  1. If he is out... which is still not more than a rumor yet... I expect (and hope) that other guys will step up. Paulie usually has two very strong back-to-back months every summer. August was his first. If other guys step up, this will not kill us. If they don't, then we don't deserve to go on anyway.
  2. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 01:08 PM) Bruce Levine confirms Quentin is out for the season. If it's true, it will be the first rumor Levine has gotten right all year.
  3. Great Falls beat Missoula 6-5 Tyler Kuhn is unconscious. 3-4 again tonight raising his BA to .377 on the season. Michael Grace was 2-4 with a double, a triple, and 3 RBIs. Luis Sierra went 2-3 with an RBI. Cody Allen with a nice start for the win. 6 innings; 2 runs on 7 hits; 5 K's; and 0 walks.
  4. QUOTE (CQMVP @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 09:11 PM) How was Jerry Owens in the leadoff spot last year, any worse than OC in the leadoff spot this year? Their stats are pretty much identical.... except Owens actually knows how to steal bases. But OC is a huge improvement huh? lol Some of you guys have blinders on. LOL. NOT even close. Seriously, if you want to state such strong opinions as facts, do yourself (and us) a favor and do your homework first.
  5. QUOTE (CQMVP @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 08:32 PM) By the way, why do people keep bringing up our improvement over last year? Seriously. Last year was one of the most underperforming White Sox teams I've watched in the last 10 years. We were picked to win the central last year with the team we had... Making zero changes to this team, we still would have improved dramatically over last year. There was no way not to. Yes we underperformed. But who picked us for 1st last year??? Preseason 2007 was practically a media SWEEP for the Tigers. Most people had us pegged for 3rd or 4th last year, not first.
  6. The Warthogs lost 6-4 in Game 1. Sergio Miranda went 3-4 with a double. Brett Bonvechio went 3-4 with 2 doubles. CJ Retherford was 1-2 with 2 walks and had 2 RBIs. Matt Long gave up 5 runs (4 earned) in 4 1/3 innings as the starter.
  7. QUOTE (CQMVP @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 08:30 PM) Who says Swisher is having an off year? He's put up pretty much the same numbers his entire career, with a slightly higher average. He hits for power, but not for average. He sees a lot of pitches, walks quite a bit, but strikes out more than he walks. He batted .236 in 2005. He batted .254 in 2006. He batted .262 in 2006... Every year, hitting 20+ home runs. What makes everyone think he's having an off year? This is pretty much what we can expect from Swisher... He's not a good center fielder either... Hey, maybe they're looking to replace PK in the next couple years with Swisher... which would be ok if he could bring up his average and drive in more runs, but he better not be our solution at CF for the future. He doesn't have speed, and his defense leaves a lot to be desired. So batting 30 points lower this year than 2 years ago... and almost 40 points lower than last year... is not an off-year to you, eh? And he averaged over 30 doubles per season his first 3 years in MLB... and has only 19 so far this year... that's not a drop-off to you either? He's 70 points lower in OPS this year than last... and approx. 100 points lower than two years ago... But this year is 'pretty much the same numbers as his entire career'. Wow. I take it you're a former Enron accountant.
  8. QUOTE (CQMVP @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 08:07 PM) Basically, Cabrera has disappointed people, and sucks. Swisher has disappointed people, and sucks, and we gave up way too much to get him. That pretty much sums it up, and there's really no arguing with that, if you've watched the majority of the games this year. Neither are a big improvement over what we had at those positions last year... If you think they are, you're fooling yourself. Well... I agree with your right to say what you think, but suggesting that there is 'no arguing with it' and if someone does that 'they are fooling themselves' is ridiculous. Swisher having an off year does not equal 'sucks'. And suggesting that neither is an improvement over what we had last year tells me you didn't watch much baseball last year.
  9. So... let's see if I can summarize about 90% of what I've read in this thread so far in 10 words or less: - Cabrera has dissapointed people - We shoulda got more for Garland Does that pretty much sum it up? (I'm not suggesting I agree with these points. Just trying to sum up the issues underlying many of the critical comments.)

