QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 11, 2010 -> 12:46 AM) Forest Park is definitely were the younger crowd is moving towards. As a native of Oak Park, I love that setting and Forest Park is cheaper and definitely more lively at night. I would move to Forest Park if that was my choice. As a current Oak Parker, nothing in the vicinity beats a night on the street of dreams, particularly O'Sullivans. I also find the people in FP to be very down to earth. The drawback of FP is the schools, particularly the high school, which I believe is Proviso East, so you are in a tough spot once your kids get older. I have three kids so I am in OP. Otherwise, I would pick FP. Regarding rich towns in the area, I have to confess, while I disagree with SSDon's assessment of some towns as too rich, snobby, etc. he was on target for a few, such as Oak Brook, where I grew up. I was just fortunate my dad instilled some sense of humility in his kids. However, I agree with Rock regarding Downers Grove. I went to high school at North 15-20 years ago and found the kids there that came from Downers to be pretty grounded and genuine.

QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Jan 9, 2010 -> 01:47 AM) Avoid the north and west suburbs. There's just too many snobby people. Orland Park: My only complaint is that too many rich people built their obnoxious "mini-mansions" here, which looks utterly ridiculous. Tinley Park: too many rich people moved in and built their mini-mansions, which raised prices of all the other homes in the neightborhood. Homer Glen: too many rich people, too many polish people, I work in this town and I HATE this town. Palos Heights: too many rich people, kind of a blah town. Palos Hills: too many rich people, and too many houses hidden by a ton of trees. I freaking hate towns like Bolingbrook, Oak Brook, Naperville, Downers Grove, Darien, Lemont, Arlington Heights, Mt. Prospect, Des Plaines, etc etc, there's way too many snobby rich people with elitist attitudes. Awesome unintended rant. Generalize much?

From WSJ... To a perfect game, a Gold Glove and an All-Star Game appearance, add this to Mark Buehrle's list of 2009 accomplishments: champion of the MLB Players League, a fantasy-football league on CBSSports. com that included Mets third-baseman David Wright, Phillies closer Brad Lidge and others. Mr. Buehrle won the final 114.5-95 over free-agent outfielder Eric Hinske, who juggles seven fantasy-football leagues. "I couldn't even get a hit off him in the regular season," Mr. Hinske said of Mr. Buehrle. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000142405...0171743514.html

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 8, 2010 -> 10:28 AM) LOL, Schaumburg, didnt the guy say he wanted to be CLOSE to work. That is the absolute boonies. And much farther than a 45 min drive in traffic. Try westchester on the west side. Its become somewhat affordable and is a good starter area. Hell for that money you can get a good place in Forest park and still have a good nightlife in your city as well as even an El ride to downtown. Since we are almost the same age, Forest Park would be my choice if I was transitioning to the burbs without children. Yeah, I tend to agree with Westchester and Forest Park based on the description. They are very convenient to the loop and get even better if your wife works west of the loop. Brookfield is also a decent option. Further west is Downers Grove, Lombard, Western Springs, Westmont, La Grange (probably too pricey), I think all of which have Metra stops, but it makes enjoying the city prior to having kids a little more difficult. Oak Park is also a great option with both CTA and Metra nearby but it might be tough to swing a house at $300K. Who knows though, in this depressed market there are a lot of good opportunities.

Oh, I wasn't assuming anything about the poster. It was more that only a Texan would put Texas and its citizens on a higher plain than the rest of the union.

Who is your favorite MLB team outside the Sox?
Pants Rowland replied to Marky Mark's topic in The Diamond Club
I used to always like the Orioles just because of the respect gained in 1983. They have sucked bad for some time now, though. Same with the Pirates. Another organization that was solid when I first really started following baseball but have gone by the wayside now. In the here and now, I like the Cardinals, Phillies, Dodgers, Rockies, Marlins, and, again for old school reasons, the Royals. I also do not mind the Tigers despite the common Detroit hate around Chicago. Good history of success despite the odds stacked against them being up against the Yankees all those years. I hated them when I was a kid and Sparky managed them, though. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 7, 2010 -> 04:28 PM) Some would say they count more. Really, who would say that other than a Texan?

Underdogs are always a fan favorite unless you are a fan of the favorite.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 6, 2010 -> 09:53 PM) Aronson (Aronson furniture!) home of the credit connection, Aronson! Ever see the Spanish version? (right around 0:50 is where the music starts) How about "That old car is worth money" "710 East Green in Bensenville"? I was watching the Blues Brothers with my boys the other day and had a field day pointing out some old landmarks, in particular the Magikist Lips on the highway.

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jan 6, 2010 -> 10:04 AM) I remember Mike Ditka being the guest speaker at my older brother's Letterman Dinner at York High School in 1964. I remember the Early Show (an afternoon movie on channel 2). I remember when all there was to watch on TV were channel 2, 5, 7 and 9 (and it was all black and white). I remember when Bob Bell who played Bozo played Andy Starr (an old guy who ran a movie theater and showed Three Stooges shorts). I remember Shock Theater hosted by Marvin on Saturday nights. I remember when candy bars were a nickel. I take it your family moved from Maywood to Elmhurst? That is pretty impressive about 2, 5, 7 and 9. For a while, my girlfriend (now wife) and I had no cable, which took me back to my youth of 2, 5, 7, 9, 11, 26, 32 and 50 (not counting univision and telemundo). It was so liberating. I really only cared about 9 and 26 (Sox games) and could survive listening to the other games on radio. Granted, Rooney was still doing PBP. I am certain I would be on the phone with the cable company fast if I had to listen to Farmer for even a week.

QUOTE (G&T @ Jan 5, 2010 -> 01:14 PM) Recently? NBC bought those right more than 10 years ago I think, you old curmudgeon But I remember WGN running it multiple times a night. God that was annoying. It's amazing what Fox has become after its start as a fuzzy station in my cable-less world along with Channel 50 (WPWR). Sorry, time got blurry once I started having kids a few years back. WPWR and MeTV (they aren't the same, are they) have a lot of similarities to the old WFLD but I don't watch much anymore so it is not the same. BTW, whoever said HUdson 3-2700 really brought a smile to my face.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jan 5, 2010 -> 10:53 AM) I never fulfilled my dream of playing the grand prize game on Bozo. At one point in time, the wait list just to be in the audience was years long. We tried to get the last Bozo (Joey D'Auria) to be the entertainment at my company holiday party one year but his agent said he is not allowed to reprise the role due to some conflict with the guy who owns the bozo show rights. Sad day when it went off the air.
