  1. Just gimme 1 more win, 99 loses is a lot easier on the eyes than 100.
  2. Bulls inviting DJ White and Roger Mason Jr. to training camp. White has been competent off the bench scoring wise, not sure about his D. Between he or Pittman I think you can do worse as a 5th big. Mason would be a nice add if Thibs continues to not give rookies any significant PT. Rose/Hinrich/Teague Butler/Mason/Snell Deng/Dunleavy/Snell Boozer/Taj/Murphy Noah/Naz/Pittman or White
  3. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Sep 26, 2013 -> 02:42 PM) I see your point(s). On a related note, it's almost hard to believe how bad he had to be the rest of the year to have had 2-3 solid months in there and still to end up with his season line how it was. His April (.202/.198/.226) and July (.205//231/.227) were just god awful. Those were also months where he got more ABs(84 and 88, whereas his good months he had 60 and 57), I imagine he was a full time starter in those months, which tells me his much better in a role where he's not starting everyday.
  4. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Sep 26, 2013 -> 02:36 PM) I fully side with Gomez. I will almost always side with a hitter doing pretty much whatever he wants as retribution for getting drilled on purpose. I would be in favor of a rule that says after hitting a batter, the pitcher has to stand motionless on the mound while the batter gets one chance to throw the ball back at him. I was fully in favor of Quentin football tackling Greinke. Maholm drills the Brewers' fastest player on the knee a couple months ago and there's no punishment for it. Absolutely when Gomez crushes a home run off him he should at very least stand there and admire it and yell obscenities at Maholm. If the Braves first baseman and whoever else wants to b**** about it while he rounds the bases, fine. But the McCann thing is ridiculous- no one in baseball can recall a catcher ever having blocked the plated on a home run. He should have been thrown out and fined. He caused the on-field brawl. And the obstruction causes the run to count even though Gomez never touched the plate. They also could have invoked the rule where on a walk-off, if the fans rush the field and the hitter can't touch the plate, it still counts. You don't get to just have your catcher start a fight so that a home run doesn't count. I was wondering what the back story was there, I was confused by his initial stare down....I guess I see where Gomez was coming from.
  5. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Sep 26, 2013 -> 02:17 PM) I'm blinded by his stat line: .253/.283/.317, 59 wRC+, -4.9 defensive runs, -3.7 UBR, -1.6 fWAR. I mean, holy s***. I think he deserves SOME credit for his June and August numbers. June- .317/.388/.400 August- .316/.359/.474 Even if you wanna throw out his September (.307/.350/.417) due to only having 36 Abs. The fact that he's played mostly 1B/3B/DH does put a damper on those numbers(namely the slugging%) but overall I'm fine giving him the D grade..Though I won't really argue with anyone giving him an F.
  6. I'm gonna bust out some elaborate grades to help me kill some time. Gonna give every starter a numeric grade by month, F-1, D-2, C-3, B-4, A-5, then average them out to get my grade. Dayan- D- (2.67, made him a minus for his D) Beckham- D+ (2.8, people forget that he was a .300 hitter the first 3 months) De Aza- D (2.8, see Tank grade) Dunn- C- (3.1) Flowers- F (1.1) Garcia- 8 (4.5) Gillaspie D- (2) Kepp- D (2.3 He actually had 3 "good" months) Konerko- F (1.5) Phegley- F (1.3) Ramirez- C (3) Axelrod- F (1.5) Danks- D (1.6, upped his grade because he's coming off an injury) Quintana- C+ (3.8, a "bad" June kept him from a B) Sale- B+ (4.8...pretty much impossible to get an A in this scale) Santiago- C (3.5) Rienzo- C- (2, didn't count his start in July so I'll up him a grade for that, and the fact that he's a rookie) Jones- D (2.5) Reed- C (3.1)
