  1. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Apr 24, 2007 -> 07:10 PM) What is it? Comcast has the Bulls Vs. Miami on. What channel are the Sox on?
  2. QUOTE(G&T @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 02:18 PM) Inge dropped one on the transfer earlier this game and it was an out. There's nothing to complain about. 1-2-3 for Garland. I am not complaining.
  3. If I was a Tiger fan, I would be very ticked about that call after Erstad got away with one a few innings ago.
  4. I agree with him. Venom aside, he is right on these two points: The off-season pitching moves were bad trades and the pitching staff is bad. 4th place is not as unlikely.
  5. Chet Coppock is alive? Hmmm, who knew? The cottan-candy guy and the parking lot attendant are about 6 notches above ya, there Chet. The press are there for free, they eat for free, park for free. Most people on here are better writers.
  6. This friggin site is amazing. The only way to beat someone to the punch here is to post the news before it happens.
  7. In a recent poll of 80k sports fans, the Sox ranked #7 in MLB. The Cubs ranked #29. Just in Chicago it was Sox (#28 in all sports), Bulls(#39), Bears(#50), Cubs (#98) and then Blackhawks (#118). Each respondent was asked to rank the teams in the following categories. BNG (Bang for the Buck): Revenues directly from fans divided by wins in the past three years FRL (Fan Relations): Ease of access to players, coaches & management OWN (Ownership): Honesty; loyalty to players and city AFF (Affordability): Price of tickets, parking and concessions STD (Stadium Experience): Friendliness of environment; quality of game-day promotions PLA (Players): Effort on the field; likability off it CCH (Coach/Manager): Strong on-field leadership TTR (Title Track): Titles already won or expected -- soon The only category the Cubs did well in was the stadium experience. http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/sports...anks?year=2007
  8. I love the concept. It is great they are finally targeting north siders. But I think the execution leaves a little bit to be desired. Why play into the stereotype by reinforcing them. I would have taken a different tact.
  9. I am glad you like the bullpen. I think you are going to be seeing a lot of it. Face it, Buehrle is a pitcher who relies on his control. He doesn't blow anyone away with speed. And there were some stretches last year he wasn't doing that; stretches like the one from the all-star game to the end of the season. If Kenny could have sold him, he would have. The problem is that there were not as many GMs in the league as enthusiastic about Mark Buehrle as you might suspect. What I don't get is that if you are going to deal McCarthy, why not do it last year when you could have gotten a guy that might have won you the pennant. I had to sit and listen to how McCarthy was untouchable last season. How he was the next ace of the staff. I tell ya what, from where I was sitting, he didn't look like the next Cy Young to me.
  10. I don't get this bull s***. With all the names that a McCarthy deal was connected with, we get prospects back in return? WTF!!
  11. That means something "expected". Something we all knew was going to happen.
  12. QUOTE(kwill @ Dec 17, 2006 -> 02:18 AM) Daily Herald did an article explaining the recent trade. They obviously took quotes from Kenny and he said at one 'We are expecting to do another move very soon and it wont be to the delight of much fan fair'. To be honest thats not exactly it but close... I hope its not tradign away MB It could mean a few things. But "fan fair" means in essence 'celebration' or 'news worthy'. The way I read the quote as you have it, the pending trade will not be any big deal.
  13. QUOTE(PhilliesBuff @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 10:24 PM) Imagine if McCarthy came to the majors and laid a total egg, went to the minors and laid an egg again. Thats what Floyd felt like to us. There is no reason to believe that McCarthy won't do that. The chances of him being the next Cy Young, like so many have been treating him, are not looking all that good. If Contreras can't stay healthy and McCarthy sucks, we are the Cubs. I don't get why they do this before locking up the season ticket money.
  14. Roto is guessing he will fetch a two year $7.5m deal. Would anyone like to see him in black pin stripe at that price? He is coming of elbow surgery and starting throwing recently. He says he feels great. But what would you expect a free agent to say, right?
  15. What Richards said was not racism. This.... THIS is racism. Exterminate all white people.
  16. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 30, 2006 -> 02:46 PM) It's all about the homer
  17. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 30, 2006 -> 01:30 PM) Does anyone know why they started using softer woods? Didn't bats used to be made of ash? Scarce resources?
  18. I think there are a couple of other reasons it is happening. There is no batters box anymore. Most hitters today set up with their back foot on the catchers shine guard with an open stance and pitchers are throwing harder than they ever have. They are getting inside pitches called strikes. They are just sawing these bats off.
  19. Let me start by saying the I am not advocating the introduction of aluminum bats. But something needs to happen with the bats to decrease the number of broken bats. I can never remember a season that had so many broken bats as this past year. Several came close to players and coaches but I also remember a few into the stands. It is just dumb luck that someone hasn't gotten hurt or worse. MLB should address this with manufacturers. Thicker handles? I don't know. But something should be done before a player, or God forbid, a fan in the stands gets hurt. Discuss...
  20. I will be in Cleveland tonight and was planning on going to the game. Those 14 runs last night kinda have me second guessing. Why go to the game to watch an ass whoopin.
