  1. EJax was really good when he was a White Sox. And Paul Konerko was an all star calibur player at that time. Time has a way of changing things. I see zero reason to acquire Edwin Jackson.
  2. CSN just had a Bulls commercial on. If ever you are feeling down always remember it could be worse. You could look like Gar Forman.
  3. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 04:24 PM) I think usually the cause of vertigo is an inner ear infection. Or watching his bullpen
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 02:51 PM) See, I actually think Dunn is a good fit for Seattle. If you look at his spray charts, more than 2/3 of his HR would still easily clear the fences in Seattle. When he hits them as we all know, he hits them a long way. Moving to Seattle would cost him a few HR but since his go 420 feet pretty often they'd still leave the park pretty often. That's assuming the ball has the same carry in the 2 parks, but generally, guys like Dunn aren't going to have their HR totals damaged too much by ballpark effect as long as the dimensions don't change their swing and approach. He doesn't hit too many that wind up in the first couple of rows.
  5. Hinrich has a better career shooting pct. than Augustin and they are identical with the 3. So if he can't shoot, neither can DJ, and DJ can't play D so it's a good thing they didn't sign him instead.
  6. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 02:18 PM) No, I'm not acting like that at all. I'm questioning the allocation of resources to a s*** backup PG for the BAE when more interesting moves were available, or players with different skill sets (offense) were available. Other bulls fans, who liked the offseason, need to convince themselves that because they like Doug and Nikola, that Kirk must also have been a good addition because they like to feel good and not think of anything bad. But Kirk sucks, we know he sucks because we've watched him suck, and this season when he dribbles in circles for 20 minutes and can't get the ball to our incredible second line of shooters, we will hear about how Kirk sucks on this very board that is so happy we used our last bit of attractive flexibility on Kirk Hinrich. What game changers were available in Hinrich's price range?
  7. I think if the Sox choice was Rodon or Aiken they still would have taken Rodon due to college vs. HS arm. If Hoffman were in the equation, I think they would have gone Hoffman over Aiken as well. I am not sure they would have gone Hoffman over Rodon baseball-wise. They may have based on signing bonus.
  8. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 12:01 PM) He was absolutely phenomenal on the road last year though too. It'd be risky, but I think, if the price is right, it'd be a risk worth taking. I obviously disagree that he wouldn't get near the .825-.850 OPS, but I don't believe that's worth arguing about anymore. I think someone like the Yankees or Red Sox would assume more of that risk while including the same or more as the White Sox, so I think it's a moot point, but he absolutely is a very talented player. BTW, his DL stint this year had to deal with a tumor being removed from his finger. I strongly doubt that's going to be a reoccuring injury. He has only played more than 135 games once in his career. I already showed you his career splits. Yes, he was great last year on the road. This year, he's been Tyler Flowers minus the 7 for 7. An over 200 point difference for a career is pretty unheard of just being the product of being at home. I think Yaz has the biggest home/away split in the HOF, and it's nowhere near Gargo's.
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 10:23 AM) 20M per season for a potential .825 - .850 OPS seems like overspend. I guess technically it is 16 or 17 and scaling upwards but still. There is a lot of risk getting Car Go, although the tools are definitely nice. I think the .825-.850 OPS not playing at Coors is way too optimistic, and to add, this guy tends to get hurt a lot. I really don't know why people who have been trying to save JR's money the past several years would want to blow it what appears to be a pretty good bet at a train wreck.
  10. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 10:37 AM) You just think Lebron is bailing? I don't think so. He even talked about in his letter how he was in it to win 1 title (I'm sure he wants more) but he knew it would be a long-term move and play. He's waiting 2 years to get a fatter contract, unless of course, the next two years are total disasters, but if they are, it probably means something has happened to Lebron. Giving up Bennett, Wiggins, and a future 1st is just not a smart long-term move, imo. You need to have a good defense to win a title, imo, and they will not have that with their planned construction. Yeah, I can't see LeBron ever bailing on Cleveland again. These short term deals with the one year opt out, are just to max his money IMO.
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 10:35 AM) I kept it recent, but outside of getting Wiggins, this is probably not going to work out well for Minnesota. And even if they get Wiggins, he will probably just bide his time until it is his turn to force a trade, and the cycle begins anew The uniqueness is the #1 overall pick. Seeing how Love is going to bail on Minnesota anyway, I really don't know how they turn down Wiggins myself. Certainly ask for more, but in the end, if you can't get it, take Wiggins before training camp starts and Love can hurt himself. And like you said, the cycle will start all over again.
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 10:11 AM) Which really didnt do much for either party. And going back to Minnesotas haul for Garnett and all the way through Orlandos haul for Howard, trading for a star player really kind of sucks for the star trading team. Trading stars in the NBA for a package of non star players rarely works out for the team giving up the star, going back to the Bucks trading Kareem.