  7. Was/Is One Dawg considered a star? I'd put him on the board.
  8. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 02:32 PM) Ray Durham, Willie Davis. Wait a second...Willie Davis??? You mean Willie Harris? Mr. MLB fan cave better blame this on auto correct lol
  9. Willie Harris, Tony Graffinino, Rocky Biddle, Kelly Wunch, and Jon Rauch
  10. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 09:55 AM) Trying to get Roddy White for Ryan Mathews in my other league. I feel like he might bite. I have White on 2 of my teams and he kinda scares me this year. He keeps trying to play on a bum ankle, I don't know why he just doesn't sit out a week or 2 to get it healthy. That said Ryan Mathews is garbage anyway so it doesn't hurt to take a flyer on White. With that all being said.... I got Steve Smith on a bye week so who'd you start, Roddy White or Cordarrelle Patterson? Also Fred Jackson or Willis McGahee at flex? Hoping we get some Spiller injury news to make this decision easier for me.
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 24, 2013 -> 10:10 PM) Great post. Well, if there are any Scioscia lovers out there, he's going to be available. I'm more a Francona guy than Scioscia, but do we want to wait and pass on a guy like Scioscia? I really don't want some unproven bench coach as Sox next manager. I'd prefer more of an experienced manager next time. I think LaRussa's stupid for not wanting to manage the Sox, as long as his health is good. What's he doing in retirement that's more fun than spending every day at the ballpark? FYI Franconas winning percentage before coming to Boston was .438, he had 2 90 loss teams in 4 years....He then took over a team who won 90 games 2 years in a row....I think you're overrating Francona here.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 24, 2013 -> 09:59 PM) I don't think he's a "loser" per se, I think he is a stupid hitter, I really do. Here's my reasoning. The man has the power to hit home runs to left field and left center and center as well as right. Yet, except for that 1-2 week stretch where he received some positive publicity for getting some hits to left field, he tries to pull everything. You see what kind of hitter he is when he tries to pull everything, quite frankly that version of Adam Dunn is one of the worst hitters in Sox franchise history. The Dunn who sees the pitch and drills it to center and left center and even left is not so bad. I guess when you are big and strong you try to pull everything which is really really stupid. He's at .219 I believe and falling closer to that .200, .195 mark we know and love in April and May with Adam Dunn. In my perfect world, Adam Dunn elevates the pitch to all fields, but does not ever forget that leftcenter is his friend. I get your displeasure but he's simply just that, a dead pull hitter. Changing his approach may turn him into a batter who hits for a higher average but it may come at the sacrifice to his power, which is what makes him so productive. Some of the greatest hitters of all time were pull hitters. Ted Williams, Harmon Killebrew, Mickey Mantle Mel Ott, Barry Bonds, and the man who just hit a walk off today The Great Giambino to name a few(at least from what I've read). I'm certainly not saying he's in those guys leagues but simply saying that being a "Dead pull hitter" is nothing new to the game.
  13. I don't know if you get emails from whitesox.com but if you do they're giving away 2 complimentary tickets and 50% off additional tickets.
  14. lulz...The Giambino doin yard work....I love this season.
  15. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 24, 2013 -> 08:52 PM) Hosmer, Longoria--both recent 3rd picks. Can't forget Machado...Mike Zunino looks like a pretty good prospect as well.
  16. QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 24, 2013 -> 05:35 PM) It's was pretty insane sitting in the middle of 15,000 people doing the YES! Not sure if they got a good wide shot of it on TV. I can imagine...Chicago crowds are always the best...Loved the Colt Cabana chants, wish they woulda did it during the Punk promo though to see if he acknowledged it. I'm still trying to make sense of the whole 11 on 3 thing...anyone?
