I remember when Santa filled my stocking with fresh citrus, nuts and some chocolate candy and left one really cool toy under the tree to go with it. I remember something that thankfully came back recently...It's a Wonderful Life was on once a year, only on Christmas Eve. If you missed it, wait 'til next year. Then, a few years back, it was getting like a TBS movie of being played ad nauseum. Thankfully, NBC (I think) bought the rights and went back to X-Mas Eve only. I remember when WGN would put together a great old movie lineup for New Year's Day and would have Family Classics with Frazier Thomas on Sundays. I remember Bozo and Ray Rayner. I remember when FOX was WFLD Chicago 32 and would show reruns of Laurel & Hardy, The Little Rascals, and Blondie. I remember when Ditka coached the Bears and was a god. I remember when Ditka wrestled God and won. I remember when Ditka beat Bill Brasky downing shots. I remember when the Russians were our enemy and Bin Laden was our friend.

QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 4, 2010 -> 07:22 PM) We use to start in early August and give a three week break and a lot more days off. The Texas legislation got involved and the earliest start date is now around August 25, so we shortened some vacations. Letters galore skipped with that post.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 30, 2009 -> 12:57 PM) Really gotta like seeing another franchise starting to come apart after signing him. Quality season overall for Favre, though.

QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Dec 29, 2009 -> 06:27 PM) What about some of those knuckleheads from our bullpen in 2007, there were many Prinz (sp) and other, anybody remember any of those no names. They all should be on the list. Aardsma, Dewon Day, Bukvich, Sisco (can't recall if he made an appearance that year), MacDougal, Wasserman, etc. My goodness was that a bad bullpen!

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 29, 2009 -> 02:22 PM) You gotta like Brett Favre losing if you're anyone except an ESPN employee. Xerox the moment and post it for all to see.

2005 Sox Best World Series Team of the Decade?

QUOTE (1977 sox fan @ Dec 24, 2009 -> 07:43 PM) Morris no hit the sox it was his 2nd start of the year and i believe game 4 or 5 of that season not opening day I meant Sox home opener but your next post appears to debunk that as well. I could have sworn it was 4-0 no-hitter at Comiskey opening for 1984. Whatever the case, the Tigers were the team of the decade. Better than the '86 Mets and '89 A's IMO. -
QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Dec 28, 2009 -> 09:58 AM) I bet Mr. Krabs can be bought. Fo' Shizzle. That crustacean would do anything for a little green.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 26, 2009 -> 10:37 PM) Just a minute, where can you get a Krabby Patty, above the sea? Information that valuable will cost you.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 26, 2009 -> 01:35 PM) Lest ye be judged. Krabby Patties are actually really good. Wish I knew the secret formula.

2005 Sox Best World Series Team of the Decade?

QUOTE (WCSox @ Dec 24, 2009 -> 09:13 AM) Not to mention that their regular season stats were very impressive as well (tied for the league-low in ERA, hit 200 HRs, etc.). Similarly, I'd say that the '98 Yankees and '84 Tigers were tops in their respective decades. Ah, the '84 Tigers. Baseball's version of the '85 Bears. Best team ever to only win one title. I watched Jack Morris no-hit the Sox on opening day that year and knew that team was destined for greatness. Morris, Hernandez, Trammel, Whitaker, Parrish, Lemon, Gibson, Evans, etc (and special mention to Rusty Kuntz just because he has the best name ever in baseball). Just a dominant team that still stands in the memories of baseball fans to this day. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 23, 2009 -> 09:55 PM) Yep. I think the Brian Anderson defenders have gone the way of the American Indian. Alcoholic compulsive gambling?

QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Dec 22, 2009 -> 04:12 PM) What? Very simple, Xristos, or the anointed one, is the root word from which Christ is derived.

Xristos put the X in X-mas.

QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Dec 20, 2009 -> 02:05 PM) I actually like Delgado for refusing to stand for the 7th inning stretch. I think it's borderline brainwashing to have everyone stand up and "honor" our country in a forcibly-obligative manner. I actually refused to stand up for the Pledge of Alligience all throughout high school and middle school because I just didn't believe in it. I think forcing kids to say the Pledge in schools is similar to various activities kids had to do under Hitler Youth. People should not think that having a dissenting stance on our country is a bad thing. In fact, having a dissenting and nonconformist stance on our country is more patriotic than having the stance of someone who mindlessly chant "Go USA" and stand for every pledge and "God Bless USA" song like a brainwashed zombie. I wish more people was like Delgado. Good stuff.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 01:53 PM) Zoinks, don't forget about Phil! You mean Dr. Phil? He's not dead yet (but we're working on it).

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 07:50 AM) Got to watch both of them during the SNL Christmas special and I laughed way more because of the acting in the NPR skit. They did such a good job at the monotone voices and mostly stone-faced personalities. Alec Baldwin made the skit. For kicks, watch it again on Hulu but minimize the browser screen so you can only listen to it. I think it makes it even funnier for the full NPR effect.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 04:20 PM) My guess is that it is more boring junk. Loser talk, that is.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 10:34 AM) Quitting for monetary reasons seems petty. Perhaps, but supposedly he was getting a reduced share of royalties due to lack of composition credits or something like that. We've seen things like that before - starts with money and turns into hurt feelings.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 09:12 AM) ...if Dave was still in the band. Rumors circulated that he left for fiscal reasons.

Tough to forget about Oranges and Lemons. Great stuff.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 08:50 AM) Who the heck was xtc? Very disappointed in your amnesia of a great band. I take it you were not a fan of alternative music when it was truly alternative (pre-Nirvana/Q101)?

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 08:21 PM) Going to eat some ridiculously hot Panang curry this evening. Not sure what that makes me, other than maybe a masochist. Fire in the hole!

Karaoke is one of my favorite past times.

QUOTE (Tex @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 09:10 PM) Overall, so far, I like teaching. I think I will like it more starting Friday and my three week vacation. May your three weeks be merry and bright...
