  1. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 20, 2013 -> 02:12 PM) The Hobbit - A-. I don't get the hate. I thought it was great. It was pretty much everything I expected. I still find it ridiculous that they are going to spend 8-9 hours telling that story, but I was engaged the entire time. I also liked how they tied in the LOTR books in key spots. I didn't experience any of the weird filming stuff people complained about in the theaters. Maybe it wasn't as noticeable on my TV or maybe they fixed that for the blu-ray release? I don't believe BluRay can do the 48fps thing, so you probably didn't get it at all. I saw it in theaters, and it was...weird. It's hard to explain and it's definitely off-putting at first, but I got used to it and eventually liked it.
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 20, 2013 -> 02:56 PM) They pretty much had to.
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 20, 2013 -> 03:47 PM)
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 20, 2013 -> 03:39 PM) Right. That was all unnecessary in the big picture though. Why add extra characters if the ones you've got can handle it?
  5. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ May 20, 2013 -> 03:33 PM) I think the opposite is true.
  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 20, 2013 -> 03:30 PM) That was in the books. They just changed .
  7. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ May 20, 2013 -> 02:23 PM) I think they'll sit on that reveal for a while.
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 20, 2013 -> 02:06 PM) So the finale of GOT will be
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 17, 2013 -> 08:22 PM) The early season were great TV. Then it kinda ebbed downhill. I lost interest in about year 4 or so. The Office is like 6 awesome seasons of a sitcom in a 9 season show.
  10. QUOTE (mr_genius @ May 17, 2013 -> 08:10 PM) Here is the story of one of the individuals who was illegally targeted by the IRS http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/05/17...are-to-sue-irs/ So basically a guy who runs a political organization that has no business getting 501c4 status in the first place. My heart aches.
  11. QUOTE (chw42 @ May 17, 2013 -> 07:11 PM) IDK what Steve was talking about with Love and Rose being inefficient together. Love put up near .600 TS before the injury last year. His career TS is lower than Carlos Boozer's: .563 to .557 His career EFG% is much lower than Boozer's: .530 to .482
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ May 17, 2013 -> 06:01 AM) The Office finale was pretty much perfect Agreed.
  13. QUOTE (Brian @ May 16, 2013 -> 09:28 PM) Have not. Wouldn't even attempt. Not into fantasy stuff. I'm not into ANY kind of fiction and I went through these 1000-page books in a few weeks each. They're just good.
  14. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 14, 2013 -> 09:47 PM) 10 little girls are playing Disney Princess dress up. Which one of them gets told they are Merida and then made fun of? She doesnt have to be an outcast, but children are cruel and mean, they will take advantage of any difference. There already are Disney Princesses that are different. Pocahontas is wearing a BEIGE TUNIC. I think your scenario is silly. There are precisely 10 girls having a Disney Princess party and they're all mandated to choose one. I hope one of the girls is black and another Native American or they'll get made fun of. Disney should have changed them into white women. If any of them actually watched the movie, they'd know Merida was cool without being overly girly. That was a primary theme. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 14, 2013 -> 09:47 PM) If Peter Pan was going to become a "Disney Prince" it would be laughable to suggest he could do it in his tights. He would obviously have to "grow up". lol QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 14, 2013 -> 09:47 PM) And I have no problem if you want to argue that the character makes no sense. That what Disney is doing is just completely a money grab and a way to take advantage of parents/children by selling them more products. And people have every right to call it a ridiculous and stupid change.
  15. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 14, 2013 -> 08:25 PM) I mean what is better, the 1 girl who is strong and bold, is a complete outcast because she looks different? How would she be an outcast when she's specifically being included? Are they going to produce cartoons where the other Disney Princesses are mean to her? QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 14, 2013 -> 08:25 PM) Or the 1 girl who is strong and bold, looks good when she wants to, showing that you can be beautiful and brave. It *contradicts* her character. Half her movie was her resisting the clothes and idea of being a pretty princess. It's like putting Peter Pan in a business suit.
  16. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 14, 2013 -> 09:08 PM) Steve, Well she is being "promoted" to a Disney princess. And all of them wear elegant attire, so they had to fancy her up. You cant sell princess if the girl looks like she is dressed as a handmaiden. Part of the theme of that movie was...yeah you can. And she's not really being promoted. Her character was a princess, in a movie owned by Disney. I think that makes her a Disney Princess.
  17. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ May 14, 2013 -> 07:45 PM) I just think there's a difference between a little girl wanting to dress up like the character from the movie and go out and shoot a bow and arrow and wanting to dress up like a princess and put on a bunch of makeup and a fancy dress. It's possible to do both. One of Merida's primary character traits was that she hates dressing up and other girly-girl activities. She's a tomboy. The change doesn't make any sense.
  18. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 14, 2013 -> 07:37 PM) She was very young in the first one. I'd assume the new one happens in the future. Women tend to start to show cleavage as they get cleavage. This isn't for a new movie since there is no sequel planned. They revamped her image for their website and other promotional materials.
  19. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ May 14, 2013 -> 08:29 PM) And that the evidence on the steroid usage was not broken down by gender other than to say that 1 in 3 high school boys admitted using protein shakes to 1 in 5 females 4.5% of the girls had tried steroids. 5.9% of the boys had tried steroids. Both were highly correlated with being athletes.
  20. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 6, 2013 -> 06:58 PM) You already have a legal aid team/public defender/private attorney representing you through the appeals process. If there was any chance of you being innocent that person/team would be doing everything they can to get your conviction overturned. Plus, DNA testing isn't really all that expensive. I had some testing done in a case for $100 bucks. Yeah, unless the court isn't interested in the DNA test: http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2013/05/0...execution-date/ http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2012/02/2...n-on-death-row/ http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2009/06/1...644/scotus-dna/ http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/nationnow/...row-inmate.html
  21. QUOTE (Brian @ May 1, 2013 -> 09:49 PM) Heard that Britney Griner came out...after the NCAA tourney. Never made a big story of it. Is it more acceptable to be gay in the WNBA? Remember, not all wnba players look like Brittany Jackson. That barrier was broken a long time ago. Sheryl Swoops came out like 10 years ago.
  22. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 1, 2013 -> 01:46 PM) I saw that yesterday. Just dropped from the sky. I guess it lost all power? Rumors are that the vehicles it was carrying in the cargo bay got loose and rolled to the back of the plane, which caused the tail to dip and the engines to stall out. This was right after takeoff.
  23. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 30, 2013 -> 07:35 PM) What violation? He said his opinion on TV? That's his job... His opinion of sports, not his religious opinion. "New York team sells arena naming rights to Chicago's Superdawg" Sports opinion: The extra revenue will be good for the team. Sports opinion: New Yorkers may be upset that the name was sold to a Chicago business. Sports opinion: Superdawg Arena is a really lame name. Not a sports opinion: The team owner is going to go to hell for promoting pork products that the Lord says are unclean.
  24. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 30, 2013 -> 07:19 PM) Protected speech and religious beliefs are different though. There's no protection for being racist. Simply claim your racism is based on religion. Win.
