QUOTE (JPN366 @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 09:29 PM) Rote was released after the season, Inouye was released back in May and Chirino has been out of the organization since 2008. Tsk tsk, Patrick. Yeah, I was slacking... I was just doing a quick review of the 2005-2006 draft lists and grabbing names to get the post up there. I knew the list wasn't right and figured someone would correct it for me. So, thanks for doing it.

Other Possibles? (not sure whether they are eligible, but think they probably are) Christian Marrero Anthony Carter Ryan Rote Israel Chirino Tyson Corley Lee Cruz Matt Inouye and a few other players in the lower minors
-
I forgot McCulloch. He's eligible too.
-
Nice article about Brent Morel on mlb.com today. With 1 more at-bat, in today's final game, he becomes eligible for the batting title and has a good shot at winning it.

Who will be added to the 40 by Friday (tomorrow) to be protected from the draft? Players who must either be protected/exposed include: Stefan Gartrell John Shelby Jr. Matt Long Justin Cassell Brian Omogrosso I suspect the Sox will protect Gartrell, Shelby, and maybe Cassell. Doubtful anyone will take a flyer on Omogrosso for next year given his injury. Please add anybody I missed...

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 11:45 PM) Interesting that Santeliz is a three star prospect while Jones is in the "four more" group. Does anyone have any ideas for the disparity? Probably due to age difference and levels they pitched at. Jones pitched in high-A this year. Santeliz is a little bit year younger (8 months) and pitched at AA. BTW, Santeliz is pitching great in winter ball. Dominating. And showing great control. VERY encouraging.)

I read it. Cowley's response to Jason is so pathetic that I have completely lost any respect I had for Joe. Doesn't make much sense to dump on loyal and knowledgeable fans of the team he covers for a living, does it? What a dip****.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 02:12 PM) Yes. He finished 20th out of 25 qualified 1B in wOBA last year and these are numbers that will likely decline next season. And yet he's the 8th highest paid 1B in baseball. Etc., etc... Here's the problem I have with your analysis... There are no real slackers at 1B in MLB... (see list below). And it's not like we could just go out there and scoop one of them up to replace him. So mentioning Paulie is 20/25 among hitters at 1B paints a picture of a sub-par player who could easily be replaced... which is not true. An .840 OPS with 25+ homeruns and 90+ RBIS is not as easy to replace as you're trying to make it sound. A player with an .842 OPS etc. is one of the top 3 hitters on almost any team in MLB. Plus... almost any player in the 1B group who came up for free agency is likely to make similar or more money than Konerko is getting. List of MLB First Basemen Sorted by OPS 1.000 or higher Albert Pujols Prince Fielder .900 or higher Joey Votto Derrek Lee Kevin Youkilis Adrián González Mark Teixeira Miguel Cabrera Ryan Howard Adam Dunn Kendry Morales Lance Berkman Todd Helton .800 or higher Carlos Peña Mark Reynolds Justin Morneau Russell Branyan Billy Butler Paul Konerko (.842 OPS) The only 3 on this list with OPS below .800... David Ortiz James Loney Daniel Murphy

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 09:56 AM) LOL I was just listening to the Score 670 and Cowley was on. He basically just took a dump on soxnet.net. It wasn't cool. He's just pissed he didn't hear about it first. I can't even count the number of times he's written stories about rumors with less substantive information than this one.

Congrats to Andrew Bailey.

QUOTE (kwill @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 12:56 PM) There is no way this would be that easy for the White Sox. Some questions that may come up like Why would the Angels want to pickup Konerko's salary and trade away prospects when they are looking for ways to keep their own guys? The only way they do this is if they lose some salary in the process. Sox Get: Gary Matthews Jr. Adrian Gonzalez Cash from Angels Padres Get: Anahiem Top Prospect Hudson and Flowers Anahiem: Shed Gary Matthews Jr Contract Paul Konerko This would mean that we would be gaining about 19 million in salary for this year. We would be shedding Konerko's contract. Plus, the angels throw in about 3 million for the next 2 seasons. And then we'd trade GMJ to the Cubs for Milton Bradley. :0

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 12:27 PM) Isn't PK a 5 and 10 guy? Or are we just assuming he'll accept the trade since he lives out west anyways and was close to signing with them in the 2005 offseason? And I don't think it hurts that they're the best team in the AL West and in the hunt for the playoffs pretty much every year.

QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 08:39 AM) you can't expect ESPN to cover more than four two teams, guys. Let's be realistic. Fixed. Good thing there aren't any Yankee or RedSox players in the mix, eh?

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 15, 2009 -> 07:37 PM) So are they really saying that David Cook would be the 7th most valuable offensive player in our organization next year? Right behind Josh Fields.

With all of the Flowers trade talk, ..... just wondering
scenario replied to balfanman's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (balfanman @ Nov 12, 2009 -> 02:58 PM) Just look in all of the Gonzales / Votto / Halladay / etc. threads Ahhh... I thought you were referring to outside rumors, not to conversations on our board. -

QUOTE (balfanman @ Nov 12, 2009 -> 10:02 AM) with all of the talk of trading Flowers... Where has there been talk about trading him? -
QUOTE (League @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 04:28 PM) Floyd is cheap. ^^^^^^^^^ Floyd will earn $1M less in the next 3 years (2010, 2011, 2012) combined than Halladay will make in 2010.
-
I'm not surprised to see the Sox name come up for Halladay... Because we have what Toronto wants in return... young, cheap. and talented starting pitching (like Floyd or Danks) Don't think we'll do that sort of deal unless Kenny gets really creative on other payroll issues. But... I wouldn't completely rule out the possibility either.
-
The problem is... now that Toronto has fired Riccardi the odds of them giving up something for nothing has gone down dramatically.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 11:18 AM) Who has he recognized that no one else could? I think he has very little impact on draft selections. Isn't he supposed to be developing players? Being around those bad teams, he may have a warped sense of what major league ready is. I think you're way off base here. Bell has an outstanding reputation for identifying/developing talent. And he's completely revamped (and dramatically improved) our minor league system in the last 3 years.
-
The West squad is staging a comeback... 7-6 now in the 3rd inning.
-
Not missing much. The East squad scored 7 runs in the first. (Danks is on the West.) And D2 has flied out to left in his first two at-bats.
-
The game is free on mlb.com... Here is a link
-
FWIW... When I went to AFL games last year, my first thought when watching Danks was 'holy crap is that guy tall'. In person, he strikes you as the proverbial freak athlete. Built sort of like an NBA small forward.

Hope you have a great birthday!
