  1. QUOTE (Real @ Mar 16, 2010 -> 11:57 PM) If you're saying Mark's 301 is impressive, look at Jamie Moyer's 315, keep in mind that a lot of guys pitched for different teams in that decade Ugh! I totally missed the combined starts. With that said, Moyer was a full timer from the very start of the decade whereas Buerhle only had 6 starts in 2000 and did not become a starter full time until the 2001 season. Nonetheless, at Moyer's age, we still must acknowledge how impressive a decade it was for him.
  2. QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 16, 2010 -> 07:42 PM) http://www.sporcle.com/games/deej/pitching2000 Look who's #1 with 301. What is even more amazing is how the next best total is 30 starts behind, or basically one whole season. Very impressive.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 16, 2010 -> 03:13 PM) Only 2 I'd note are Dolsi and Nunez, just because they're officially out of the race for the bullpen spot. Any significance to the 40 man roster being at 39?
  4. QUOTE (since56 @ Mar 12, 2010 -> 06:50 PM) Bullpens are always worrisome. Dotel and Linebrink last year? Stomach ulcer time. Jenks hasn't been the same for about a year and a half now. He has been awful so far this spring. Putz is coming off injury any hard thrower coming off injury is to be questioned until he proves he can do it again. All teams have question marks in the pen. It is the nature of it. Most of those guys were not good enough to make it as starters so they are second tier pitchers or reclamation projects or no control hard throwers. Our pen could go either way and most guys will have good and bad outings. Ozzie and Cooper will have to place the right guy in the right spot at the right time for success. We gotta play em one day at a time. I'm just happy to be here. Hope I can help the ball club. I just want to give it my best shot and the good lord willing, things will work out.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 12, 2010 -> 05:38 PM) 2006-2007 combined, 0.83 WHIP, 1.86 ERA, 76 saves, 93 k's in 75 innings. He had a 317 OPS+ in 2007. Thanks. Not bad at all.
  6. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 12, 2010 -> 05:11 PM) Not to mention so far.. it seems he got his velocity back and has looked really, really sharp in these games. If this continues, he'll probably be as comfortable for fans to see get outs as Thornton is. Wasn't Putz the guy who was lights out in Seattle a couple years back and has a decent relationship with Thornton?
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 12, 2010 -> 04:41 PM) A twisted ankle that this time of year isn't a big deal. Let him rest it out. Hopefully that is all that it is. Tell that to Robin Ventura.
  8. QUOTE (rockren @ Mar 12, 2010 -> 12:51 AM) I just watched it thanks to my DVR... Franks represented himself with class as always. I've always been proud to call him my favorite baseball player growing up and am just as proud today to say he's why I'm a WSox fan. You know, for years I was pretty disappointed in the way Frank handled himself publicly. As great a hitter as he was, I thought he cared way too much about his numbers and really didn't at least try to make his defense a little closer to average. I also never saw him as a selfless leader of his teams. With that said, that interview showed a man who has made tremendous strides in life with great perspective. He could have justifiably been upset that he was robbed of the MVP in 2000 or spoken out against other major leaguers that used PEDs. Rather, without rattling off stats, he just lets his career speak for itself. He has grown up tremendously and seems at peace with his career, the fans, and the organization that drafted him. I also think his assessment of the typical fans on the north side was spot on and showed no hint of spite. His maturity and dignity strikes me as that of a true hall of famer.
  9. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 11, 2010 -> 08:26 AM) Yes, if only kenny had waited 24 hours longer so you could have written the mediocre range of "between pearl harbor day and christmas" because, as we all know, that has some sort of significance. if kenny had only waited four months longer, he would've acquired TWO between st. patricks day and Easter...how about that! Funny you noted that. I was reading it and just shook my head at how some writers can take a great article and force some really ridiculous thought like that into the mix. Still a nice article, otherwise.
  10. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 10, 2010 -> 02:22 PM) Its on ALL THE TIME at my house Literally?
