  1. QUOTE(stretchstretch @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 09:55 PM) With the sickening feeling I took to bed last night after that heartbreaking loss, I spent some time today reflecting upon how many things fell into place last year and how spending nearly a month's pay to fly in from the west coast and take my father to games 1&2 of the WS brought memories I'll take to my grave. I then stepped back and realized how unrealistic it is of me to expect a repeat of next year, with record setting 1-run wins, a pitching staff all having simultaneous career years, and almost perfect chemistry in the clubhouse, when considering how difficult it is simply to make the playoffs two years in a row, for anybody except the one team spending $250M per year. Ozzie makes a lot of mistakes, players go through highs and lows throughout the season, and the GMs moves don't always pan out (the gamble on Thome that no one else would take paid in spades, Vasquez did not). All in all we're still right in it, MN still has to play a month of baseball better than us, and there are about 4 very real possible outcomes (though all not equally probably), including MN taking the division, us taking the division, or Detroit not even making the playoffs. There's going to be moments of confidence and despair in the coming month, but I have to be patient and not over react because we might just win the WC by a 1/2 game and then win three straight series. No one on this site believed last Sept 25th that we were going to make the playoffs (and the Sox gave them every reason to feel that way), let alone go 11-1 through Bos, LAA, and Hous.......... Detroit's 10 game lead shrank to 5.5 in a few days, our lead over MN evaporated in days, we both face Bos, NY, Det, Oak, and LAA, no one has a clue how this crazy thing might go??? This was a great post to read and it somewhat backs up what I am going to say. A fan is a fan no matter where their team finishes. A true fan lives and dies with their team. Every loss this year is just as tough for me to take as it was 3 years ago. When the Sox lose no one even thinks about talking to me because they know I'll be mad. I'd love to see the Sox repeat but as a fan of baseball in general I know that it is very hard and near impossible. With the team that is put together I want a playoff berth but if it doesn't happen then it doesn't happen then I'll sit in the winter and watch for the moves that KW will make and still think that this team is a contender and sit back and watch my team battle out 29 other teams to be called the best team in baseball.
  2. QUOTE(KJean @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 12:47 AM) August 10th, 2006 vs NYY Anyone else think this picture looks very strange?
  3. That is incredible, I synced it with the real song and it was just incredible. Great work!
  4. How many times can Joey Cora get so lucky?
  5. alright AJ taking that high fastball the other way.
  6. You aren't a true Sox fan if you would rather have the Tigers win.
  7. Barrett had his appeal heard this morning but no answer yet.
  8. With the Sox facing two lefties this weekend do any of you think we'll see Pablo in the starting line-up one of those games with Pods struggling right now? I'm not too confident in Cincy and Freddy pitching tonight. If he manages to not give up the long ball I don't think the Reds will be able to manufacture many runs so the Sox should be able to win.
  9. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 02:30 PM) Has anyone else noticed just how difficult it is to watch the Cubs and root FOR them? Yeah I told my buddy who is a cub fan the same thing. It's pretty painful, the first inning they get Pierre on first with no one out and he doesn't even advance to third let alone score.
  10. Rusch done after 1 2/3 innings. Wow I couldn't imagine rooting for this team for longer than these three games.
  11. I wouldn't really mind seeing Pablo play a few days in a row but his defense is the only thing that scares me when he's out there. But the way he's hitting right now he might let in a run but he'll score or knock in two runs. I just love watching Pablo play because he goes out there and plays like he's in little league, he just has fun.
  12. I have to say I'm rooting for the cubs this weekend. I hate the cubs but the Tigers' record means more than the Cubs' record.
  13. I think this DL stint will help Politte just like it helped Crede last season. I'm not expecting a Crede type of turnaround but if he improves his numbers a little bit he'll help out that bullpen.
  14. I think that Garland pitched real well last night. Again if the outfield made those plays then I think Jon would have gone longer. This outing was definitely a positive one and one for Jon to build on.
  15. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 08:20 AM) I haven't read anything on ESPN or watched any TV on it, but from what I've heard things have gone from possibly a metal plate in the head, toothless with mangled knees to lost 2 teeth, knees are fine and he'll be released in 3-5 days and is expected to be able to play in 7 weeks. Pretty amazing if true. Wow that is incredible if it is true. I mean to go from having a metal plate in your head and pretty much not being able to play football to being able to play in 7 weeks is incredible.
  16. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 02:01 PM) Catcher...the one position I could never play and I got a lot of respect for anyone that does play it. Being a lefty helped, but us pitchers would catch each other from time to time and I had a hell of a time with it. One time my dumb self missed a ball and got drilled in the chest (knocked the wind right out of me). I love catching now but it does take a big toll on the body after a game. Eventhough I play in rec leagues my dad coaches my team and he'll have me catch the entire game eventhough we're playing for nothing. After a game I have a bag of ice on each knee and I sit in a massage chair and don't get up for atleast a half hour. But I love catching it really makes you feel involved in the game and I have almost total control of what is coming. My best moment is when I caught a no-no freshman year for this kid who was our worst pitcher, I called the entire game myself and it felt so good to have that final out recorded and then know that I've caught a no hitter.
  17. Growing up I played so many different positions until I got to about 6th or 7th grade then I mostly played 1B but then my 8th grade year my team didn't have a catcher so I jumped in there and liked it a lot. So Freshman Year I tried out as a catcher and made the team and we were real good, then the next year I tried out for the first two days but quit after realizing that if I made the team it would probably be my last year on a high school team and I wouldn't play very much so I thought it wasn't worth it. I still play in local rec leagues and play just for fun with my friends. I was a pretty good player in High School and middle school. In Middle School I hit close to .400 because I didn't play travel baseball, and once I got to high school the AVG went down a bit because it was a big change of pace from in-house leagues to high school.
  18. Remember when Greg Maddux pitched at the Cell and he wouldn't get a single call that he would usually get. If a pitcher has been in the league long enough and has earned the respect of Umpires he should get some of the close calls. I mean there are some instances where Thome will take a pitch that I swear is a strike and it will be called a ball.
  19. Wow there are a lot of those that I don't agree with. As for there being no Sox combos in there I can kind of see it but the staff is so much better as 5 guys than just 2 of them. How many teams can say that they have 6 quality starters?
  20. QUOTE(iWiN4PreP @ Apr 2, 2006 -> 09:45 PM) I did not like "dont stop believing" as the intro music. that annoyed me. Yeah I agree not the greatest intro music.
  21. If it were true they would just get rid of the Cubs all together.
