  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 09:17 PM) Wow, time to pull Putz. Thornton should be in facing Kotchman anyways. Third night in a row, remember Fathom? Because he pitched in an 11-0 game. But he is up in the pen now.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 09:33 PM) He hadn't pitched in a while, there's no problem getting him an inning. If anything, he was overthrowing tonight. Pet peeve. Pitch the guy when he's needed. The problem won't be tonight; it'll be if they want to use him tomorrow and therefore has to throw for the 3rd straight day -- completely needlessly.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 09:30 PM) Thornton's command just hasn't been the same since that night in KC where he came up lame. So glad he pitched last night, in an 11-0 game, so that he could have this kind of sharpness tonight . . .
  4. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 08:34 PM) Ya Kotsay hasn't been unlucky at all, he just sucks. As does WCIU. Very strange inning, no?
  5. Maybe it's a blessing. I've never seen him play, but based on the reports of others and his numbers, he's the kind of guy I think the Sox need more of -- solid line-drive hitter, good defender. Maybe now he'll stay put.
  6. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 18, 2010 -> 04:29 PM) Not in regards to Jenks. He really is bad. Ding.
  7. I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE the idea of having to give Jenks another 6 weeks to get "into a groove" again -- just like at the start of the year. f*** this guy.
  8. 3 and 4 hitters. 4 pitches. 2 outs. Nice work, heart of the lineup.
  9. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 10:30 PM) Mark Kotsay grounds out like it's going out of style. He does love to pull those pitches on the outer half, doesn't he?
  10. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 02:42 PM) AJ with a terrible day. "Stevie, I luuuuuv when AJ tries to pull Derek Lowe."
  11. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 12:03 PM) This is a big problem with young left handed hitters especially. They struggle against left handed pitching in the minors then get called up to the bigs at age 24, the manager sees that they couldn't hit lefties and sits them against most left handed pitchers so they never learn how to hit left handed pitching. 4 years later you have a 28 year old who couldn't hit a lefty to save his life mostly because he was never given the opportunity as a young player. If Viciedo can't hit righties then he has no future as an everyday player in the majors, it's as simple as that. And if we called him up to hit in a strict platoon with Vizquel then we're doing him an incredible disservice. Not to mention that Viciedo struggles against off-speed stuff, if I'm correct. That would be John Lannan's specialty, and he's the starter on Sunday.
  12. With Melton and Big Frank, you get a lot of beef on the Comcast set.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ May 20, 2010 -> 10:42 PM) 2009 was the year of bad luck due to Mark Kotsay hitting a line drive right at Michael Cuddyer 2010 was the year of bad luck due to AJP hitting a ground rule double And an idea was born in the mind of Ozzie Guillen: "I have found a great DH. I will bat him 5th next year."
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ May 20, 2010 -> 10:40 PM) .400 baseball after 40 games!! We did it! We have the exact same record as the 1983 Winnin' Ugly guys before they won 99 games! We're going to be unbelievable the rest of the way!
  15. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ May 20, 2010 -> 10:21 PM) Why is Castro in? Nix pinch-ran for AJ.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 20, 2010 -> 10:19 PM) I can think of several other breaks that were worse, but it does suck. I think they should change the warning track to something softer. There are a ton of ground rule 2B at USCF. Felt. I like the idea of felt.
  17. QUOTE (jphat007 @ May 20, 2010 -> 10:17 PM) When was the last time Jones did anything? 2004
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 20, 2010 -> 10:16 PM) Jones is trying to hit everything he swings at 700 ft. He does appear to be swinging from his ass at all times. Awesome. Jenks coming in when we're behind. Awesome.
  19. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 6, 2010 -> 09:43 PM) Sometimes you just gotta tip your crap. Fixed it.
  20. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 1, 2010 -> 03:38 PM) How much longer would you keep him in the 2 hole? The problem right now is we have about 5 guys where you say: "Well, I wouldn't want him to put any more pressure on himself by moving him up" -- Teahen, Rios, Pierre, Beckham, Quentin. It's ridiculous how fragile these guys are.
  21. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ May 1, 2010 -> 02:15 PM) Loaded. No worries. Randy Williams is up.
  22. QUOTE (docsox24 @ May 1, 2010 -> 02:07 PM) i think i am going to leave and go get some ice cream I, too, enjoy the ice cream food.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ May 1, 2010 -> 02:04 PM) I'm pretty sure the last Sox hitter to go upper deck at a Yankee park was Daubach. Maybe HE should bat leadoff.
  24. Look, I know that he was pretty much like this when he had his big season, but Carlos Quentin is just a ball of stress at the plate. The guy looks like he's going to grind the bat handle to sawdust and spin himself into the ground. That cannot be a good recipe for hitting success. Right?
  25. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 03:33 PM) huge pick by kong on a terrible throw by the cuban Ramirez is still dropping down on important throws. Between that and his pirouette moves when turning the DP, I don't think he's gotten one bit better since the end of last year. (And that's not even counting the fact that he still looks back over his shoulder when running the bases, first to third, instead of picking up the 3rd base coach. He's a real fundamentals whiz.)