  11. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Mar 3, 2010 -> 09:49 AM) That's what she said http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-wf2pP7T0Y
  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 07:40 PM) Question: My girlfriend's car doesn't start today in the parking lot of the grocery store. Previously I had sent her a text saying "How did it go today at the salon? (she is a hair dresser) I want to rent Couple's Retreat. I have some shrimp in the freezer I could bring over, and I have your sunglasses case I need to bring over to you. (I bought it for her) Do you want me to rent the movie and we'll make a night of it?" Like an hour later she texts me back saying "Sorry. My truck isn't starting. I don't have time for a movie." I was like wtf is this? Like I knew she was stranded in the parking lot and still sent her this text to make her day worse or something. But I figured, hey, she's stranded with her kids and frustrated, I won't be a jerk. So I text back and write "Ok. May I do anything to help?" She writes back "No thank you. Lissa is on her way to pick us up now." Again, I am like wtf? She's like rubbing it in that I am not there to pick them up when I wasn't even aware this had happened. At this point, I am thinking, s***, I guess it was my fault that her truck broke down. But no, I will call her, make sure she is alright, etc. So I call, and ask if she is alright, and she says yes. So I say "What is with the attitude? I didn't know your truck was broken down. Is there anything I can do to help? I wouldn't have asked you if you wanted to watch a movie if I knew you were currently stranded in the parking lot." She was all frustrated, crabby, and crying, and basically said she didn't want to talk to me then and would call me back when she had settled down. So my question is, how does one handle this? I don't feel like I did anything wrong, but I feel that because I am always so nice and helpful to her that she tries to dump s*** on me when she is upset. I don't feel like it is a good idea to allow her to think she can do that. What should my next move be? Should I just let it go? Or should I ignore her calls and texts for a bit, just to show my displeasure? This relationship is a few months old, and we were friends before that for about 5 months. I am just trying to set the ground rules here at a reasonable level, so I don't have to deal with a ton of bs and nonsense down the road... As a married man that occasionally knows when to avoid further argument, I think the answer to the question of what should you do is to let it go. Call up some friends and go out to a bar to watch a game or something to that effect. She was having a rough day and did not need to deal with anything else. She acted a little off, but you also pushed when you might have been better off leaving her alone for a bit. In a day or so, give her a holler and don't even bring up what happened other than in passing, like "hey, btw, is your truck back in business?" Either she will get all s***ty with you about it again (then you know she is nuts) or she doesn't (she is just nuts like most women); even better, she feels bad that she treated you so poorly, comes to your place and you go at it like rabbits (still probably nuts, but who cares?).
  13. Manny starting to campaign for 2011 already... http://sports.espn.go.com/los-angeles/mlb/...tory?id=4935675 Another fun quote to add to his legacy.... "From the waist down, I feel 15, from the neck up, I feel 43. I feel good." I wonder how old his torso feels?
  14. It doesn't surprise me in the least bit. Schneider has been with the team as far back as I can remember. Although he does not seem to take care of his own health, he always seems to be at the cutting edge of keeping guys in shape and really attacking injuries when they do happen.I recall hearing players are afraid to even admit an injury because they know Herm will get them in intense rehab as soon as possible and continue to target the problem area long after the injury has supposedly been cured. He is more inclined to use intense strengthening exercises to cure an injury versus excessive rest and medicine.
  15. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 02:59 PM) Given that I was only 7 years old at the time I knew very little about the 1994 team so I recently looked up the standings. The Sox were only a single game up in the division and 3.5 games up in the wild card and tied for the 3rd best record in baseball on August 10th, the Yankees and their 6 hitters with an .800+ OPS had the best record in the AL. The way Sox fans talk about this team I just assumed they were way up in the division and held the best record in the AL. Regardless of how incredible people think that team was they were barely holding on to a playoff spot with the absolutely stacked (7 hitters with an .800+ OPS) Indians right on their ass and 2 months to go, I am now convinced that Sox fans are delusional. Sorry for the delayed response but I will have to interject here. That was definitely the best White Sox team I have ever seen, no matter how hot memorable and special the 2005 team was. I will agree that the Expos were performing on a level that had not been seen in ages so who knows how the series turns out. However, with respect to the AL, I don't care what the standings were or how many/few games up the Sox were when the strike hit. The Indians and Yankees may have had stacked lineups, but the White Sox were clearly the class of the AL. They just came off a tough loss in the ALCS and responded by improving what was an average offense to go along with a solid defense and a phenomenal staff. The Indians did not have the pitching to keep pace over the long haul and the Yankees better record meant absolutely nothing. The Yankees were still learning what it takes to be a champion. This has nothing to do with delusions.
