Official 2013-2014 NCAA Football Thread
2nd_city_saint787 replied to Kyyle23's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Is there a chance that both Colter and Siemian get drafted? EDIT- Probably way ahead of myself here. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 6, 2013 -> 02:56 PM) It is high school football for me tonight. Not that anyone cares if I hi-jack this thread or not but I've got an old high school teammate who's on the Fenwick coaching staff and I'd like to check out one of their games.Who's the most entertaining team of the following...Brother Rice, St. Ignatius, or De La Salle? Any chance they're televised? I don't really expect you to know this but if you did that'd be sweet....Kinda wanna surprise the guy so I don't wanna ask him.

QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 6, 2013 -> 08:01 PM) He often batted third for the Rays last year 4th more so than 3rd actually....11 ABs batting 3rd, 77 batting clean up

QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Sep 6, 2013 -> 03:49 PM) Can everyone agree Abreu>Pence>Morales. I even like Hart more than Morales. If Pence in RF is an option for '14 I would hope Garcia is in LF. The guy gets terrible reads. We need a defense first CF and we don't have one on the current roster. Agreed on Abreu>Pence>Morales, Hart is intriguing as well since he probably won't cost as much coming off an injury.. Isn't Danks supposed to be a defense first CF?

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Sep 6, 2013 -> 01:34 PM) At his best, he's basically good Alex Rios. He's a final piece to a competitive team, not a guy the White Sox bring in for 2014 unless they singed three other big free agents already. EDIT: yes, "singed." They literally need to set three other free agents on fire in order to make Pence a good idea. lol. For what it's worth Bucket did mention this all hypothetically happens if they miss out on Abreu. Should that happen who's the guy everyone wants to replace PK(That's basically what they'd be doing)??? Morales is the name we always hear on here and if you look at the numbers Morales vs Pence they are almost exactly the same. Morales- .280/.336//443 18 HRs 72 RBI Pence - .283/.334/.461 18 HRs 72 RBI The difference between the 2 though is obviously speed which obviously breaks the tie. Then throw in the fact that Pence is great in the clubhouse(something I think this team needs) I'd rather have Pence over Morales if they can't snag Abreu.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Sep 6, 2013 -> 11:46 AM) Ewwww Hunter Pence? I'd actually love me some Hunter Pence. Sox need a guy to liven up the dugout/clubhouse, and sans his time in SF last year he's been a solid hitter throughout his career.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 4, 2013 -> 12:17 AM) Release/retire whatever, just get that loser out of a Sox jersey. 7th in Hrs and 20th in RBIs(on an awful team)...What a loser.

We simply jinxed them by not having a game thread.

The Question that Begs to be Asked and Answered

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 2, 2013 -> 06:20 PM) That made me smile. I've never ever seen elRockin dislike a player on the Sox. Axe is so bad I truly think some Sox talk posters could hit him. I don't feel sorry for Robin. This team has been in the tank since getting boatraced by the Cubs. This has been the season from hell and he has 'some' decent players and a lot of good pitchers to work with. If managers matter at all, he gets a D to D- this year. Suddenly a lot of posters don't think managers matter at all, so I guess Robin remains an A-plus in some's minds. This is due to Hawk saying they don't. -

8/30 Game thread: White Sox vs Red Sox
2nd_city_saint787 replied to fathom's topic in 2013 Season in Review
I didn't see the thread so I have no idea whats going on right now, but if they could trade Q or Santiago for an impact MLB bat I'd do that all day. If an injury occurred I'd have no problem with them sending out Leesman or perhaps even Beck or Bassit further down the road. The payoff of having an impact bat is higher than having a guy like Rienzo or EJ in the pen. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 30, 2013 -> 11:38 AM) Hope he's better in the ring then Ambrose. His singles matches have been incredibly dull. Promos are money though. I thought his match with RVD was solid but ya I agree, they've been rather dull. He was more of a hardcore wrestler on the indy scene. I'd say Sami is the more technically sound of the 2 and he's got a Stan Hanson-esque lariat that I hope they let him keep. Speaking of RVD, here's an RVD v Callihan match if you get bored (15min). Great crowd in the video, I miss indy show =( Note sure how this quote got messed up. -

