QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 2, 2015 -> 12:51 PM) So, at 34 Paul Konerko was a lesser version of 34 year-old Adam LaRoche? I find that fascinating since Paul Konerko had a .977 OPS at age 34 and his CAREER OPS is within 10 points of Adam LaRoche's best season. F*ck that sentence and f*ck that article. They're both white first basemen. The comparisons end there.

I am. I am one totally messed up dude.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 06:27 PM) Hold the f*** on, cheering for a guy that used steriods would make you sick to your stomach, but you're cool with a dude who banged his teammate wife?? I really hope you're just f***ing around, because otherwise you got some f***ed up morals. Yeah, people are free to make there own sexual choices. Crazy I know.
-
QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Dec 27, 2014 -> 11:15 PM) As long as he doesn't sleep with anyone's wife. I don't really care if he does tbh. As long as he hits the s*** out of the ball.

I'd let any bum out there have it.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 02:46 PM) MAX, did you stop rooting for the Sox when they signed Will Cordero? If a guy cheating makes you sick to your stomach, I don't want to know what watching a wife beater would do to you. I had no awareness of his personal life. I just watched games. I can't say he was an important player to me at the time because I don't even recall him playing for the sox.
-
QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 02:45 PM) Cheating is cheating. To Quantify it but money is weird to me. It's not as wrong for a player that is making it to the majors over a guy in a FA year? Why? Most people forget that sports are entertainment. I want to win, don't care about other player's pasts. Each and every player has a calculated risk involved. Its not by money but by motivation. Some systems of rules, like the law, and our justice system, take motivation for the rules being broken into account. They do this because the world is not black and white. I agree with this philosophy. Life is very complex. Its why hate crimes are considered worse than the same crimes committed intra-racialy.
-
QUOTE (shakes @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 02:35 PM) Nuts. No. Calling out hypocrisy but quantifying your own rules for cheating is...... hypocritical and makes your argument a bit ridiculous, and yeah whiny. Just not sure with your inconsistent stance on cheating how you could even follow amateur or professional sports. No, both are cheating. I never said otherwise. There are different degrees of cheating though I believe. The world is not black and white, its shades of grey. And on that cheating spectrum, what melky did to me is as close to black as one can get.

Anybody else having trouble supporting this team?

QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 02:31 PM) Because this set of morals is fickle and applied mostly arbitrarily. Hating on the guys who got caught while signing the praises of those who didn't just doesn't make any sense. Does nobody have serious suspicions about Konerko? I love the guy, loved what he did and enjoyed the send off he got, but if there ever was a roider on the Sox in the past 15 years he'd be it. The symptoms are all there (the body breaking down all at once, late career surge). Since its the White Sox he never got the national magnifying glass the Ortiz does, but come on... you cannot just pretend everyone who's done roids got caught and hate those guys while ignoring the rest. You've completely lost the plot, if you ever had it. Now konerko is a roider because he aged too quickly in your opinion? I haven't spoken about anyone "who hasn't got caught yet", or sung their praises in this thread. -
I guess in my mind, cheating to make it to the big leagues is a much lesser offense than cheating to make many more millions. Its akin to the motivation for a crime being taken into account while determining what crime is being charged, or during sentencing. Then the sox go and reward the guy with millions who cheated to make millions. Is there no hypocrisy there? am i nuts?

QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 02:20 PM) It's not personal, take a deep breath. Everything that was glaringly wrong with the 2014 team has been adequately (in some cases more than adequately) filled in one offseason and the Sox still have Montas, Danish and Anderson in the minors. That's a feat. To then say you struggle to support the entire team because they signed one guy it's just... a dumb thing to say. A dumb thing to subscribe to. Unless you wanted to just see everyone develop and keep Semien, Bassitt and the payroll flexibility to make a run in 2016, then I'd at least understand it. But if you liked the Shark trade and all the other moves that built the Sox into an overnight contender you have to be able to see the forest through the trees and get what the Sox are doing. Just be a fan and enjoy it as a whole instead of picking the parts you don't like then using that as jusjustification to hate on the whole thing. I don't think you understand what the word "dumb" means. Having trouble supporting the team due to a particular set of morals has nothing to do with a lack of intelligence. -
If they trade dayan maybe something opens up?

QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 02:05 PM) If you cannot find it in yourself to support this team with the guys they already had and the commitments they made to try and win you're just being a petulant little whiner. I'm not a big fan of Melky Cabrera but whatever, it's one move out of the 6 major moves they've made this offseason. He's better than Viciedo, I'm at least pretty sure of that. The idea that anyone could struggle to support the 2015 White Sox is stupid. Anyone who agrees is similarly stupid. You don't even have to expect them to win, but not supporting the haste under which the Sox have been rebuilt is pretty indefensible. You have gone way too far. -
What will lowrie likely sign for?

QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 01:54 PM) MAX, have you rooted for teams with pitchers who doctor the ball? Cheating is a long time part of our game's honored past. Not to my knowledge. In fact I was banned here once because I despise maddux and let my feelings go a bit too far. Slathering his hand in spit before so many pitches made me sick to my stomach.
-
QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 01:06 PM) You can root for the team and boo when he comes to the plate. That's the great part about being a fan, no rules. I don't think I've ever rooted for a team where I've liked every single player, except as a kid when you don't know any bettr. Appreciate the reply. I'm feeling a little better about this move.
-
QUOTE (shakes @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 01:47 PM) Then you shouldn't have been rooting for this team the last several years with Flowers and Quintana on the roster. Those are different situations entirely. Please see the other thread about this topic.

QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 01:45 PM) Before anyone condemns this years team for a PED user being on it, Pablo Ozuna was suspended for PED's back in '09. He helped win a WS for us, and I don't see anyone throwing that team under the bus for having a PED user on it. He played in like 3 games of the playoffs I bet. Its different when its a full time starter and major piece of the team. -

QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 01:14 PM) This team threw a World Series in 1919 and you're mad because we got a PED user. That's easy to forget. It was like 10 owners ago, 20 management groups ago, and none of us were alive. -

QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 01:10 PM) We have no idea who is clean and who isn't, on any MLB team. I want to win. I don't care if every player on the Sox is a bigoted drug addict. Does anyone care that David Ortiz is one of the biggest cheats in the history of the game? Absolutely not -- he is regarded as an icon. Asterisks no longer exist in the modern game. Again, I want to win. This team was a lot more difficult to support when it was trotting Dunn, Beckham, Viciedo, and Keppinger out there every day. I actually agree with that. -

QUOTE (staxx @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 01:07 PM) Nope. Baseball and ethics are two completely different aspects in life. I enjoy the sox because they are my favorite baseball team, what they do off the field is irrelevant. Baseball was plagued by this for over 10 years, at some point you had to have rooted for a cheater. Its entertainment. I don't believe anything is that separate in life. -
QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 01:00 PM) I'm less concerned with the fact that he once cheated than that I don't feel especially reassured that he isn't/isn't trying to anymore. I also have no faith that he did not cheat after that and I belive that his numbers that got him this contract might be inflated. I have no faith in this man's character at all. Does everyone not recall the deviousness he orchestrated with his agent on making a fake product webpage? Only when caught in that too, did he come clean. He is a false person, and I will not be put in a position of rooting for him. I am just trying to decide if it makes sense to root for 24 men on the team and root against 1. How is that going to be enjoyable for me? Thanks, Hahn.
-
QUOTE (Knuckles @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 12:45 PM) I see your point of view, but how does one player outweigh the other 24 guys on the roster? Ultimately because management put that team together, rewarding an admitted cheat with a huge contract.

I'm not sure I can be a fan of this team anymore. Very sad news. I'm quite conflicted.
