  1. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 16, 2013 -> 02:51 PM) It does the Sox absolutely no good to win the majority of their games. I don't care about your couch time. Get used to feeling like s*** every night and cussing because this season is not turning around. Actually, the long term future of the Sox will be better if they don't turn it around. Why don't you care about the draft? I understand not being into it but you must understand that it's important right? That is one avenue in which you use to acquire talent. One silver lining in this horrible season is the fact that they can add more amateur talent over the coming and will have a larger bonus pool to spend on the draft. You refusing to understand this is very irritating to me. I told myself that I wouldn't respond anymore but your ignorance just rankles me. He's like a drug, I said I was gonna block him, but his comments are so fun to dispute. This year is a lost cause, play for draft positioning, get an intriguing prospect in the draft, sign a few impact bats in the offseason and try to contend next year.
  2. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Aug 17, 2013 -> 11:32 AM) Dunn apology makes me want to barf. It's seriously like a disease that takes hold of a man's mind and forces him to forego rationality because a ball goes far once in a while. He's been much, much more than just that for awhile now though. For nearly 3 months now he has been close to .300/.415/.534....If he can put those numbers up with the addition of 1 or 2 more middle of the lineup bats (I'm praying for Abreu and McCann) then that lineup will look scary next year. If I were the GM I'd go hard after McCann and one of the few first basemen, with Abreu being the most intriguing of the bunch. They have the money to get both if they can convince them to come here. I'd then like to see Q or Santiago traded for a 3rd basemen, preferably of the left handed variety. Chase Headley has been bad this year but he's a guy that I'd look at. If he returns to his 2012 numbers look out. Some posters on here probably wouldn't wanna trade Q or Santiago straight up for Chase so I might catch some heat for it but oh well. I'd love to see... De Aza CF/LF (LF if the Sox believe Garcia can hold it down in CF) Beckham 2B Dunn 1B/DH (If the sox truly believe he's better off at 1B then go for it) Abreu 1B/DH McCann C Garcia CF/RF Headley 3B Viciedo RF/LF (if it's De Aza in left and Garcia in CF then move Tank to RF) Ramirez SS Sale Q/Santiago Danks EJ Reinzo The back end of that rotation is a wild card. If they preform well there's no reason why that team shouldn't compete. Reed Jones LH Setup FA Webb Veal Petricka Santos Rodriguez? Purcey? someone else??? That's my dream scenario.
  3. Took the car in today to 2 different places...it's for sure the head gasket, and they'd also need to replace the whole head block itself. Both places told me 1200...sound about right?
  4. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 16, 2013 -> 08:20 PM) They're both still really young, that is definitely something that can be improved upon. I think we'd all be on board for trading one if we're going to be getting a young, middle of the order hitter back but I'm not trading either for less than that. I certainly don't mean I just wanna dump them but ya, if they can get an "impact" bat back in a trade I'm all for it.
  5. Man, Q and/or Santiago really need to become more efficient. Having those 2 in the rotation is gonna be really taxing on the pen. I'm all for trading one of em this offseason.
  6. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Aug 15, 2013 -> 11:21 PM) ok, i posted and ill let you know Much appreciated Melissa! QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Aug 15, 2013 -> 11:30 PM) Kinda bad because you won't get a dependable answer that you can reference when trying to sell it. However, it tells you absolutely nothing about the value of the card. There's mountains of crappy promo stuff with minimal value that won't be listed (some of it in my room), but there's also probably a few rare items with actual market value. I would guess it's not totally worthless because it's MJ from early in his career, but that could still mean $20 or considerably more. That makes sense. I'm not sure what to expect.
  7. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Aug 15, 2013 -> 11:05 PM) do you have an account with blowoutcards.com/forums? you can ask there. if you dont have an account there, i can ask, i have an account I don't, it would be much appreciated if you asked for me....Tiz rather intriguing.