  17. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Sep 24, 2013 -> 10:30 AM) http://www.azcentral.com/sports/diamondbac...edule-2013.html Schedule - play starts Oct. 8. I assume Marcus Semien will still be on the roster correct? Another MLBer is on the roster as well in Miami's Derek Dietrich. Oh wow, I didn't know it started that early after the season. I would hope he's still on the roster, the more ABs the better.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 23, 2013 -> 11:47 PM) Just saw this little tidbit on Paulie's partner in suckage, Mr. Dunn. Fantasy advice: "Manager Robin Ventura thinks Dunn has looked tired recently, and the big man's .104/.211/.194 batting line over the last 21 games is also surely a factor (in sitting 3 games in a row)." I'll say this for Dunn, when he goes bad, he takes it to a new level. You might call it the Dunn-ce level of hitting. Paulie may have no power anymore, but still raps a hit a game. He usually goes 1-for-4 ish. If PK were a middle infielder then great, thats cute, but when you play 1B you need to produce more than he has. Even with Dunns slump (and PKs good month so far) his numbers vs RHP still look better, PK has the 2 point batting average advantage (.228 vs .226), but Dunns obp is 60 points higher (.328 vs .268), and his slugging% is 144 points higher (.451 vs .307).
  19. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 23, 2013 -> 01:17 PM) Yeah my team tanked badly this week. I was #1 through the first two weeks though. Yeah, seems as though I caught you at the right time since my team didn't do much better. I actually had thoughts of keeping White in over Gordon and playing McGahee over Cook which would have cost me 26 points and lead you to an easy victory...luckily I didn't.
  20. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 23, 2013 -> 09:44 AM) 3-0. not in the soxtalk heroes league =p
  21. Even though he's shown close to nothing the first 3 games, it still hurts to lose Melton. He could have potentially turned it on at any point. I wonder if the Bears take a look at Richard Seymour? If not, I expect Okoye to be brought back.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 22, 2013 -> 11:41 PM) I knew somebody would say something about the Royals. I just want our bullpen to be better and I personally see a candidate for excellence in Santiago. If he's wild coming out of the pen like the other post suggested, then obviously that's a huge problem. Walks are killers. So if he has trouble getting ready on short notice, fine, I'm mistaken. I just want a GOOD BULLPEN and I thought Santiago was an in house candidate since we have a ton of starters and a ton of lefty starters. As far as prospects, I should change it to "young pitchers" so you won't get mad. I always thought a prospect was a young player. My definition differs from yours. An excellent starter>an excellent reliever.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 22, 2013 -> 10:31 PM) I'm not going by advanced stats, just the eye test, and want to say that I don't understand why many of you are so high on Santiago. I think Q is a much much much better starting pitching prospect. I'm sick of us trotting stiffs out there in the lefthanded relief role and why not just make Santiago an EFFECTIVE lefty reliever the rest of his career? The Royals switched on Hochevar and he helped that team a lot. Why don't we do that with Santiago. I believe Q has earned the starting slot but Hector could be a bullpen guy for years to come. If we are ever going to start contending again, we'll need some lefty relievers that can, uh, get people out. Remember, this is kind of(i say kind of because he was dicked around a bit early) Hectors 1st year as a full time starter in the big. He's Just 25 years old. Take a look at the first year comparisons between he and Q.... Q- 3.76 era 1.35 Whip .275 BAA Hector(as a starter)- 3.47 era 1.38 whip .242 BAA Qs 2nd year(this year) he improved to 3.49/1.24/.249 People being high on him is legit, and there is a legit chance he becomes more efficient in year 2 like Q did this year. And like Jake said, Hochevar was forced into the bullpen role.
  24. Bears have given up 350 yards to AJ Green and Antonio Brown this year...CB has to be #1 priority this offseason....If Tillman is brought back I'd like to see him moved to safety. Get him around the ball more and get him off speedy WRs.
  25. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 22, 2013 -> 04:01 PM) No reason to trade either. If they can get back an impact bat there is. With EJ emerging and Bassit and Beck looking like they can be here in a year it makes a lot of sense. Sale-Q-Danks-EJ-Rienzo with Snodgress and/or Leesman being the emergency starters looks fine to me. Esp. if it means they upgraded the O.
