  1. Paiml a single short of the cycle in the Warthogs game. He'll probably get one more at-bat in the game.
  2. Thursday night's double header sweep was huge. The Warthogs reduced their magic number to 1 after splitting the 4 games series with Kinston.
  3. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 12:09 PM) After a few minutes, I know where she stands on enough issues to know that I wouldn't support her. But I don't know enough about her to judge whether she's a good pick or not. She's not exactly the kind of known quantity that Joe Biden is. That may turn out to be a good thing. The few minutes I did see saw her make a good speech. Of course following someone like John McCain, it's not hard to look good as a public speaker. Thank you for being a fine example of my point.
  4. I find the responses interesting. Pretty easy to tell which parties people support by their comments. Obama fans are finding faults and bashing the pick. What a shock.
  5. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 10:50 AM) Obama spokesman Bill Burton: Today, John McCain put the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency. Governor Palin shares John McCain's commitment to overturning Roe v. Wade, the agenda of Big Oil and continuing George Bush's failed economic policies -- that's not the change we need, it's just more of the same. Petty weak response by the Obama people.
  6. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 10:35 AM) Haha! The racist southerners won't know who to vote for now! My guess is that they'll lean towards the war hero running with a woman who likes to hunt and fish.
  7. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 10:28 AM) This wont get the disgruntled Hillary supporters and it will offend the old boys whom McCain could count on to keep blindly voting republican. This was a monumental miscue. Nah. You think the people who blindly vote Republican will just not vote and allow someone as liberal as Obama get in the White House instead? Don't think so. I think it's a great pick. The biggest risk McCain was facing was looking too much like Bush... which is exactly what would have happened if he picked another pasty-looking ol' white man for VP.
  8. How much experience does somebody really need to attend funerals for the next 4 years?
  9. http://www.warthogs.com/content/News/items...7_11-55-42?c=on 8/27/2008 WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Winston-Salem Warthogs outfielder John Shelby III and third baseman C.J. Retherford were recently named to the Carolina League Postseason All-Star team. The selection committee consisted of general managers, media and field staffs from around the league. Selected by the Chicago White Sox in the fifth round of the 2006 draft, Shelby III has been a dominating fixture in the Warthogs lineup. He paces Winston-Salem with a .297 batting average, 76 RBI and 32 stolen bases. The former Kentucky Wildcats has added 15 home runs, 35 doubles and 7 triples, which puts him third in the league with 57 extra-base hits. Retherford was signed as a free agent out of Arizona State and has been the cornerstone of the Warthogs defense at third base. He leads the team with 16 home runs while hitting .292 and knocking in 68 runs. In his team-high 124 games played, Retherford has added 27 doubles while stealing 11 bases and scoring 62 runs. Both players have played a prominent role in the Warthogs recent playoff push with their exceptional play in the final month of the season. Shelby III is hitting .354 with 5 home runs and 19 RBI in the month of August. He has also added 10 doubles, 4 triples and is a perfect 10-for-10 in stolen bases. Retherford has contributed 16 RBI and a home run with a .333 batting average in August. He has also walked 12 times which has aided his .417 on-base percentage.
  10. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 06:41 PM) You can scratch off 1-2 becuase the idea would be to bring him on when the rosters expand which makes him ineligible for the playoffs. I'd rather see Crede with a cane at third than Pablo. He was brutal there. I'm pretty sure he could still be made eligible just before the playoffs if the situation justified it. And I'm not really suggesting we should re-sign him. Just thought the reasons why people think we 'should' would make an interesting (and possibly funny) list.
  11. 10 Reasons We Should Bring Back Pablo (1) He could be the 2008 version of Geoff Blum. (2) Because he could come in handy when we face CC in the World Series (3) Would provide us with depth when Crede goes back on the DL before the end of the season (4) - (10) Others???
  12. Charlotte @ Richmond - canceled again. Birmingham beat Mobile 7-6 McCulloch on the mound Winston-Salem beat Kinston 3-1 in the continuation of a suspended game Winston-Salem beat Kinston 3-1 in the second game too. Long with the start Kannapolis @ West Virginia Postponed due to wet grounds
  13. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 07:02 AM) Has Jon Link blown a save in 3 straight games now? I think so. He's having a bad month. (0-3; 6.92 ERA; and over half of his blown saves for the season have come this month). Too bad. He's had such a great year otherwise... not the way to end it.
  14. Charlotte @ Richmond - rained out Birmingham lost to Jacksonville in 10-innings Winston-Salem lost to Kinston 7-4 in the first game of a double-header (The second game got rained out) Kanny had the night off Great Falls beat Helena 7-2 Hudson a great start... 6 1/3 innings; 2 runs on 2 hits; 12 K's; 2 BBs Gerst, Kuhn, Celis, and Cheatham with 2 hits each. Bristol's season is over. They finished in 3rd place with a 34-30 record.
  15. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 01:46 PM) Welcome aboard to the FutureSox forum, Scenario. There's really never any moderating to do, though, lol. Pretty civil forum, unlike, say the SLaM That's good. I'll do less damage that way. (Thanks btw.)
  16. QUOTE (YASNY @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 09:15 AM) No, you got that wrong. It was a 72 year old virgin. Now I'm going to have that image stuck in my brain all day... damn you.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 06:21 AM) Welcome to the fray... Now its time to learn the secret handshake... [unzips pants] Uh oh... I knew there was a catch. So the promise of 72 virgins was just to suck us in, eh?
  18. "Why the OC hate?" Seems like many sports fans just love to have somebody on their own team to hate. (And OC's early season slump and phone habits made him an easy target.) So... if it wasn't him, someone else on the Sox would be catching the abuse. What a guy... taking one for the team.
  19. Link to milb.com story Pitchers Lucas Harrell Derek Rodriguez Carlos Torres Aaron Poreda Position Players Cole Armstrong Gordon Beckham Maurice Gartrell
  20. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 08:42 PM) Aww man I can't even talk smack to you on this board now that you are a mod. LOL. Hey... I still welcome (and usually invite) abuse.
  21. Not really... But it looks like the rain wiped out the baseball schedule in the Carolinas. Norfolk @ Charlotte - canceled Kinston @ Winston-Salem - canceled Greensboro @ Kannapolis - canceled Pulaski @ Bristol - canceled ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Birmingham @ Jacksonville Day pitching Mother Nature playing cruel tricks on us. Rains out all the other games and not Dewon Day's turn in the rotation. Great Falls @ Helena Billeaud pitching
  22. Tuesday is the last game of the year for Bristol. Wow... where has the summer gone?
  23. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 12:20 PM) sent an email, probably won't get a response but I had to give it a shot. just asked if we'll see more leadoff at-bats for Alexei this year 4-5 yesterday ;o Another issue (besides the ones previously mentioned)... In his first 80 games as a regular, Alexei hit 13 homeruns and had 50 RBIs. Project that out to a full season... 25+ homeruns... 100+ RBIs... Is that the type of player we want batting first? Or further down in the lineup?
  24. Thank you Seattle!!! Adrian Beltre hit a walkoff homerun in the 11th to beat the Twins.
  25. Charlotte lost 4-1 in a rain-shortened game. Birmingham lost 9-8 in 10 innings. Winston-Salem lost 8-5 Kannapolis was rained out. Great Falls lost 2-0 Bristol lost 8-2 Organization-wide suckage. Not much positive to comment on.