  8. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Aug 15, 2013 -> 10:29 PM) Admittedly I haven't collected cards in over a decade, so I could be completely full of it. However, that doesn't sound like something that Beckett (or a similar "official" source) would list. When I purchased the magazine regularly, they only listed major retail releases, not promotional giveaways/event specific items/dealer premiums, ect. I don't think the website was significantly different, but I didn't use that much and it was in its early stages. They also didn't list inserts with low production runs (under 75 I think, though that number may be wrong) because there weren't enough of them on the market to establish an accurate market value (or some similar BS). Your only recourse might be to find some kind of "expert" that really knows their s***. Even then, it may be hard to find a buyer since it's not something everyone is familiar with like his "official" rookie cards (assuming it is worth real money of course). Would it not being in a Beckett be a good thing or a bad thing? QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Aug 15, 2013 -> 10:43 PM) Have you tried eBay completed listing s to see if any have been sold? That's what people go by now. Beckett only shows you the lowest and highest price paid I've tried this with no success. I found this... www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/michael-jordan-1984-showtime-gold-usa-308098463 ...but I'm not sure what that "$1000" means.
  9. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 15, 2013 -> 09:31 PM) I can't imagine it being worth too much. Sports cards values have gone way down. Hope I'm wrong for your sake. FWIW, if we have any collectors here, its a "Rare" 1984 Olympics Promo card.
  10. Does anyone know of a free online beckett?? I have an MJ card that when googled is all over the map. I see people saying it's "worth a house", $1000, $4-500, $20, and $5.
  11. QUOTE (farmteam @ Aug 13, 2013 -> 05:21 PM) This happened in Indiana, right? Go to this page, for the "search by" box select "defendant" and then enter your name. Your case should come up, and it should tell you what class it was. Thanks for the help but for whatever reason Lake County isn't an option under select a location.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 13, 2013 -> 04:36 PM) Put site:soxtalk.com in the beginning of your search, then put your key words in. Thanks, it doesn't appear as though I brought up the class of the felony like I thought. Looks like I've gotta hit up the court house and get another final disposition.
  13. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 13, 2013 -> 03:27 PM) I found at least part of it here: http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/lofiversion/...84158-1200.html Hmm, that must not have been it, I do appreciate you looking it up though....I believe I was talking about going to get my PERC card when I brought up what class the felony was.
  14. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 13, 2013 -> 02:48 PM) Sounds like its a clusterf*** at the moment: http://www.courier-journal.com/viewart/201...legal-confusion Id probably just pay for an attorney if there isnt a set of forms/guide available on the internet. In Illinois its not that bad, most people do it on their own, but that Indiana article seems to suggest if you mess it up you lose your chance. That's what it seems like...I called a guy already and he told me to find out what class the felony is. I know I talked about it on here so I'm trying to find the post(s) to see whether I included the class, which I think I did. For what I did I think it'd be a low class. EDIT- Mods what would be the best way to find said posts? I've tried googling "soxtalk scs787 assisting a criminal" and the same with my previous handle "2nd_city_saint787"
  15. I'm all over the slam....A friend told me that Indiana now allows felonies to be expunged. I have quite the petty felony on my record from 6 years ago....What is that process like? Before calling a lawyer I figure I'd try to get some knowledge on the subject here
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 13, 2013 -> 01:17 PM) A lot of those were handed out before clubs really started valuing defense correctly though... 2 of the 3, Prince and Adrian Gonzalez, were given those top 10 contracts last year. The 1 OFer, Vernon Wells, was given his contract 5 years ago, a year before the other 1B on the list, Teixera, was given his.
  17. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Aug 13, 2013 -> 01:12 PM) Oh man, if only it was as easy as that tutorial. I would be a lot more reckless around the redline in my Miata if swapping a head gasket was as simple as that tutorial says. I've never had to change a head gasket but if I ever did I wouldn't trust myself to do it. People who've DIYed it have compared to some of the worst and most time consuming engine jobs. If you've got a mechanic friend and he'll accept beer as payment (and he'll bring the needed tools) go for it, but other than that its gonna have to go to the shop. Ha, Ive got fat hands, I def won't be trying to do this myself. I've got 300 saved up, if I can find a buddy I trust to do it I should be able to avoid a shop and paying an arm and a leg. First things first though, I'm going to autozone to rent the compression tester. From the sounds of it I think it's pretty much a lock that it's a blown HG though.
