QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 12, 2009 -> 03:02 PM) We could bug the youngins and quote obscure Breakfast Club references all day. Of course, we don't have to do it out in the street. We can runaway and we can go to the ocean, we can go to the country, we can go to the mountains. we could go to Israel, Africa.. . . Afghanistan. . . ?. . . Nice. Anyone ever try to tape your buns together?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 03:30 PM) Nicknames happen. Give him a chance to play and show his personality. How about Pokey, I kind of like Pokey.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 12:57 PM) Olivo as a backup catcher? Coco Crisp in CF? Thoughts? I think Guillen had a problem with Olivo but I can not recall for certain. The guy still has a gun and would be a great defensive replacement late in games but I do not see it happening. I really would love to see Flowers get another year of practice down in the minors rather than be a DH/C/PH all season. Supposedly Buddy Bell has made some great strides in improving the minor league system from a player development standpoint and Flowers' big strides as a catcher are part of the early results.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 04:16 PM) Lemme tell you the guy was always a great drummer, and held his own on vocals and writing until Hackett left. Maybe I need to revisit the genesis of Genesis.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 04:07 PM) Genesis could have been up there if not for the 1980s. How can anyone enjoy the sound of Phil Collins?

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 03:57 PM) ABBA will be high in the results. Basie, Bix Beiderbecke and big bands with bass and brass are more my style

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 01:44 PM) Keep pulling you back in! Best line from the worst Godfather. Loved I and II (especially the late John Cazale as Fredo). Liked III okay but Sofia Coppola really stole the show in the worst way.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 01:35 PM) I had the pleasure of doing that with the infamous McDonald's thread (aka Grimace ate my balls) a while back. I was scared of us. Just when I thought I was out...

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 09:46 AM) 83. He's actually one of the most important figures in early baseball history. I learned a lot about him from a class I took in college. I might be mistaken, but wasn't he even more instrumental in segregation of the major leagues than Judge Landis?

Every once in a while, we get a rainy Halloween like this year is shaping up to be, but can not recall snow in the past 30 plus years.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Oct 25, 2009 -> 11:04 PM) Meh, Phillies and Yankees. Yawn. No kidding. I was looking for an all LA series but at least the games shouldn't keep us up too late.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 25, 2009 -> 10:04 PM) Karl constantly tells the story of Homer's game winning HBP Lenny supposedly got hurt at the plant. Oh no, not Lenny!

One other thing to consider is that most of GB's competition for the award is coming from pitchers versus position players. There is a slightly higher number of position players voting for the award versus pitchers. Many everyday players would have a hard time voting for a pitcher over a position player for any award. Along the same lines, the pitchers may be more inclined to vote for a pitcher, but with more competition, the ROY pitcher candidates split the pitching vote. Thus, GB has an advantage in the Sportin' News' vote.

QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 16, 2009 -> 06:16 PM) My grandma doesn't know what the internet is. My grandpa turns 97 in a few days and is actually pretty in tune with the internet and frequently sends email. To make it to 97 and be as alert as he is, you pretty much have to embrace the changes around you.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 16, 2009 -> 10:59 AM) Interesting to see a hitting coach *gasp* actually be held accountable when his team doesn't hit! It's too bad he'll end up with the Cubs and not with the Sox. Even despite his teams struggles this year, Jaramillo has a long record of very good hitting teams, and is respected around baseball as being really good at what he does. Neither of those thoughts could be put in the same paragraph as Greg Walker, who would have been fired years ago if we had the same standard for a hitting coach that they do in Texas. Just because there is no tangible or proven way to evaluate a hitting coach and how important/not important he is doesn't mean he shouldn't be fired if the hitting goes south, although I'm not even sure I'd have fired Jaramillo since he's had such a long record of excellence there before this year. Well, he wasn't fired so much as encouraged to leave via a one year extension. He just felt he deserved more.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 16, 2009 -> 11:13 AM) wow, I never thought I would finally meet the one person in the world with an email account that doesnt get forwards/spam/junkmail sent to them. One thing I do find helpful to end these types of emails is to go to Snopes, fact check the message and paste the correct information into a reply just to whoever sent it to you. Include a very polite but pointed message letting them know you appreciate them thinking of you but emails like this are typically incorrect 99.9% of the time and only serve to cause all the problems already articulated in this thread. Let them know you are interested in hearing about them rather than some Kenyan boy born with a goat's tail and see if they want to get together and catch up. People really appreciate the tip and change their habits accordingly. Otherwise, if you hate the person, do the fact check, paste in a reply, but do a "reply all" and embarrass them publicly for spreading false information, being too stupid to realize it, and burdening their friends not only with wasted time and a clogged inbox, but potentially more spam via emailing lists. You will be spreading the message to more people, stopping that particular person from ever sending anything to anyone again, and, since you hate them anyway, you will never have to speak with them again. Both options have been very effective for me.