  11. There's just something I find hilarious about this topic. We had one of the WORST records in baseball last year. And we've spent all but a few days in 1st place this summer. And... we're discussing... what? Whether or not Kenny had a bad offseason???? Hey... if that's a bad offseason, I hope he has one every year from now on.
  12. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 01:31 PM) I've found that in general, people on the internet are stupid. That's because 50% of the people on the Internet are below average.
  13. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 01:08 PM) So where should Dexter Carter start next year? Kannapolis? Winston-Salem? I wouldn't mind seeing him start in W-S and then move down if he struggles early. Makes sense to me. He tore through the Pioneer League more convicingly that John Ely did last year. And although Ely struggled early, he came on very strong at the end of the season for W-S. So, yeah... I could see Carter in Winston-Salem next year.
  14. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 12:35 PM) Why can Owens get the useless start but Phillips could not. I assume Phillps has had more consistent AB's compared to Toby through out the year and the power numbers couldn't be any worse. Here you go, so you don't have to assume... Phillips stats at Charlotte Hall's splits Bottom-Line... Phillips AAA production is pretty close to Hall's MLB production. But... Hall's splits against lefties are very good. Advantage - Hall.
  15. Regarding the Great Jon Garland... a little reality check here... Gar has a 4.54 ERA this season (31st in the AL) with a .294 BAA and a 1.45 WHIP... not exactly $10M worth of production. Meanwhile, Danks is 11th in the AL in ERA... and Gavin is 13th. Would keeping Garland have made us better? No.
  16. There are quite a few Tribe fans who think their team still has a shot this year. (Really) Let's win this game and help put them out of their misery.
  17. He didn't REALLY mean that Joe is not going to be available the rest of the year. It's just another Ozzie "if they're not available to play, I act like they don't exist" comment. Mark Gonzalez spun it to make an eye-catching headline... that's all.
  18. Somebody tell Ozzie that today is NOT Sunday. Actually there is some logic buried in there. On the season, right-handed hitters are batting .318 versus Sowers.
  19. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 09:24 AM) If Brian Anderson does not start today. I really think they need to release him. Which would accomplish.... what?
  20. QUOTE (CQMVP @ Sep 2, 2008 -> 07:51 PM) Alexei has been money, no doubt about that. But he was a rookie signing. We took a chance on Quentin and we got lucky. Thankfully, his injury bugs seem to be behind him and he's back to form. But Kenny expected very little out of him, and he even stated when we acquired CQ, that he was still looking for upgrades in the outfield. We acquired OC and Swisher just so Kenny could claim "big" offseason acquisitions, and both of those deals sucked, IMO. I'd rate our offseason moves as poor to average. We gave up a lot more than we got in return. Certainly, our "big" deals didn't pan out how they should have, for what we gave up. So.... let me see if I got this right... The moves to get Quentin and Alexei, don't count because... they weren't "expected" to turn out. So, the fact that we gave up an A-ball player for a guy who might win the MVP doesn't factor in to your evaluation of the offseason moves, eh??? LOL. Wow.
  21. GF at Billings... Game 1 Hudson pitching GF won 14-4. Kuhn and Celis both with big nights... 3-4 and 4 RBIs apiece. GF at Billings... Game 2 Voyagers lost 4-1 despite a great start by Dexter Carter.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 2, 2008 -> 06:25 PM) Comcast this morning. They said his splitter was as good as it's been all season. Thanks.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 2, 2008 -> 03:14 PM) It's going to be interesting to see him pitch, as it sounds like his fastball is in the mid 80s right now. Where did you see that? In the articles I read (Trib and SunTimes), it seemed that he was struggling with command, but I didn't see any mention of speed.
  24. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Sep 2, 2008 -> 03:51 PM) Wasn't Rasner actually part of the catcher we traded and not really part of the Danks deal????? Nope. The other guy you're thinking about is John Lujan who we got in exchange for Chris Stewart. Rasner was the 3rd guy the Sox got (with Danks and Masset) for BMac + David Paisano.
  25. I think it comes down to the final weekend and we win by one game. That's what I think is going to happen.