  18. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Aug 12, 2013 -> 11:53 PM) You're gonna have to look up the part relative to your make/model/engine, but they're pretty damn cheap. Its a labor intensive process though, you're basically taking the engine apart completely. Also be prepared to see some thing you'd probably be better off not seeing. Head gaskets usually dont blow unless the car is suffering from some abusive driving or other maintenance has been neglected. Not trying to pass judgment or anything because I dont expect people to get as neurotic as I am replacing parts at the first sign of worry, but if enough strain has been put on the engine to send the head gasket into oblivion there's probably other problems down there as well. This ehow page makes it sound rather easy and doesn't talk about taking apart the engine... http://www.ehow.com/how_7858967_replace-he...ket-saturn.html ....is it missing something? I wouldn't doubt it. Money has been an issue for over a year now. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 13, 2013 -> 07:50 AM) I owned a Saturn VUE at one point. A number of Saturn cars had a recall some years back, because coolant was some how getting itself into the block, and back out again. I wonder if you are seeing this issue come up with yours. I apologize I don't remember the exact details, but you can probably find it Googling. I'll have to look into that, it seems as though I'm having the opposite problem though. Oil is getting into the coolant reservoir.
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 13, 2013 -> 12:22 PM) Everyone's saying Trout has a huge advantage over Puig because he's a natural CFer....well, Cespedes in CF and LF giving you production (and this year has been a down one compared to expectations, just like with Viciedo) is a lot more important than a 1B with only two tools. I don't see the argument that he's worth 50-75-100% more than Cespedes, honestly. The top 10 highest salaries in the MLB features 3 first basemen and 1 OFer (Vernon Wells of all people)...Why are we acting like OFers make more money than first basemen?
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 13, 2013 -> 01:14 AM) Cespedes has been nothing special, ala Tank. This guy should not get more than Cespedes got. I know he will cause everybody loves the unknown, but he shouldn't. He put up better numbers than Cespedes in Cuba, there's no reason he shouldn't get more than Cespedes got. 09-10 Cespedes- .345/.426/.617 Abreu- .399/.555/.822 10-11 Cespedes- .333/.424/.667 Abreu- .453/.597/.986
  21. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Aug 12, 2013 -> 10:12 PM) It'd have to be pretty ancient to start looking like a chocotaco in there. You're obviously going to want to flush the coolant anyways but I see a compression test in your future. That'll give you a much better idea of whats going on. This is now the plan, thanks for the info. How much should a new head gasket cost? I could potentially find a someone through facebook that may be able to help me out, how much should a friend charge?
  22. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 12, 2013 -> 10:08 PM) We hear the comparisons to Ryan Howard. Remember what Ryan Howard looks like when he plays a little worse than expected - bad. We'd be rewarding this guy with what is basically the contract Ryan Howard received in his prime. It's kind of insane. I'll try to trust the White Sox, but hot damn is there a lot of risk if the price is as high as some speculate. Seems like an odd expenditure when you've just put yourself in an amazing position financially. Me and Jake are disagreeing?? WHAAA?? Howard got 5/125 in is prime. That's nowhere near 7/80, thought that 7 year number is just speculation from what Puig got. It'd have to be 4/80 to be even close to the contract Howard got. If it's 7/80 that's 11M a year on average, even at 6/80 they're looking at 13M on average. If Stone is right when he said that scouts think he could be an All Star right away then that's not that big of a number.
  23. I really hope Stone is wrong one way or the other. Either wrong in the statement that the Sox aren't going to pay this guy 10M a year or wrong in the comment that this guy has a chance to be an All Star in year one. If our scouts think he can be an All Star right away then they really need to do what it takes to bring this guy aboard. On a team that has a payroll of under 50M atm 10M isn't going to break the bank.
  24. That's what I fear strange. Also worth noting is it doesn't overheat...at least not yet anyway. So no loss of coolant (unless it's being replaced by oil) and no over heating which are to pretty telling signs of a blown head gasket. Would you guys suggest I simply flush the coolant and see what happens from there? I can't remember the last time I put new coolant in so theres a chance its just old???
