Dunn can connect vs. Shields. We need to keep hitting bombs and it's Dunn time. We lose Wednesday without Viciedo's bomb. Need some home runs. My guess is we lose 7-1 or even 7-0. I may see a shutout since we're trying for a sweep. Lol I like how just a few weeks ago you were applauding the Royals for bringing in George Brett because he turned around the Royals, and now they're the punchless Royals because they lost to the Sox.
  2. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 12:08 AM) Yeah, Edwards is definitely a nice prospect though but the point was that the package received from the Red Sox was weak, all other things considered. I will once again say meh, If Garcia turns into the player we all hope he is then I wouldn't call it weak. Had the Sox taken on some $$ then the return would have been better. I'm hoping the fact that they didn't chip in any money means they will put that into free agency....14.5M in savings is nothing to ignore. That could end up being Abreu and a good RP.
  3. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Aug 21, 2013 -> 11:47 PM) At Winston-Salem? Who could you be talking about? Edwards is top 2 in our system if he isn't number 1. The best we have to offer for starting pitching at W-S is Jaye. I was looking at the wrong team..I fail...I was looking at Jake Cose's Kanny stats. But still, the 14.5M could be huge if they wanna be players in the FA market.
  4. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Aug 21, 2013 -> 10:57 PM) I guess it's relevant to this thread, is anyone else disappointed about the prospects we received from the Red Sox? I mean Montas has a big arm and control issues so he's a wild card but the other two? eh Meh, to use the Garza deal as reference, Garcia>>>Olt, who btw is batting .128 in 26 games with the Cubs. Throw in the 15M saved that can be used for a guy like Abreu and I think we came out better than they did. Sure CJ Edwards looks real good but he's still only in A+, we have guys in A+ that are looking just as impressive and hardly no one talks about them.
  5. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 21, 2013 -> 10:35 PM) They have certainly shown to have the better GM for rebuilding but then again, I'm not sure we're at that point. And ultimately that plan is a crapshoot as it is. "We're" not, and nor were "we" this past offseason. I went with the Sox just because I believe they have less holes to fill. Really though I think it's all about who wants to spend money. If the Sox wanna bring in a 1B(Abreu, Morales, Hart, Lind) and a catcher (McCann, Salty) they realistically can make it back NEXT YEAR IMO.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 20, 2013 -> 11:23 PM) That's why I'm wondering if he's our new bulldog/grinder. I liked his facial expressions in the dugout. He seems to have TWTW for a lousy team. We could use a new Peavy bulldog for the future rotation IMO. Danks has always been a "bulldog", this is nothing new. QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 11:01 PM) My 2 month winning streak in the soxtalk fantasy league was finally snapped(I see you Steve). Sox were roughly 25 games under in that time period, and just 4 under in the previous 2 months...I'm convinced the Sox will now start playing good baseball. lol the Sox are 10-5 since I made this post.....THIS IS REAL!
  7. Fun fact...Of the top 50 HR hitters in history there are only 2 hitters on the list who have played less than 15 seasons...Albert Pujols and Adam Dunn. Both have played 13 just seasons.
  8. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 19, 2013 -> 09:19 PM) Rollins was putting no weight on it after Ziggler put him over the rope, it looked like he did some serious damage right off the bat Rybacks bully segments are really stupid. If it was serious he wouldn't have been out there vs Show....Rollins just sells really well.
  9. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 19, 2013 -> 08:08 PM) Pretty sure Seth Rollins f***ed his knee up ....Or not. Am I only one that thinks those Ryback segments are pretty weak? However it would be cool if they used one of those segments to debut a small guy like Generico.
  10. Sooo Ricardo and RVD huh? That sure makes a lot of sense....Well at least an RVD/Del Rio feud should be good..
  11. "The season will start soon. I plan on playing on the field just as I always have. I've got great coaches and a solid organization. Don't read between the lines. I'm working hard everyday and I Got this!" -J'Marcus Webb
  12. What are your guys thoughts on "buying low" on Headley? I'm not sure if it would cost Q or Santiago but if it did would you do that? If he returns to his 2012 numbers that would go a long way towards contending.