  16. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 11:32 AM) Agreed, i don't think a press conference on the day Pitchers and Catchers report means anything more then a press conference on the day that Pitchers and Catchers report. On that note, is it Kenny's style to allude to a conversation about a player that signs with someone other than the Sox? He will bark with disgruntled ex-players in the press, but the subject matter of his media dialogue is almost exclusively the White Sox and their players, not the opposition. I have a hunch the Sox have been kicking the tires on Damon for a lot longer than anyone realizes. I wouldn't be surprised if Damon/Boras suppressed an early offer from the Sox that they thought was too low and started the public campaign to go to Detroit right around that time. There are so many scenarios we can imagine, but I think all three players in this game have been holding the most important cards very close to the vest and leaked a lot of misinformation for strategic purposes only.
  17. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 04:40 PM) I don't know what the discount rate, but I assume it would be 7 to 8%. Not a bad assumption, and I believe you are correct that he would probably get paid some amount like $3MM in 2010, with another $X.X million deferred. The total sum, discounted back to today is roughly $4.5MM.
  18. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 04:35 PM) So I assume the PV value is actually like a present value calculation , so maybe he gets 6M, but a few of the million are in deferred payments for the next 5 or something? Exactly. Discount the individual cash payments back to the start date of the contract to get the net present value. Not sure what percentage you would use, though.
  19. QUOTE (Chisox88 @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 03:59 PM) http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/news/story?id=4921497 Bud Selig opposes the Cubs ticket surcharge. Article mentions Selig's opposition to charging extra for games that do not include the Cubs. Now that makes more sense. Surcharge for games versus the Cubs but not between other teams. Sounds like a reasonable compromise to me.
  20. So they switch to FM and spin it as better sound quality, etc. It limits the number of people that can get a broadcast for free so instead they have to pay to get broadcasts via some other medium such as internet or whatever. Sounds like the early days of Sportsvision to me.
  21. QUOTE (gatnom @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 11:56 AM) I just don't think it's a very good idea to get worse at any position unless you have a legitimate reason (i.e. not being able to afford good players). Even if you think Thome is declining and due for a big drop off, signing him for Mark Kotsay money is a low-risk move. Overall I haven't been a big fan of Kenny's off season, but with exception to the decision not to sign Thome, I can understand why he did what he did due to money constraints. Maybe you got worse at DH but you also improved your combined production from 2nd and third base and possibly improved the overall IF defense in the process. Also, by removing Dye from the OF and making the big assumption that Q stays healthy, you have a much improved OF defense as well (other than arm strength, Pierre is much better than Pods, too). I think too many of us are so focused on the DH quandry that we are overlooking the benefits this improved defense will provide, even if on paper they appear to weaken the offense.
  22. QUOTE (gatnom @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 11:47 AM) You don't find it at all annoying that we could have at least had as good of a DH as we had last year for less than or equal to the amount we are paying Mark Kotsay? Not at all. While I do not agree 100% with the pieces currently in place to fill the DH role, I do like the idea of not tying up a roster spot with an overwhelmingly one dimensional player. It is one thing to have Big Frank in his prime exclusively play DH (although he could fill in at first when necessary) but it is an entirely different situation where your DH sits through the entire interleague schedule because you are afraid he will get hurt playing the field. I am glad Thome played for the Sox and contributed some big moments, but I do not lament his absence on the 2010 roster. With that said, I would love to see the Sox pick up a quality hitter who will work the count to fill in a DH and elsewhere during the season.
  23. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 10:50 AM) Not as good as "I don't want his face lookin at that face when he's throwing my dice... Put him in the f***in bathroom..." Great stuff. I have a feeling there are going to be a lot of rotating DHs in the bathroom by midseason.
  24. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 10:35 AM) No. It was on HDNet. Unedited. try this for fun http://blogs.amctv.com/movie-blog/2010/02/...ltimate-fan.php I am ashamed to say I missed one.
  25. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 09:58 AM) Just watched that recently. Still as good as the 1st time I saw it. On AMC, right? I have been watching as well. I can't believe it is 20 years old already. I still remember seeing it on the big screen.