  13. The White Sox don't have an heir apparent in their system to Alexei. Trading him for decent, not great prospects considering he has a fairly team friendly contract for the next couple of years seems like something people want because they like new names, but next year at this time will be wondering why they did that. Unless a team wants to overpay, having a quality SS on your team really isn't a burden. The White Sox shouldn't be into the waste another year of Sale, Abreu, Q business to pick up the Leury Garcias the world. (Even though I do like Leury a lot more than others, and think he can be a really nice piece off the bench for a winning team) Actually hurting your defense up the middle, with a new SS and most likely a new 2B, isn't helping your pitching at all. So you better be getting some really good pieces or it makes no sense.
  14. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 08:41 AM) Players, in general, always hit worse on the road. That can change from year to year. If the Sox stadium played more like SafeCo or PetCo, I'd be more alarmed, but he's played in one of the best hitter's parks in the majors. Tulo's numbers are similarly split, as were Holliday's when he was there. To clarify, I wouldn't give up a ton due to the assumed risk, and I'd ask that they do include some money (primarily to offset the $20 million salary in '17), but I do think he could be worth the risk. For the last several years USCF has played as a relatively neutral park, except for home runs. This year for some reason, home runs are actually below league average. Perhaps the prevailing winds out of the east is the cause, but wind direction never really seemed significant in previous seasons. You can say Cargo's numbers really have nothing to do with Coors Field, just a fairly normal home/away split. I disagree. What I gave you is his career split. His OPS is over 200 points higher at home vs. on the road for his career.. .330/.387/.601 vs. .260/.316/.442 That's HOFer vs. Dayan Viciedo
  15. .259/.303/.427 Dayan Viciedo's career numbers .260/.316/.442 Cargo's career numbers on the road. Unless there is a quirk and the Sox go to Coors Field 80 times a year, I don't see why you would want Cargo's contract, especially if you don't think Viciedo is worth what they pay him.
  16. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 20, 2014 -> 05:36 PM) I actually think it's a very valid question - is Konerko the worst baserunner of all time or just one of the worst? Well, he's the worst. Not the worst. If you can knock yourself in almost 500 times, that makes some worse.
  17. Hoes was hitting .170. I guess that doesn't matter.
  18. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 19, 2014 -> 01:32 PM) So I live near Wrigley and last night was the first time in a while I could remember actually hearing the crowd at the stadium, so I originally thought "i guess they still do have fans." turns out it was a billy joel concert, lol. Yet what they average this year has only been topped by the White Sox 4 times,.
  19. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 19, 2014 -> 01:39 PM) You don't read his stuff but you act like he's subjective in his writing about the Astros? What was said in there that isn't true? If you don't like Keith Law that's totally fine and understandable but if you don't think he was objective then you didn't read the piece. I have read the little posted. If you think if every other team in baseball did the same thing, he would write the same piece, that's fine. I don't.
  20. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 19, 2014 -> 11:32 AM) Why would that have anything to do with this? He turned down that job. Wanted to be with his family and he has a pretty cake job at ESPN. Because he is buddy buddy with some of the Astros FO. If the regime that dumped him in Toronto was still around and they pulled this, I am sure his take would be a little different. It is funny a guy who thought Chris Sale and Jose Abreu were White Sox mistakes, gets so much respect. He is a clown.
  21. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 19, 2014 -> 10:08 AM) http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/keith-law/...-a-total-fiasco That is Keith Law's take and it's an Insider article. Keith basically talks about how there are no winners in the situation. He advocates for a July draft so they can have a combine of some sorts to check all players medically but references how it would mess with schedules for short season ball and colleges. Law said that the Astros didn't feel comfortable with the "abnormality" and he went into it. He also said that the Marlins, Cubs, and White Sox would have gladly taken Aiken anyway though. He talked about the deal with Nix but basically said that they couldn't give him the $1.5 million because he's good but nobody is good enough to forfeit next year's 1st and 2nd rounder for. Law has been against the current draft structure and I agree. The new rules have obviously helped the White Sox and I'm selfishly grateful for that. However, I hate the slotting. I preferred when teams could pay whatever they wanted. But obviously that's just me. did he put in a disclaimer that the Astros offered him a job a couple of years ago?
  22. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 05:20 PM) It would be funny/unfortunate if the Astros had the 1 and 2 picks in next year's draft considering Aiken needs to go very high to get more than he turned down They can't draft him again without his permission.
  23. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 04:26 PM) Evan Drellich ‏@EvanDrellich 53s “We tried to engage Casey Close three times today … there was no interest” — GM Jeff Luhnow tells the Chronicle Reply 3 Retweet Favorite As if they have not tried to f*** him over enough, now they hint agent not advisor.
