QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 11:04 AM) What year is it? If you plan on keeping it for another 3 or 4 years and it doesn't have any other major problems then you're probably ok. Just remember that there are about 1,000 other things that can eventually go wrong. I just traded in my 1993 suburban that only had 145,000 miles on it. It ran like a champ but it had a handful of other cosmetic and mechanical problems and I didn't want it to keep nickel and diming me to death. It's a 97. I ran a diagnostic check on it and the only other problem at the moment is the egr valve which should get taken care of with a new engine. Cosmetically it's near flawless, only problem is the "ceiling carpet"(couldn't think of a better word) is hanging a bit. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 11:08 AM) How many of those 66k are in-town mileage? There's a big difference between 66k driving through and around the Chicago area, idling a lot and 66k driving on the highway with a constant speed and RPM I really have no way of knowing do I? Would the company I'm buying it from even know/be truthful about it?

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 08:39 AM) Oh god yes. Jackson is strictly a handcuff, and he's lost a step. He's not worth rostering unless you have Spiller. Brown is going to be a touchdown vulture, but that's risky business. I'm not a fan of Redman, but he's going to get carries, and Bell has a chance to win leagues this year. Makes sense....One last question for week 1....Jay Cutler or Andy Dalton? They're facing each other. Right now I have Jay starting because I don't think Cincy knows what Trestmans offense is gonna look like so I'm expecting a good game out of Jay. Plus Peanut and Jennings still look really solid. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 08:09 AM) Sure sounds like a reasonable price to me for that work. The question is, as you said, is it worth putting that into the car you own? How much is the car worth? And is now a good time to get something better, and put the 1840 towards that? I remember when the engine on my first car blew out. 1986 Subaru GL-10, was 10 years old, had 180k on it, had been in 3 or 4 accidents, and two teenagers learned how to drive in it. The previous oil change, the mechanic showed me the little metal filings in the oil - said the cam shaft or one of a few other parts was likely warped, and would eventually fail. A couple months later, sure enough, driving down the road... bizarre noise from under the hood, followed by black smoke, and a stalled car. Cam shaft apparently "shattered into a million pieces" and rattled around the block. Engine shot. Guy says, well, I can get a nearly-new engine for it, have it shipped, install it, new chain stuff... for about $2,000. I asked him how much the car would be worth then, and he said... about $2,000. I was a month from leaving Ames, going to get a full time job elsewhere, and buying a new car anyway. So I just went without a car for a month or two then bought another car. A Saturn, by the way. I had still owed the mechanic about $250 from a recent repair anyway, so he said he'd just take the car off my hands for the $250 and call it square. He said he could sell off some of the parts. The car is probably not worth that much but when I really think about it I think the right thing to do would be is to just get the engine with low miles. Chances are I'm not going to find a car with 66k on it for that price unless it's heavily damaged or has other problems. With my Saturn I already know what it needs so there won't be any hidden problems. Like I said the body is close to perfect and I get great mileage with car.. Maybe it's just the fear of the unknown but I think the new engine is worth it.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 28, 2013 -> 08:49 PM) That could definitely be another cause of a failed compression test. Might be worth a second opinion given the cost here, but take their professional opinion after actually looking at your car over mine. Could be worth a 2nd opinion but from what I've read it sounds like its the engine...Back to the original question, if it is indeed the engine how does $1840 sound for an engine with 66k on it plus a new belt, plugs, and wires sound? Comes with a 6 months parts and labor warranty. The body on it is still practically flawless, and a diagnostic test showed that the only other thing wrong with it is an egr valve which I believe goes away when putting in the new engine. So with that said, and with money tight wouldn't it make sense to just go with the engine with 66k on it rather than dropping that 1840(or less) on another car with 2x the miles and potentially more problems that I don't know about?

Are Isaac Redman and Le'veon Bell worth picking up over Fred Jackson and Andre Brown? I've got 2 flex positions in my league and could probably use Redman while he's starting while also grabbing Bell to handcuff. Right now I have Sudfeld as my 2nd flex. -
QUOTE (Knuckles @ Aug 28, 2013 -> 10:18 PM) Any idea why Stras exit early today? 72 minute rain delay...Mother nature screwin up my fantasy team.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Aug 28, 2013 -> 10:06 PM) Garcia is hitting .352 in 19 games with the Sox I just read he was actually batting an even more impressive .410 in the 19 games. EDIT- Ha, way to go yahoo...He's 25 for 71 not 61. -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 28, 2013 -> 08:28 PM) A blown headgasket will fail a compression test. The head gasket seals the cylinder head (where the valves are) to the engine block. If it's blown, there won't be a good seal in the compression chamber and you'll get bad compression test results. There can definitely be other causes of bad compression, but it definitely doesn't rule out a bad head gasket. Interesting, I got the test professionally done and they recommended a new engine. Said they could hear the intake valve and rings leaking.

