2014-2015 NFL Football thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 12:50 PM) Stephen A Smith comments on how women need to do more to avoid provoking men into violence. His words. (used word "provocation" repeatedly). It amazes me that a college educated person would go on television and actually say that.

2014-2015 NFL Football thread
No prior history shouldn't come into play with some offenses. Wife beating is one. I guess it works that way in multiple sports. Chuck Knoblauch had to beat up 2 wives before the Twins pulled the plug on his Twins HOF ceremony. Beating one was OK.

2014-2015 NFL Football thread
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 01:51 PM) I doubt anyone would know about it if you were just Kyle and not a professional athlete. No, but if you wind up on the front page or on the news with video of you dragging your beat until put to sleep wife across a hall by her hair, your employment status has a good chance of changing.

2014-2015 NBA thread
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 11:34 AM) RUMOR Bulls receive: Kevin Martin, Tristan Thompson, Dion Waiters Cavs receive: Kevin Love, Mike Dunleavey Jr, Gorgui Dieng Timberwolves receive: Andrew Wiggins, John Lucas III, Erik Murphy, Taj Gibson, Tony Snell There's a better chance DRose becomes the Cal Ripken of the NBA than that trade happening.

Phillies willing to send most of $70 million contract to deal How
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 11:05 AM) Or Phillies willing to feed Howard Subway for life if he'll just go away Howard is so bad, Subway doesn't put him in the commercials anymore.

Rangel Ravelo
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 10:23 AM) I keep hoping he turns out like Maggs. I never remember hype around him and he just hit and hit and hit. Obviously different positions and I'm not comparing too but hoping this can be the case. I was also very young at the time so maybe Maggs was hyped and I never knew it. I just remember him coming up and hitting from the very start. Mags definitely wasn't hyped, in fact, he was exposed to the rule 5 one year and everyone passed. Then he started hitting. The story of Maggs signing with the White Sox was pretty incredible as well. I guess he tried out with Houston but they passed. A White Sox scout was supposed to try Maggs out and was late for several hours without any contact, but Maggs stayed and waited and it paid off for him and the team. You hope someone could come out of nowhere and be great. It's just been so long since the Sox developed a really good hitter.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 10:55 AM) Who would you rather have in your lineup? Ryan Howard: .224/.305/.377/.682, brings nothing else to the table Mysterious Man: .235/.306/.359/.665, 13 SBs, 68% SB% De Aza.

Only 5 back in the Wild Card
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 10:26 AM) Classic "buyers or sellers" situation. If we do buy and make the playoffs, this team still wouldn't make it out of the wild card round. If Sale was pitching, I'd love the Sox chances against any team. The problem with deadline trades, at least according to an article I read that claimed significant research, they very rarely actually push you over the top and help you win a WS. Just for the Sox, I guess you can say Blum helped the Sox win, but they probably win without him. Charles Johnson was maybe the Sox best midseason acquisition in 2000, but they were quickly eliminated. Julio Cruz helped the 83 team, but they won by 20 games, I doubt he made that much difference.

Garcia cleared for baseball activity
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 10:15 AM) Everytime I see video of Avi doing fielding drills, whether it be from a few weeks ago in Boston, or yesterday during his feet-first sliding drills in Minny, he is ALWAYS failing to catch the ball. I find that kind of funny that they couldn't have filmed any drills with him actually catching the ball. The sliding fail from yesterday ended with him taking off his mitt and slamming it to the ground. Nice SOT. I saw the one from the Boston series where they showed him dropping a ball. You do have to wonder why they couldn't record something else.

2014 Cubs Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (farmteam @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 10:18 AM) Outside of Abreu, I don't think any of those guys were expected to have the Baez/Bryant/Schwarber power tool. More like 30-HR range at peak. Hawkins has that power.

2014 Cubs Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (farmteam @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 10:08 AM) Although the chances of this actually happening are incredibly tiny, it is nuts to think the Cubs could have 3 40+ HR guys in the middle of their lineup in Bryant, Schwarber and Baez. That's not even counting Rizzo. Baez looks like the most likely to bust. He seems an all-or-nothing type -- either he's an 8-time all star or he doesn't even stick in the majors. I've read a couple people on here think Baez could bust. He's 1 year older than Courtney Hawkins and really starting to pick it up in AAA. If he was a White Sox prospect, I doubt there would be bust talk, but rather Jose Abreu protection. I hope he busts, but I think it's really unlikely. I think he's a sure-fire major leaguer whose floor as long as he doesn't get hurt, is an average hitter.

Sox vs Twins
QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 09:07 PM) Eaton is fun to watch. I think the only concern is health--if he only plays 120 games a year, somebody else has to pick up those games. Time will tell if he's more durable than that. That is the only question.

Sox vs Twins
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 09:02 PM) Gordon Beckham has things figured out finally and should get a contract extension. SoxTalk two months ago. Find one post that stated anything about a contract extension.

7/23 Games
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 08:58 PM) Was Ross Gload a contributor? I'm sure his path was even more circuitous. Gload played in the major leagues as a 24 year old.

Sox vs Twins
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 08:52 PM) Fuld just gave Beckham a double there by getting turned around and taking a bad route. So that makes up for some of his "hard outs" recently. LMAO. I know you're a Beckham hater, but this is ridiculous. Beckham smoked the ball and Fuld had no chance.

Sox vs Twins
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 08:45 PM) Noesi's out there just pitching. Not trying to be too cute or fine or anything. It works here. Hopefully the rest of the staff will look and realize they aren't exactly facing the Tigers offense the rest of this series.

7/23 Games
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 08:45 PM) Categorically discounting every minor league prospect because they're older than Dayan Viciedo (or comparing their development arcs) makes even less sense. Soon to be 26 year olds in the minor leagues who have never sniffed the majors, face long odds of being comtributors.

Sox vs Twins
I think De Aza heard footsteps.

7/23 Games
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 08:03 PM) But that definition, we should just release 60% of our AAA and AA rosters. The Purge 3. You make no sense. Most of your minor league system will never play an inning in the major leagues.

7/23 Games
QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 07:18 PM) Plenty of people (including me) would have said 'if he can simply keep hitting how he has for the past month and a half, he could be brought up when Dunn leaves.' Well he's obviously done way better than that. Even if he "cools off" back to his June level of hitting .300 with power he's worth the call up. I think he may be a more valuable baseball player than Viciedo right now and in 2015 and on. Being left-handed matters. A lot. He is older than Viciedo.

No Dunn trade talk?
QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 07:44 PM) Then what is Kendrys Morales? I need to understand. Chick with a nice body with the but her face. If you play your cards correctly, you don't have to see the face.
