QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 02:58 PM) He paying you to endorse or something? The best people on Earth don't need to pay people to endorse them. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 02:57 PM) Thats because that is what is needed in the KC franchise. Since 2000, they have 463-671. I would say major changes are needed, basically everywhere. Over that same stretch, the Sox find themselves 100 games over .500, at 617-517. Do the Sox need a change in scouting and the farm system, absolutely. They won't be able to survive without one. However, there already have been shakeups in the scouting department, and Williams said things will change. A month to judge the results isn't fair. Shakeups in the scouting department? Ha. Nothing has truly changed.

I hate that Chemistry s***.
-
Oh yeah. That's what I was talking about. Also: KW > Beane and KW = Theo and KW = Schuerholz.
-
Right. That's exactly what I was talking about. Thanks for that.
-
Not really in the farm system, no. The goal in KC is to build a farm system that can sustain the organization, like Atlanta. Here? Not so much.
-
It should be pointed out that Moore is rebuilding the entire organization with new scouts, new staff, new almost everything. They're starting, essentially, from scratch after all the damage done since Schuerholz left KC whereas we have had the same terrible approach for a long time with no results or changes.
-
What the hell do they need a building THAT big for? What does anyone need a building THAT big for?
-
Not the Dubai building. The Spire. Damn, I like the Dubai building.

Piece of s***.

QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 12:51 PM) rumors on radio out here are suggesting indians are going to send ben francisco for octavio dotel. also, cliff lee was demoted. That's probably why they picked up Dotel. Moore is very shrewd and handsome.
-
I don't think I'd have given him such a deal but it's turned out well so far, and I kindly defer to Moore as he rebuilds that entire organization.

QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 01:31 PM) Meche is a 29-year-old, seven-year vet with a career 4.52 ERA. For the sake of Royals fans, I hope that you're right. But I don't think that you are. Meche's career has always been plagued by injuries, which has been his problem and resulted in inconsistencies moreso than his talent.
-
There are big differences. Buehrle wanted to stay and is known as a very good pitcher. Meche has always had potential but the Royal (ex-Brave) scouts said, "Meche is good. No one else knows it. Let's get him!" Meche was shrewd. Buehrle was fortunate. KW gets credit from me for Buehrle, but not much. I doubt Meche goes back to being bad next year. He's a good pitcher who's finally found it in KC with Moore. As all the scouts said while the pundits laughed.
-
PS: Let's not cite a five-game series as evidence of anything.
-
Yeah, Moore and his scouts did a great job on Meche. He's so handsome!

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 11:15 AM) I HATE SCOTT PODDEDNIK! But I realize that there is something to the argument that they win with him. I do not know what it is. I find it funny that they are playing pretty well right now and have been for the last month due to the pen being some what serviceable and having a lead-off hitter that is adequete (Owens). Next year I think the Opening Day outfield will be Pods, Rowand and Dye with Owens and Erstad as platoon guys. The problem with this team was OG and KW fell in love with Erstad and rushed Pods back. If Anderson was given the CF job and he held it Erstad would have played less and been available to replace Pods by he playing a less stressful LF as oppossed to CF. This was an organizational move that blew up in their face which was compunded and more the cause of the season going down the tubes by the horrendous bullpen. The line-up's inability to score runs for the entire month of June doomed this season. Should we have been only 8 back I would think we had a chance. Why we coudn't beat the NL, I do know. Who would Owens and Erstad platoon with? Erstad-Konerko? Erstad-Dye? Owens-Dye? Erstad-Rowand? Owens-Rowand? 'Cause you can't platoon two lefties, and I doubt Rowand'll accept a platoon position. So, no, I don't think that'll work.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 10:34 AM) No one played Baseball Stars? Every batter on the American Dreams was like facing Barry Bonds in his prime. Natural prime or unnatural prime?

No trades ? Predictions ?

QUOTE(michelangelosmonkey @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 10:15 AM) Actually I think the 2004 team was a very good team. You just lost your two best players for most of the season...and still they finished 2nd only 9 games back. If Mags and Thomas had been healthy all year?? But I just went back and looked at that team and saw Rowands numbers....900 OPS for that season with great defense. .900 OPS for the Phillies for this season. Sandwiched in between are two .700 OPS seasons. That's baseball I guess. You make a run when your health is good and your Rowands are having their .900 OPS seasons. "Only" nine games back? In the Comedy Central? Ha! They weren't a good team. Not completely terrible, but definitely not good. -
I'm going to have my coffin laced with anthrax.

From what he's said, he wants a more long-term deal because it's his last big contract. Personally, I wouldn't give him more than two, and I don't think he'll be worth as much as he'll want.
-
Dye will want too many years and money. And Podsednik? Oh, no no no no no. I've been saying Don't be surprised if they're back! for awhile. I've meant it more as a crack about the organization but it seems they're willing to live up to it.

Mariners Looking at Dye; Sox Looking at Otsuka
Gregory Pratt replied to CWSGuy406's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
I'd take a risk on him for little of anything but nothing much more than that, so no, I wouldn't wind up dealing for him because Texas will want something significant. -
Mariners Scouting Sox Starters

I've been asking for us to deal Garland for a boatload since last season, too. This is a very beautiful series of events, though. -
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 10:53 PM) Greg Maddux was pretty awful in 1987 when he was 21, and I don't think anyone would compare Floyd's career to his. Floyd is a power pitcher, Garland is not. Garland was 20 when he put up the above numbers. Floyd is 24 and getting worse. When he came up when he was 21 he did alright. His first game he gave up 1 run in 7 innings. His given up 92 runs his last 90 innings. Even the 2007 version of Jose Contreras hasn't been that bad. I concur.

Schilling Has Diarrhea of the Mouth ... Again
Gregory Pratt replied to Greg The Bull Luzinski's topic in The Diamond Club
HGH is still as big a scourge on baseball right now as steroids were in the 90s. IMO.