QUOTE (Greyone @ Aug 30, 2013 -> 01:19 AM) Not to be the correction police but that is false. El Generice is still Sami Zayn. Sami Callihan is now Soloman Crowe. This is correct. Callihan is another guy I've seen wrestle numerous times here in the NWI area. Really physical guy who I'm kinda surprised E would go after, not because he's not good but I thought he'd be too "stiff" to make it past the indies. Then again I thought the same thing with Jon Moxley and he's now the US Champ (Dean Ambrose). Those 2 were tag team partners in the "Switchblade Conspiracy". Ambrose actually "stole" Samis finisher, the headlock driver. Anyway when it comes to Callihan think a bigger Ambrose. -
I kinda feel for greg. This thread is uncanny to the tread going on over on talkbears. Balta, or any other guy on talkbears, am I the greg of talkbears or is that site filled with a bunch of gregs and I'm the only "sane" one.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 03:07 PM) Haha I'm not trying to rip you just trying to figure out how something like that happened. Waiting to long and some jackass taking 2 QBs before I took 1 is how it happened lol. Considering he was the 12 ranked QB last year and with all I'm hearing about Gio Bernard and Eifert being a factors in the passing game I don't think he'll be THAT bad...He wasn't who i wanted but I'll ride him while also hoping Jay returns to the production he put up in Denver. -

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 02:52 PM) I mean how many teams are in this league? Even if you're waiting on someone there shouldn't be that many qb's taken unless it's a 16 teamer. Man im getting ripped left and right here, guess its safe to say I should have been watching more of the NFL network this offseason. Dalton was the 13th QB taken in a 12 team league. For what it's worth he was actually the 12th ranked QB in the league last year.....Both Luck and Wilson were taken a few picks before I took Dalton. -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 02:31 PM) see what I did there Really though, with the addition of Levitre and Warmack to the line I expect him to have a huge year....Probably not 2k but I expect a much, much bigger year than last year. I drafted him in both leagues for this reason, not just his name. -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 01:37 PM) This just makes me happy that I run a very good and competitive league, or else, what's the point? Ha, I'm sure you're happy to know that I'm in your heroes league. Though I feel much more confident in that league... Ryan White VJax S. Smith McCoy CJ2K Olsen Cook Dawson Zona with Gordon, Fred Jackson, Ballard, Schaub, Sudfeld, and Sanu on the bench -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 12:56 PM) I went 3 straight RBs in a 12 teamer, you just made bad choices across the board there! There were 14 RBs taken before I got CJ2k, 16 before I got Bush. Colston is the only pick I'd like to do over with Welker, Nelson, Steve Smith, Mike Wallace, and VJax still on the board. Was really banking on Torrey Smith who went 2 picks before Colston. -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 11:48 AM) You have to go with Cutler, but how did you f*** up so badly that you ended up with Dalton and Cutler as your best two QBs? If it's a 16 team league, then I guess, but jesus, I'd rather have, in no particular order, Griffin, Romo, Rodgers, Stafford, Brees, Ryan, Newton, Kaepernick, Wilson, Brady, Roethlisberger, and P. Manning over him. That's not including high upside and potential fantasy steals in guys like Vick, E. Manning, Palmer, Luck, Flacco, or Rivers. Maybe Dalton or Cutler can improve, but those two are just incredibly mediocre options. Yaaa, about that....I really wanted Luck but waited a little bit too long. I got caught up in this being my first PPR league so I went with 3 straight RBs who should be getting a lot of receptions. Then went with 2 WRs and a TE in the next 3. At that point it was between Dalton, Vick, and Eli. For whatever reason I went with Dalton. Here's my team that I'm now iffy about. QB- Cutler/Dalton RB1- McCoy RB2- CJ2k (a reach in the 2nd?) WR- Colston WR- James Jones TE- Vernon Davis Flex- Bush (for reference Sproles went in the 2nd) Flex- Redman D- Zona K- Crosby Bench- Josh Gordon, Eifert, Sudfeld, L. Bell, Broyles. Rivers is still available but would you really take him over Dalton or Cutler?
