QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 11:35 AM) I am in the minority but I think a 23 year old Lance Stephenson at the 2, to go with Dougie McBuckets and the top euro player (along with bringing back DJ) would still be pretty good and would be a team that could win it all. Favored to make finals, depends on what happens with Lebron, but that is a very very good team. I can see where a team that won 48 games basically adds 2 lottery players in a draft considered strong, and a former MVP who is still only about 25 would be considered exceptional. (Think if Hahn was able to add the baseball equivalent to an 87 win team). But I do think if they whiff on the big names, at least one of Gar/Pax has to go. It might not be their fault, but it is too many whiffs. You have to bring someone here who can get guys to say yes.

Did anyone see the article where Fran Fraschilla said Mirotic, if he was in this draft, would have gone top 4? Said he is as NBA ready as Parker. He also said he isn't Nowitzki, at least not yet, but right now he is a young Turkoglu.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 11:01 AM) You should write a correction request to the Seattle Times, then. Although I think informing Heyman that Danks had a shoulder/rotator cuff surgery and not TJ would be a more worthwhile use of time. Really? They put damn you Ventura in their story? Tank was lifted for a pinch runner.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 10:23 AM) If you noticed on Saturday, he was pinch hit for against a righty reliever (damn you, Ventura!!!). But the Mariners need a guy who can hit lefties. Wrong.

A NY writer said all the James to Cleveland hype is being generated by the Cavs to save face for losing him in 2010. I don't really buy that, but if it is true and it basically shames LeBron to come back, it's a genius move.

When Does Flowers Get Replaced As Everyday Catcher?
Dick Allen replied to Feeky Magee's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Flowers has to be better than was he has been doing. There is no way he is this bad. He's bad, just not Bartolo Colon bad offensively. I know he is very popular in the organization. He works hard and is a good guy. That gets you a longer rope. I still think he would be a fine back up. Playing catcher regularly isn't like other positions. The beating, and just the wearing of the equipment on hot days, let alone other catcher responsibilities wears on you. It's another reason why a guy like AJP was more valuable than his numbers. They kept the below replacement off the field. If Nieto started catching 5 or 6 days a week at the major league level, he would most likely start looking ridiculous at this point in his career. I do think though, there is a point when they have to say enough is enough. Maybe they are hoping Flowers can put something together at least good enough so he can keep his job until the roster expand. I think if they could send Nieto down, we would be seeing Phegley get a lot of time right now. -
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 08:06 AM) There's a good chance we lose Friday & Saturday for no other reason than I am traveling to Cleveland for the weekend and will be at the games. I swear the Sox are something like 2-10 in games I've attended Saturday is probably a given just because it's Saturday. But a loss on Friday is totally on you.

It's not like Garcia will be ready to go in a week or 2. I can't imagine he can play before September.

QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 09:24 PM) What other team would put up with a streak like that? He was leading the league in hitting at one point.
-
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 09:06 PM) Flowers another quality at bat. 9 for his last 102 with 49 strikeouts. I don't remember a position player with a streak so bad.

QUOTE (Knuckles @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 01:28 PM) If you are Jerry Reinsdorf and you are attending a wedding last weekend and you are being asked about Melo. Do you tell the truth? Lie on purpose? Or simply say don't know? These days, if he didn't totally know you, I would venture he would say I don't know. Before the internet, my dad knows Jerry Vaniesi, he was the Bears GM, and he would tell them stuff when playing cards, like how right after they won the Super Bowl they offered TB McMahon and their #1 which I think was Neal Anderson for the #1 so they could draft Vinnie. I also went to a spring training game in Fort Lauderdale almost 30 years ago, White Sox vs. Yankees, and Roland Hemond sat next to us. He was telling us all sorts of things, like how the Sox had a trade worked out for Doug DeCinces but the doctors said his back was too messed up so they wound up passing. I think these days, both would probably be a little more careful.