  13. QUOTE (MAX @ Aug 19, 2013 -> 12:34 AM) The OP does. I stand corrected. I thought his post was the same as the poll....It's possible that a few teams like Philly, San Diego, San Fran, or the Mets all finish with a worse record.
  14. QUOTE (MAX @ Aug 19, 2013 -> 12:04 AM) 7th or 8th pick? Jesus. I want something in the middle to happen. Young guys play strong but we get the 3rd or 4th pick. No one has said 7 or 8...I think 5 or 6 is a possibility if they continue to play like that have been in August (.500 so far for the month). I don't think there's a chance they finish behind Houston or Miami. I think Milwaukee w/o Braun has a good chance at a worse record. I'm really hoping the finish ahead of the Cubs, just cuz. I also wouldn't be surprised to see them finish ahead of the Twins.
  15. I've been all about "tanking" but the more they win the more my mind changes....At this point I just wanna see them finish better than Cubs. I've got a lot of Cub fan friends and right now they can brag that they got the shinier turd. This is new to me and I don't like it. Oh and I want whoever the Cubs draft ahead of us to be a bust....just cuz. At this point the draft looks very pitching heavy at the top so even at 5 or 6 they could be looking at a good hitter, and that is what I'd like them to take.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 18, 2013 -> 10:24 PM) It is about $600k more than he should be making. I catch a whole lot of crap over on talkbears for this but I feel the Webb hate is overblown. I know the demotion and the pay cut don't really help my case but the guy didn't give up a sack in 8 of the last 9 games last year. That gets lost because the one game he did give up sacks was the Aldon Smith game that he got pwned in.
  17. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 18, 2013 -> 10:11 PM) Actually tonight's deal was to set up HHH/VKM power struggle angle leading to WM 30. Idk about that, VKM got what he wanted so I feel a Orton "Corporate" Champ angle goin on. Which makes sense since Orton doesn't really have any charisma on his own. Really hope the Punk/Brock fued continues since it doesn't make much sense for Brock to win and disappear. Holy hell did that match deliver though. MOTY so far by a wide margin in my book. Speaking of MOTY, I hear Cesaro and Zane or Sane or whatever(still Generico to me) had a 2/3 falls match in NXT that is supposed to be amazing. Seeing these guys go as much as I have on the indy circuit I certainly buy it. My bro says it should be on NXT next week.
  18. 9 and 9 in August...Or since Garcia got here...however you wanna look at it.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 18, 2013 -> 02:03 PM) Then lets dream about having Abreu in-between them All right handed...Throw in McCann and Dunn to split up the RHers...Jeebus.
  20. A win today improves their August record to 9-9. A few of those 9 loses were caused by our now awful bullpen. So yes it has been easier to watch, winning is fun, even though I'm all on board for trying to get a high draft pick.
  21. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 18, 2013 -> 01:29 PM) If it's a serious conversation why would you say clone Dunn? How would you improve he team's OBP? Replacing PKs .303 and Phegley/Flowers ~.230 with McCann and Morales or Abreu(who's shown a good eye in Cuba, not sure if it will translate) would be a great start. Perhaps like another poster said trading Lexi and giving Semien a shot would help as well.
  22. It's interrupting rastlin but ill be watching on my computer anyway. I'm in it.
  23. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 17, 2013 -> 03:45 PM) I think Petricka is best suited as a 6th-7th inning guy. And that's probably what he'll be used as.
  24. QUOTE (staxx @ Aug 17, 2013 -> 03:05 PM) Look for us to try to dump Danks/Dunn. If we can and save a little bit of $$$, I have little doubt that we will end up with this kid. Even without dumping 1 of those guys the Sox still have plenty of money to be in the Abreu sweepstakes. I prefer they hold onto Dunn, if he keeps up what he's done the last 3 months then the team is much better off. If they lose Dunn and don't replace him with another LH middle of the order bat then they are once again left without a power bat.
