Lefty: Thornton Righty: Santos Long Relief: Pena or someone of that ilk LOOGY: Byrdak ROOGY: someone we'll find in the system Closer: Sale Where is this huge demand for a high priced 'pen arm? If we get one, great, if not, it isn't like we're running straight scrubs out there...

QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 12:13 PM) I may be optimistic about certain things, but I am very realistic when it comes to handing out contracts and acquiring players and our payroll. We're going to lose a lot of games 9-8 this year when our bullpen consists of me, you and ss2k5 because we can't afford to sign anyone. How do we know we 'can't afford to sign anyone'? I'm not sure anyone on this board right now, knows what the final payroll is going to be. Putz, yes would have been a guy I wanted back, but he is gone. Move on to the next guy. How often do bullpen guys signed for multi-years, actually earn that money? Our 'pen has been a crapshoot of unknowns for many years, lots of who worked out, some who didn't...I know I would rather have a failed experiment with a guy making $200k than a guy making $15 mil over 2 years, who will give you probably...100 innings for that 15 million.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 11:57 AM) You're astounded? I want JJ Putz as my damned closer. PK precluded that from happening. Stop acting like his kids would go hungry if he took 3/$30. So...taking your own stance on things....it can't be said that JJ Putz was more concerned about what was good for the team, he jumped at the best offer $$$ wise. Is it only an issue when it relates to a move you wanted made?

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 11:33 AM) For me it's the third guaranteed year. Not the million dollars. But I don't really care. I'm so stoked we got Dunn that we could extend Juan Pierre 5 years and I wouldn't complain (I'm lying my f***ing ass off. But you get the point). You heard it here!! Lets start campaigning to get Juan Pierre extended to 2016, with $20 mil deferred to 2017-2036!

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 11:28 AM) So where does it put the payroll for next year? Cue Kalapse...
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 11:19 AM) So as of right now we have pretty much the same exact offensive lineup from last year except Dunn replaces Kotsay...right? Well, we can NEVER replace the grittyness of one Mark Kotsay...
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 11:03 AM) The Cubs are committed to Carlos Pena for nothing in 2012 or 2013, or 2014-2019, for that matter. I hardly call 0.9% of a normal payroll 'committed' from 2014-2019...I mean seriously man, c'mon. If you don't like the 3rd year, ok that can be argued I guess?..but calling out the deferred money is kinda silly.

30 doubles, 30 homers, .350 OBP, Definitive Team Captain...thats reason enough for the pricetag. I mean, Dunn and Konerko both for under $30 mill a year and people are still complaining?

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 10:52 AM) It's around $12.5M as is but Paulie has an option to take over Roger Bossard's duties cutting the grass for an additional $1.5M per year. Not Bossard! Hawk would have a coronary if he didn't have Bossard's grass cutting skills to be in awe of.
-
The deal is believed to be worth about $14MM per year, tweets Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse. Now, I hope it is closer to 12.5 than 14, but we'll see...

Donkey-Kong Days are here, at last.
-
OK, at 37.5 over 3, there shouldn't be anyone on this board complaining. And our offense, is intact. Get us an arm or 3, and lets win this G.D. division.

Kong is Jerry's guy, we all know he is going to do just about everything he can to make sure he is playing on the Southside next year. Lets just hope he can get Landis to make, at least SOME concessions on the demands.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 06:02 PM) Rangers are shopping Michael Young around to save money for Lee. Isn't he someone Kenny has been linked with in the past? 16 mil a season for the next 3 years. That'd be payroll suicide.
-
Well...it would/will be weird not seeing #14 manning first base, but if his demands are $15 mill per, then so be it. That is just too much to tie up for 3 years IMO.

QUOTE (jphat007 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 05:21 PM) You guys are pretty crazy to think that Jenks is going to come crawling back to take little money. Somebody is going to give him some cash. True, closers with WHIPs that approach 1.5 are in pretty high demand these days.

Yeah, we got our asses kicked today, but don't let that undersell what we accomplished. Beating Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and at Florida was a big thing for us. As week, returning 8 on off, 8 on def, 2 of which are Alshon and Lattimore, the future is still bright. -
Great deal, pays for AJ and gets rid of the pitcher disguised as Bruiser from the Oceans 11 trilogy.
-
Linebrink gone, Dunn signed?.....call the offseason 75% successful already!
-
OK, since I'm too lazy to look it up in this monster thread....what are we looking at, payroll wise? I'm assuming the hopes are that we find a way to get PK back at first, and say goodbye to Jenks.

It is fairly simple IMO. If your amateur status is put in jeopardy, the team you are on has no bearing, well shouldn't. Who cares what team paid/didn't pay/agreed to pay, blah blah blah...if you are linked to a pay-for-play scheme, whether you were directly involved or not, your amateur status is in jeopardy. The NCAA, as always, protects its cash cow for now, and opens itself up for a very slippery slope of what is right and wrong. No matter, I'd rather beat the fkers with $cam Newton playing this Saturday, anyways. -

I'm not ready to hand the SEC title to Auburn just yet...
