Official 2009-2010 NFL Thread
Friend of Nordhagen replied to rangercal's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 20, 2009 -> 03:31 PM) This Bears team is pretty awful This might be the year that finally gets Ron Turner -- the Greg Walker of offensive coordinators -- fired. -
QUOTE (Stocking @ Sep 20, 2009 -> 03:29 PM) Dye is just awwwweful I hope, after the year, that we find out Jermaine had some kind of terrible injury. Otherwise, I'll have to conclude that he was just a big fat baby. Scuffling before Rios? Sure. Completely went into the tank afterwards? Oh, yeah. Bye.
-
QUOTE (tommy @ Sep 20, 2009 -> 03:28 PM) Loaded for Jermaine bottom 8th, 2 out. Anyone still watching? Bye, Jermaine. It was a fun 5 years.
-
QUOTE (joeynach @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 06:36 PM) He will go somewhere else and do the same thing next year, post some really nice 1st half numbers, like hit .300 with 23 HR's, then completely fall off the universe in the second half. Its a basic guarantee, and some ppl on this site will b**** and moan during his good first half about why did we get rid of him and blah blah u know the story. And at the end of the year he will slump to pretty bad numbers. That'll especially happen if his new team acquires Alex Rios, Jermaine wonders about his next contract and therefore subsequently falls to pieces like a Little Leaguer.

Spotty bullpen, dormant offense, miserable defense and a loser's mentality. Yep. I think I've figured out 2009. -
Was Trading Brandon Allen a Mistake?
Friend of Nordhagen replied to Ozzie Ball's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 09:35 AM) The question about Brandon Allen begs the question of what will happen to PK. Will Konerko stay with the Sox until retirement? That might be 5 or 6 more years and if he does stay Allen had no place to play with the Sox. It would appear that Pena for Allen is not working out for the Sox, but reagrdless Allen was trade bait to some team IMO Couldn't Konerko go to DH at some point? -
QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 10:43 PM) Little game Javy! I know it may surprise folks, but he felt apart in the 6th inning, in a game on the road that mattered.
-
QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 02:40 PM) LOL, so let's look at some splits since he got traded. In Petco: 4 GS 3 Wins 24 IP 22 K 12 BB 1.88 ERA 1.17 WHIP .190 BAA Outside Of Petco: 3 GS 12 IP 13 ER 6 K 10 BB 21 Hits Allowed That's right - he's allowed 31 hits & walks in 12 IP away from Petco. Do the math - that's a WHIP ratio of worse than 2.50. We're talking worst in baseball here. Y'all know that I could probably pitch complete game shutouts at Petco, right? I had some fake minor league expert douche try to tell me that he's gonna turn into something because he added velocity. Don't talk to me. Well, that's true, but that would tend to raise a few doubts about Peavy, wouldn't it? And I LIKE the trade -- just think it's important to be consistent.

Hawk: "That's why they call it baseball!" It makes no sense, but it's 100% Hawk. -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 02:32 PM) He induces wild pitches with a runner on 3rd. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 02:22 PM) literally he did this 2 games ago, a true web gem. I didn't see that. I just would think that I would've seen more by now, particularly from a guy who struggles with some routine stuff -- you'd think he'd be a little more spectacular from time to time.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 01:48 PM) yes, the last few games are a good view of how much his range to his right has improved. He's been getting to balls in the hole that he shouldnt even be near. His throws are inconsistent, but I have seen him letting them go more often which is a good thing. he never would have made that play in the first game at the dome in April of this season. Throws are better, I agree. But his range to his right doesn't look any better to me; it's bad. Put it this way: I've yet to see him go into the hole this year and either: (1) backhand a ball, and throw to first; (2) be in front of a ball, and throw to the first; or (3) dive, reach a ball and throw to first. If you aren't able to do any of those things, it means that you're not able to range to your right in any sense of the word. Granted, I haven't seen every inning of every game, but I've seen quite a bit.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 02:13 PM) I'd rather fire Guillen than Walker. That won't happen, but I'll agree with Fathom he's been pretty horrible since the Buehrle no-hitter (of course, so have Buehrle/Dye/Konerko/Rios/Beckham/Pena/Linebrink/Dotel).... I think Ozzie has one more chance in 2010...but he will be on thin ice if he struggles early in 2011 and the team suffers with chemistry issues throughout 2010 too. We let Swisher, Vazquez and Cabrera go to improve our clubhouse, and it clearly hasn't had the ameliorative affect that KW predicted it would have on the team. Because one of the problems in the clubhouse is still the sleepy guys, like Dye. I'm not all for "fire" -- but I am for having the appearance of giving a s***, because I think that can influence other people. I'm sorry, but Jermaine has looked truly lethargic for 2 years now.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 02:00 PM) The one good thing about this complete late season meltdown is that Kenny will make more moves to right the ship. Well, he won't have the reality/excuse he's had the last few years, of being hamstrung by contracts of the very guys who've defined this team as plodding and defensively challenged. We'll see if he finally cuts bait with Dye and Thome. Konerko, with the no-trade plus his contract, probably stays. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 12:24 PM) Jose still has the stuff to be a good pitcher, you see it when he throws a high fastball by somebody at 93 or 94 as he does sometimes or when he gets somebody on a good forkball like he did Teixeira there. Just doesn't have the control to do it regularly anymore. If he could figure out the whole getting loose thing, I still think he'd have value as a reliever. -
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 07:12 PM) Mark has now given up 7 hits in three innings I think he just likes pitching from the stretch.

Alexei = 0 range

QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 06:59 PM) am i wrong in thinking beckham needs a breather or is he just struggling and thats it? I'm with you.
-
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 06:49 PM) great approach by nix - c'mon gordon Can't wait until 2010 -- when Ozzie remembers to give Beckham his next day off.

Hey Comcast, since you didn't show Cabrera's hit the first time, how about a f***ing replay?
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 06:35 PM) Rios swing is just so ugly. Between him and Dye, you have two guys swinging with no confidence. These guys redefine "race for the bottom."
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 06:35 PM) Rios swing is just so ugly. Between him and Dye, you have two guys swinging with no confidence. Maybe Dye's hatred for Rios is a poisonous well from which they both drink.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 06:33 PM) seems it wouldn't have mattered. Indeed.