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Aug 28, 2013 -> 06:56 PM) What's new? Didn't need to last game.... Interesting to see Garcia in CF even with Danks in the lineup.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 28, 2013 -> 06:54 PM) What is wrong with the engine? It failed the compression test..Cylinder 1- 140 PSI, cylinder 2-180, cylinder 3-150, cylinder 4-70. Prior to the test I had just talked to shops and they said it was the head gasket.
-
Remember when I said it was "for sure a head gasket" on my saturn?? wellll it's not. Its the engine....does 1800 for the engine, new belt, oil coolant plugs, and wires sound fair? The engine only has 66k on it

The American Wolves (Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards) are getting a tryout with the E. They're a couple of my favorite workers who have yet to work with TNA or WWE, both tremendous workers. I can't find a highlight video of them as a team but here are 2 separate highlight videos. Not sure whether they'll come in as a tag team or get split up like Hero and Claudio. WWE really needs to bring the cruiserweight belt back...So many small guys coming through the system/already here. -
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Aug 26, 2013 -> 03:01 PM) From what I've been told, it sounds like they plan to pursue Abreu very aggressively. You never know what closes it, but it won't be for lack of trying. So one of the soxtalk insiders says the Sox wanna bring back PK and another says they want Abreu....This is the trade deadline all over again.

QUOTE (balfanman @ Aug 26, 2013 -> 12:50 PM) I can be tolerant of Dunn in the lineup, excited actually, but please "NO MORE DUNN HITTING 3rd! Why not? If he's the player he's been the last 3 months(though he's struggled a bit lately) he's perfect for the 3 hole. He's had an obp of .390 for the last 3 months which would put him .001 away from David Wright and a spot in the top 10 in that category.

QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 25, 2013 -> 08:17 PM) I'd like to have a better record than the Cubs....because Cubs fans are stupid and really care about that stuff and thus make me care about it This. I said the same thing about a week ago. I know the Sox farm can use anything right now but I'd prefer they go with a hitter. Looking at the Cubs top prospects I'd venture to believe they'll go pitching this year, esp in a draft that right now seems to have a lot of pitching projected to go high.

I posted this over on talkbears in reference to the fact that Fendi Onobun wasn't apart of the first rounds of cuts and I'd like to get some more thoughts.... This might be a silly, out there, potential dumb comment that at the same time could be a somewhat innovative thought so bear with me(pun intended).... Is it possible that the thought process behind keeping Fendi is using him as a decoy of sorts? When you think about a guy with his size(6'6") and speed(4.4 40) is just having him out there stretching out the middle of the defense worth having on the team? Just having him out there will demand attention right? Teams aren't just going to let him run free deep down the field. It's certainly an out there thought but if I expected that thought from someone it'd be a guy like Trestman. -
Robin saying it was more about him being dehydrated, which doesn't really make that much sense.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 24, 2013 -> 11:40 PM) The Royals fans I was with were laughing at my dismay that Konerko wasn't playing. I didn't know he felt dizzy and wasn't able to go. Dunn had a lousy game. But it would have been worse had he not barely beat the 4-6-3 with the 4 starting in right field. Ah yes, excellent answer to my question...Since you randomly brought up that play, ya know who probably would have been out on that 4-6-3? PK...or AJ for that matter. -

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 24, 2013 -> 08:43 PM) Will DV ever turn the corner. Well he's got 12 RBIs, 2 bombs and 11 hits in his last 8 games soooo ya...He might not have turned the corner yet but it's certainly an odd time for that statement. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 24, 2013 -> 09:45 PM) Props this week to some of my least favorite Sox. Gillaspie hits the homer to make me happy in the 12th inning of the Royals game. I was shocked he elevated it out of there. My 3 Royals fans friends were pissed and I was elated. Tonight, Phegs gets the crucial single on a night Rios homered. Nice job, Phegley. I'll admit I've wondered if he has being a starter in him. And Dunn hits the 2-run bomb. Sox starting pitching certainly seems better than a team 25 under .500 or 20 under. Weird season. And before I get ripped, I haven't given up on Phegley. I don't despise him or anything. Why were you shocked he went yard? He's got 2 more HRs in 30 less ABs than Paul Konerko. -

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Aug 24, 2013 -> 10:53 AM) How come everyone has it as a conclusion Long will be a tackle. I'd rather him be a dominant guard than a good tackle and with his athleticism I think he could arguably be the top guard in the NFL down the line. He obviously has the talent to be a tackle but not necessarily be as dominant. I tend to agree with you. With Kromer and his OL operating from the inside out and putting more emphasis on guard play I'm cool with leaving him right where he is. -
