Chicago (57-55) at Seattle (58-53) 9:10pm CST
On that single, there was a classic case of Ramirez cheating to the hole and not being able to get to a ball that was well to the 3rd base side of 2nd. His range is just so pedestrian.

White Sox Acquire Alex Rios Off Waivers
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 06:16 PM) For some reason there's a very real anti-Pods faction that has to do with nonbaseball related stuff. He kind of has that Rex Grossman type personality that (while perfectly OK to me) rubs some people the wrong way. I don't think it's the personality. I think it's the quantitative guys who dislike the stereotypical "grinder" fans, the kind who've often supported Pods in the past, even when he was lousy. Of course, these folks -- with their hyper-emphasis on "metrics" -- have become a stereotype unto themselves, and quite irritating, as well. The irony is that Pods, this year, should be a metric guy's favorite, putting up decent OBP with some pop that boosts his OPS, too. But their likely response will involve "regression to the mean" and such. Good Lord. Can we all agree? Pods is not a good fielder, but -- over the course of his career -- has been a pretty darn good leadoff man. The usual question is health.

Confirmed: White Sox claim on Alex Rios on waivers
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 05:39 PM) I suspect this is the end of Dewayne Wise. Somehow, some way, Dewayne will hang on.

Indians @ White Sox 1:05pm CSN-HD
Maybe time to figure out why this team consistently looks asleep in the last game of a series.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 03:39 PM) Beckham looks like he could use a day off. Anyone see Dye try to go with a pitch in the last, say, 2 weeks?

QUOTE (PeavyTime @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 03:28 PM) Linebrink needs to be benched the first half of every season. His arm is dog tired by the all-star break EVERY YEAR! And it's always, "Yeah, it's a little cranky and tight from time to time, but it's fine, blah, blah, blah." Linebrink's the guy who can pass a physical but actually is really hurt, always.

QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 03:25 PM) 5.5 a year for Linebrink next year and the year after. Awesome. Maybe the Mets can be duped into taking him. Seriously, even if Alex Rios ends up on this team, he'd have to hit .180 and break both legs every year for the next 5 to have a worse contract than Linebrink's.

QUOTE (beckham15 @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 03:09 PM) what are you talking about dude konerko has saved our asses so many runs this yr its not even funny i take it you didnt watch the yankee series where he robbed jeter like 3 times at least Well, you're right. I didn't watch that series because I was away. But I did watch him the 3 weeks before that, and I did see some E's in the stat sheet. More alarmingly, his bat has been slow. All he needs is a day or 2. I'd think they could do that, with all the time Thome gets off.

QUOTE (beckham15 @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 03:09 PM) what are you talking about dude konerko has saved our asses so many runs this yr its not even funny Not the past few weeks he hasn't. I agree he's been excellent most of the year, but I can't be the only one who thinks he's been erratic over there in the last month.

QUOTE (jphat007 @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 03:01 PM) I think we've had 1 quality start on this homestand. We're lucky as s*** to go 6-4. If the starting pitching and offense doenst improve a lot very soon, we're gonna have a tough time catching up. We'll see, I guess. Best case scenario: Buehrle gets it straightened out and Danks manages to get his changeup down and in the zone. Worst case scenario: Buehrle is burned 2006-style (kind of how he's looked recently) and Danks has an adjustment year after throwing a bunch of innings last year (kind of how he's looked much of the year). Without those 2, we're looking at 2010.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 02:52 PM) The Old core is looking old. Instead of making sure that Thome gets 7 days off a week, maybe Ozzie should put Konerko's ass on the bench once in a while. His bat looks very slow, and his defense has been terrible the last 2 weeks. Watching Kotsay out there just reminds me of that.

8/2 Games
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 07:05 PM) Viciedo is 2-3 with 3 RBI's. Marrero has two bombs. As the Barons have just exploded on Mobile following a bad start from Shirek. I'm starting to think that the trade of Brandon Allen was because Marrero was right behind him. Anyone know how he is with the glove?

QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 10:53 PM) What a hilarity of a game. It was fitting Wise would do something to help win it. Amazing. Dweezy took Swisher's job last year. He b****-slapped Swisher's feel good story tonight.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 10:47 PM) Can they just hit Wise in the ass or something? That'd be a best case scenario kind of thing. I do think I will remember this as the Year of Dewayne Wise.

Sox versus Yankees July 30, 2009 game thread
QUOTE (beautox @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 10:35 PM) I'm sure Dye, Thome and Konerko won't be trying to swing for the fences...sure.. I'm tired of their group slumps. So tired. And yeah, that's even if one of them hits a game-winning HR. The GM of this team needs to dump Thome and break that crew up. (And I don't care about Thome's OPS or that he's a lefty or anything else. On this team, he's always going to bat 4 or 5, always going to block slow-poke Dye from moving to DH, and always going to team up with Dye and Konerko to form a big, fat, f***ing 6-4-3 sandwich. Break it up, already.)

Palehose vs. Twinkies 7/29--7:10pm--CSN
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 10:04 PM) is the fire KW talk serious? It's an akward year with a lot of older vets with contracts going away, I mean you can't be serious Uh, no. I wasn't serious. But there is some cause-and-effect here between the players our GM gets and the way they perform in a "ballpark" that puts a premium on speed and fundamentals. So I think it's a little foolish to pretend that KW is blameless if, year after year, the same slow, fundamentally shoddy guys are trotted out there.

Palehose vs. Twinkies 7/29--7:10pm--CSN
QUOTE (Baines3 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 09:46 PM) What in the world do we have to do to win a game in that place. Get rid of our slow and soft "leaders." And fire the manager who's in the tank before we go up there -- and the GM who built a team of guys who can't play fundamental baseball. But, since none of that is going to happen, I guess just keep losing.
