Right or wrong, the ACLU interprets the 2nd Amendment as being a collective right and not an individual one, so laws related to individual gun rights are unlikely to be viewed as unconstitutional to the ACLU.
-
hey ACLU, no defending of Christians allowed!

I brought a sign to a Sox-Twins game last year that said "LeCroy runs a 4.3 forty". No one got it. One parking lot guy said "WHO LEROY?!?!?!". WHAT A GREAT IDEA IT WAS TO MAKE THAT SIGN

English subtitles not needed says ACLU

I explained how it was unnecessary. I'm not sure what the constitutional argument is. I addressed this directly. Yes, it is hasty of them to declare this anti-immigrant. It was probably the combination of a lot of recent ENGLISH RULZ news events and the fact that the law has little to no practical purpose. This is less descriptive than "on 34th street, by the Suarez Panederia". -

I don't see how generic English signs would help people identify the location of a fire at all. First of all, if you were calling in a fire, the most important thing to use is the location, not the store type. "Hey the beauty salon is on fire." isn't going to be very helpful. Secondly, for some stores, you can tell what it is just by looking at it. The English sign isn't needed. AND, if you can't tell what kind of store it is just by looking at it, then the generic English sign is 100% worthless anyway. You seemed to ignore that "anti-immigrant" was sandwiched between "unconstitutional" and "unnecessary". -

Depends what things they are demanding be printed in Spanish. Did they demand businesses create non-English signs or was it something related to govt (like voting ballots, maybe)? -
Right. The Ashland/Paulina exit is 28B. They actually recently installed a "White Sox Parking =>" sign on the corner.

Flag burning amendment headed to Senate floor.

So being a doctor gives you immunity from criticism when you make hypocritical, asinine statements? You should have become a doctor, minors. -

Bill Frist is right. The troops are sacrificing their lives to defend our freedoms. This is a very difficult job because we have so many to defend. So, for the sake of the troops, we must do everything we can to reduce the number of freedoms we have. Also, +10 points for managing to sneak in a reference to "activist judges". -

I think he said that he wanted to leave his kids enough money so they could do anything, but not so much that they could do nothing. -
Isn't the primary concern of the pro-life crowd the death of the child? If so, why would rape be an exception?
-
I don't understand when "pro-life" people make an exception for rape. It just show that their focus is not on saving the child (which is the same whether conceived through consentual sex or rape), but on punishing the mother.

No one has been comparing them in that way. We were talking about the relationship between 21 and 18, not about the constitutionality of 18 itself. -

It means that it violates or contradicts the Constitution. Though, 21 contradicts 18 in the most direct possible way. If 21 can say "NEVERMIND" to 18, then I guess a Flag Burning Amendment can say it to 1. It's just a lot more shocking because everybody likes 1 and everybody hated 18. -

This country wasn't built around a flag, it was built around a series of great principles, like freedom of expression. Such a freedom allows people to do distasteful things like burning flags. -
Don't try to interpret how he's saying things, Mr Genius. Maybe he didn't intend for there to be a pause after "You're right". YOURERIGHTITISPETTY!

We already know the ACLU is against the death penalty. Your posts were misleading. It's pretty clear what your intentions were. You managed to get both an angry and a sarcastic anti-ACLU response to a case that has nothing to do with them.
-
It's not an opinion article. The Post Conviction Relief Office (not the NCADP or ACLU) asked the court to determine if Holton was competent. From the next few paragraphs, it's clear that the PCRO is just against the death penalty, and probably doesn't give a s*** about Holton is particular. In any case, from this article, there's no mention of the ACLU supporting this ploy and certainly not that they stayed his execution by using it themselves, as you stated in the original post. That's probably because 75% of what you "read" (aka heard from someone who already hates the ACLU) about them is misleading or flat-out wrong.
-
minors, could you provide a link from the ACLU page about Horton?

I remembered reading this before, but I didn't realize it was 8 years old. Wow. http://www.theonion.com/content/node/28982 John Kerry seems happy about it
