  1. Keep in mind that with Omogrosso's injury, he's not going to pitch next year.
  2. Another way to view the attendance this year... 2.28 million is the 8th highest total in the history of the WhiteSox. Not bad for a difficult year in a down economy.
  3. QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 27, 2009 -> 02:46 PM) No way Porcello should get it over Beckham. Of course, if you ask people in Detroit, they'd say no way Beckham should get it over Porcello. But if I had to bet money... I'd say it's neither one of them. I think Jeff Niemann is going to get it.
  4. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 27, 2009 -> 02:05 PM) Dye is healthy. Healthy knees and legs and I have seen some very good defense from JD and his throwing arm is strong. The talk about him being a poor defender doesn't ring true in my book There are worse right-fielders in MLB. But it isn't a very long list.
  5. Swisher is NOT an above average CF. He is not even an average CF. His jumps on balls were slow. His routes were bad. He should only be in CF on days a manager has no other options.
  6. Great defensive play by Podsednik. First time I've ever used that combination of words in a sentence.
  7. The more I think about it, the more I believe Ozzie's little outburst was simply him venting after a bad game at the end of a disappointing season. I don't think the fact that there were TVs on and people watching football had much to do with anything. If it wasn't this, he would have found something else to blow up about.
  8. Interesting strategy by Hudson... Get the pressure of a no-hitter and shut-out out of the way with the first hitter so he can just settle down and pitch.
  9. There's something really wrong with the clubhouse because a few guys want to watch football after games... after we've been mathematically eliminated? (eyes rolling)
  10. QUOTE (danman31 @ Sep 26, 2009 -> 09:56 AM) This BA link says otherwise. Where did you get your info? A Trib article. Figures. I should have double-checked the sources. Of course there is an infinitesimally small chance that I misread it and was therefore wrong. Either way, I thank you for pointing it out.
  11. I'd add Kyle Bellamy to the mix too. Yeah, he only pitched in A-ball this year, but he's the type of guy who could move very quickly through the organization. In fact, he's my very early pick to surprise in spring training next year. It wouldn't shock me if he stepped up and became a leading candidate to come north with the team.
  12. Dye, Quentin, and Rios all have a hit... in the same game?
  13. QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 06:11 PM) I think Link is a candidate to be taken off the 40 man roster and be exposed to the Rule V draft. Why? I think Link has a decent shot at making the club in spring training. IMO, there are several other players who will be shown the door before Link.
  14. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 20, 2009 -> 09:12 PM) Wow, Villanova is pretty much their Viciedo. He's a really big deal in their system. Something of a bust, but with great potential. Sad situation. Only 19 years old. Wow.
  15. Bradley gets bent out of shape when he gets booed. Can you imagine how long his fragile psyche would last on the South Side? I'd give him a week. LOL.
  16. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 11:25 AM) To be clear, I wasn't criticizing you posting it - I am glad you did. I was criticizing the writer for not doing their homework or having much of an idea what they were writing about. VenomSox... I echo what NSS says above. You started a good conversation by posting the article. We're just pointing out the holes in the author's knowledge of the Sox.
  17. QUOTE (VenomSox @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 10:31 AM) Damn that's the last time I will post anything. Why?
  18. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 10:10 AM) John Sickels and the guys from Fangraphs are two of the more respected sources in thefield. It’s amazing that you think you can just discredit everything in one sentence after I thoroughly reposed to your criticism over a lack of scouting reports. Field? What field? I 'discredited' them because they're not scouting sources. Meanwhile, it appears that an baseball organization staffed with professional baseball evaluators and a GM with a scouting background decided to give Getz a shot as a regular starting MLB second baseman. And a manager who played infield in the majors for over a decade says Getz is more qualified to be a starter than the guy you want. But... they're wrong and the bloggers are right... right? Hello....
  19. John Sickels is a columnist/blogger who used to work for ESPN.com... But they let him go and replaced him with analysis from BaseballAmerica and Keith Law. He runs a nice blog for fantasy baseball fans. But he is not a scout.
  20. BTW... here are notes from an mlb.com article quoting Ozzie on Sunday... Guillen reiterated on Sunday that he doesn't see any changes coming for his infield in 2010. He likes the combination of Gordon Beckham at third, Alexei Ramirez at shortstop and Chris Getz at second base. "My infield is set. That's going to be the team, hopefully," Guillen said. "I'll take the three kids. They play well and have a lot of energy and bring a lot of great stuff. Alexei has been better the past two months, Beckham is unbelievable the way he plays third. Nobody talks about Getz, but he's a great baseball player." Guillen also believes that Jayson Nix will continue to function as a top-notch utility player, including as an emergency outfielder. Pretty much clears up where they stand in the organization's eyes, I think.
  21. Pretty much what I expected. Articles written by sports-writers/bloggers do not qualify as scouting reports. How many of those guys actually watch players to evaluate their skills... or are even qualified to make more than a fan-level judgment? None.
  22. QUOTE (Pods70Rowand33 @ Sep 20, 2009 -> 11:28 AM) Who were the other top teams? Other organizations? Yankees and Rockies were the two farm systems ahead of the Sox in wins.
  23. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 20, 2009 -> 09:26 PM) There's ample proof from their minor league scouting reports that their is a very real disparity between Nix and Getz in the field. Not to mention the sample size you're taking issue with isn't actually that small. Ample proof, eh? Please provide me any minor league scouting reports or other resources you can find that talk about Getz's defense.
  24. QUOTE (League @ Sep 20, 2009 -> 08:54 PM) Nix is far and away the better defender - Getz: -4.6 UZR, -4.0 RngR, -4.8 UZR/150 @ second. Nix: 3.6 UZR, 3.7 RngR, 10.2 UZR/150 @ second. Small.sample.size
  25. Getz 2009 stats are very comparable to Brian Roberts' first full MLB season (both at age 25). And their minor league numbers are very comparable too. In fact, Getz showed more power in the minors than Roberts.
