Game Thread: White Sox (62-46) @ Baltimore (35-73) 6:05pm CDT
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 08:12 PM) Not a great start there, Sale. You would think Ozzie would have brought him into a less stressful situation. I think it's a bit early to call him "the left-handed Black Jack McDowell." Well, he throws harder than McDowell. Now, if he could just locate it somewhere un-awful.

You can see that our offense really scares this guy. He's real timid because of our fearsome collection of hitters.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 07:46 PM) Wow, Kotsay with just a terrible jump on that grounder. HE IS SO SLOW! I'm really annoyed with the terrible approach so many of our hitters have tonight. Well, you can't say that Lexi didn't take it the other way, just only 40 feet, LOL.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 02:52 PM) The baseball gods love the Twins, they hate us. Eh. Those gods gave us the coin flip in 2008, and I believe we used that to send home the playoff-challenged franchise from Minnesota.

QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 02:48 PM) So our power is out of game, best bullpen pitchers used-thanks lard a** Remember that Saturday afternoon game that he blew up here last year, at the end of July? That was a devastating one, too. One thing I've considered is that for the last 1 1/2 years . . . Bobby sucks.

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 02:45 PM) Bobby may not blow the MOST saves, but every time it seems as if the team is ready to reach another level, Bobby blows it and holds them back. Yes.

How can an actual MLB manager continue to justify playing time for Mar
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 10:19 PM) If you have no other options, it's one thing. It's the fact that Ozzie seems to do this when there are better options. That's what drives a lot of people crazy. I think it's also Ozzie's tendency to overuse guys who could be nice contributing role-players. Mackowiak would have been an excellent reserve; Kotsay is a very good pinch-hitter and solid with the glove at first base. Hell, even Erstad and Wise could've been useful as extra outfielders. But, instead, Ozzie runs these guys out there constantly because they're "dependable" -- and they're awful. In the past, maybe that was Kenny's fault for affording no better options. This year, Ozzie gets more of the blame because he wanted a rotating DH (for the record, I understood his desire to have guys rotate through the position and was not a fan of Thome; in my view, Damon would've been very good in this role, particularly with this team) and because Viciedo is sitting on the bench when he could be getting more at-bats.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 09:56 PM) That's exactly what everyone said about Nick Swisher too. Now everyone wants him back. Believe me, I don't want Nick Swisher back. I do, however, want Gio Gonzalez back.

Lance Berkman traded to Yankees
QUOTE (clown baby @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 04:09 PM) Does anybody else really like the idea of keeping Morel long term? He's been praised for his defense, and that would be great to have an elite infield of Morel, Alexei, and Beckham. That would be spectacular. Put me down for this. It's been a pleasure to watch a good defensive team, for once. And one that puts the ball in play, too. Morel's the kind of guy we should be grooming, not trading.

Mariners (Pauley 0-2, 2.18) @ White Sox (Garcia 9-4, 4.74)
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 09:17 PM) Wow, time to pull Putz. Thornton should be in facing Kotchman anyways. Third night in a row, remember Fathom? Because he pitched in an 11-0 game. But he is up in the pen now.

Mariners (Vargas 6-5, 2.94) @ White Sox (Buehrle 9-8, 3.96)
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 09:33 PM) He hadn't pitched in a while, there's no problem getting him an inning. If anything, he was overthrowing tonight. Pet peeve. Pitch the guy when he's needed. The problem won't be tonight; it'll be if they want to use him tomorrow and therefore has to throw for the 3rd straight day -- completely needlessly.

Mariners (Vargas 6-5, 2.94) @ White Sox (Buehrle 9-8, 3.96)
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 09:30 PM) Thornton's command just hasn't been the same since that night in KC where he came up lame. So glad he pitched last night, in an 11-0 game, so that he could have this kind of sharpness tonight . . .

Mariners (Felix 7-6, 2.75) @ White Sox (Danksy 10-7, 3.37 ERA)
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 08:34 PM) Ya Kotsay hasn't been unlucky at all, he just sucks. As does WCIU. Very strange inning, no?

Brent Morel with torn labrum, surgery at season's end
Maybe it's a blessing. I've never seen him play, but based on the reports of others and his numbers, he's the kind of guy I think the Sox need more of -- solid line-drive hitter, good defender. Maybe now he'll stay put.

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE the idea of having to give Jenks another 6 weeks to get "into a groove" again -- just like at the start of the year. f*** this guy.

7/16 - Chicago vs. Twins
3 and 4 hitters. 4 pitches. 2 outs. Nice work, heart of the lineup.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 10:30 PM) Mark Kotsay grounds out like it's going out of style. He does love to pull those pitches on the outer half, doesn't he?

Sox at Washington 6-19 game thread 3:10 pm first pitch
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 12:03 PM) This is a big problem with young left handed hitters especially. They struggle against left handed pitching in the minors then get called up to the bigs at age 24, the manager sees that they couldn't hit lefties and sits them against most left handed pitchers so they never learn how to hit left handed pitching. 4 years later you have a 28 year old who couldn't hit a lefty to save his life mostly because he was never given the opportunity as a young player. If Viciedo can't hit righties then he has no future as an everyday player in the majors, it's as simple as that. And if we called him up to hit in a strict platoon with Vizquel then we're doing him an incredible disservice. Not to mention that Viciedo struggles against off-speed stuff, if I'm correct. That would be John Lannan's specialty, and he's the starter on Sunday.

With Melton and Big Frank, you get a lot of beef on the Comcast set.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 20, 2010 -> 10:42 PM) 2009 was the year of bad luck due to Mark Kotsay hitting a line drive right at Michael Cuddyer 2010 was the year of bad luck due to AJP hitting a ground rule double And an idea was born in the mind of Ozzie Guillen: "I have found a great DH. I will bat him 5th next year."