Sox willing to deal Beckham in "right deal now"

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 01:02 PM) Jordan Danks is pretty clearly not a replacement for anyone. Maybe for Jake at State Farm. -
QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 12:35 PM) Has he conquered the International League? Perhaps not. The facts are he was 18% more productive than the average hitter in the PCL last year and then he went up and played a month in the bigs in which he appeared plenty prepared as well. Everything about this season screams "external factors" and that now appears to be the case as he is figuring things out. I continue to think as I did before the season that the next logical step in his development is to play in the big leagues. Does that mean that he can't continue development in AAA? No. You can get better at baseball anywhere. Dealing with this adversity has already paid off, if you believe some of the things he's been saying. This is why we have league-adjusted statistics. The average hitter in the PCL isn't going to be a starter in the major leagues. He did well in Reno, but their team put up .283/.342/.428.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 12:11 PM) Oh come on. You are taking one partial sentence from his post where he obviously meant something else and then turning into a parade of horribles. This is not discussion. What else did he mean? He said the guy already conquered AAA, he is just in a slump. He said he is so advanced he cannot develop anymore at the minor league level.
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 10:41 AM) Ding ding ding. I don't see his start to the year as a logical part of his development and I think what we've seen lately is more like the real guy. Remember, Jared Mitchell hadn't been productive with a serviceable contact rate in AAA and MLB before he was promoted. Davidson has conquered every minor league level. It isn't a matter of his development at this point, but rather whether he has snapped out of his slump. So a guy on July 8th hitting .200 with 101 strikeouts has conquered AAA. I realize the Sox minor league system has been weak, but this shows just how bad it is.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 10:09 AM) If you accept that the start of this season was an aberration for him and his June performance, which is much more in line with his career numbers, is him, then I would start being willing to see him up in August. Depends on what he does for July of course. And his June numbers still are pretty similar to the year Mitchell had in AA when he was supposedly "rushed" to AAA. Davidson should finish out the minor league season, then see if he is worthy of a September call up.
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 09:25 PM) If Conor goes down, a large part of me wants Davidson up. However, I can imagine they might want to let him keep working down there since he's just started to turn around. I have the most interest otherwise in seeing Carlos Sanchez. He is not getting much love despite doing pretty well at a level where he remains one of the youngest players at a premium position and now showing flashes of power Check out Zaleski's stats So in one thread you blast the White Sox for "rushing" Mitchell, mentioning his k-rate. Davidson has a 31% k-rate and a .200 batting average and you want to see him up. This doesn't make any sense.

Sox willing to deal Beckham in "right deal now"
Dick Allen replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Q is a good pitcher who is signed for way below market rate for the forseeable future. If someone isn't willing to drastically overpay, there is zero reason to trade him. -
"Reinsdorf uses Bulls revenue to fund the Sox!"
Dick Allen replied to lostfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 08:22 AM) I'm not a lawyer or a financial guy, but I'm pretty sure his legal fiduciary duty to the shareholders of the Bulls would prevent him from taking revenues and profits from that business and funneling them towards a different one. He wouldn't be funneling Bulls money. He would be funneling his own. -
"Reinsdorf uses Bulls revenue to fund the Sox!"
Dick Allen replied to lostfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Bulls and White Sox are 2 separtate businesses, and although many of the names are the same, the ownership groups are different. There is nothing to prevent JR or any of his other partners from taking their Bulls payouts and throwing it at the White Sox, but that would be kind of silly. They both are turning a decent profit over the years. JR's statement that when he goes the family should keep the Bulls and sell the Sox is pretty sound, because the Bulls are pretty much idiot proof now. The Sox, not so much. -
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 07:14 AM) Yes, he was the GM for one disastrous season which saw 90 losses, the signings of 41-year old Steve Carlton and 37-year old George Foster, the firings of Tony La Russa and Dave Dombrowski, and the giving away of prospect Bobby Bonilla. But yes, even Hawk does not evaluate a player's performance solely on a single statistic. More exhaggeration. Carlton and Foster were picked up after they cleared waivers. White Sox fans for years had been calling for LaRussa's firing. Hawk did claim Bonilla as a rule 5, and traded him back to Pittsburgh for Jose DeLeon who eventually turned into Lance Johnson. Not exactly giving him away. He also traded a bunch of crap to Seattle for Ivan Calderon who was pretty productive and turned into Tim Raines. His horribleness as a GM is vastly overstated. One big reason he took over was the minor league system was even worse than it is now and the organization had no depth. The team was doomed in 1986. Seaver didn't want to be in Chicago and Britt Burns who Hawk did trade, never pitched again after a stellar 1985.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 09:15 PM) Flowers just needs to be released or sent down to AAA or just let Nieto start Nieto every day would be worse than Flowers at this time. Maybe in a year or two, but right now he would get eaten alive.

Abreu's head looks like a pumpkin compared to Sierra's.

The just showed Garcia taking some flyballs before the game. Of course he dropped it.
