QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 22, 2014 -> 08:57 AM) Good thing Tanaka's wifes LA pop career figured in so much to this. And the close travel to Japan Flight time to Tokyo from LA 10 hours, from Chicago 11.5 hours, from NYC 13 hours. Really not much different especially if you are in first class with a bed.
-
If you were OK with 6 and 120, 7 and 155 isn't too much different. I want to know what the Cubs offer was? What is Cubbie blogger saying now? Bruce, I thought the Cubs were the "lead team"?
-
Too bad. Now I hope he sucks. The problem with the 4 year opt out is then it basically costs you $5 million extra per year with the posting fee. Hopefully in a few years Tanaka will look back and say he should have signed with the White Sox, but the Yankees were desperate. They probably would have paid him whatever it took. I like the White Sox agressiveness, and Hahn is either a great actor or really thought he had a shot. This bodes well for the future IMO.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 03:07 PM) Dice-K could have been good if his body didnt fall apart. Yeah, he had one really nice year. 18-3 2.90 ERA

The author agreed to a phone conversation strickly about the science of the putter and not the scientist. Then Dr. V started volunteering this false information which couldn't be verified, and ultimately led to a background check. Unless she left a note which wasn't reported, how can Kahrl and anyone else say without a doubt the reason for her suicide was she was about to be outed as a transgender? She attempted before for a different reason. Maybe she did it because her Dr. V fantasy with the fact degrees, stealth bomber work...was about to be exposed as fake. Sure he seemed unstable when he asked on a follow up conversation to verify her personal information, but as was stated by her investor, that was par for the course when not doing everything her way. I didn't take away her being a transgender was mentioned to make her look weird, I think it was mentioned because it was part of the story trying to verify information she happily volunteered.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 01:38 PM) If it's down to the Cubs and Yankees, I hope he signs with the Cubs. Stay out of the league. Go to a bad team. I hope he is Darvish with the Sox. Dice-K with the Dodgers, Yankees, D-Backs, Irabu with the Cubs.
-
If you want to feel like an insider tweet your sources say it's down to the Dodgers, Yankees and Cubs. Pretty good chance you will be correct, and then you will be able to post BS for years, and people will believe you. Someone will always point out you had the Tanaka stuff spot on.

QUOTE (dayan024 @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 01:26 PM) David Schuster @Schumouse 4m The YES Network in NY is reporting that it's down to the Yankees and the Cubs for Tanaka While it may be accurate, the source is a Yankee blogger.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 12:02 PM) As an Illinois fan, that Cliff Alexander move was so classless. I don't know.........It is a move that is done over and over again. I don't think it was meant to be a dig at Illinois, just something that creates more suspense.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 11:36 AM) Why is MLB radio saying it's down to LA, Cubs, D-backs and Yankees? They asked Bruce Levine.
-
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 11:21 AM) WFAN Sports Radio @WFAN660 20sec Report: Masahiro Tanaka has also confirmed to his agent Casey Close he will "seikou his wife" on the mound with the media at hand after signing to his preferred club. If that means turn her into an ice sculpture, the Sox are in good shape.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 09:44 AM) So, if you opt for a 2 point conversion, do you get 9 points or still 8? You get 8, but if you fail, your 7 becomes 6.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 09:35 AM) Well at least now we know what The Score's sources are... twitter. It's better than the Cubs blogger or Bruce Levine who said in the same breath the Cubs were the lead team and no one knows what each others offers are.
-
So the Score can't even get Tanaka's tweet right, unless Bernstein's source told them he made a decision.

2013-14 off season player movement thread
Dick Allen replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Diamond Club
He was losing weight during the season last year. The Yankees suspected it may have contributed to his bad season. We will see, but he looks like a different guy. -
QUOTE (oldsox @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 08:14 AM) I wonder if we could have gotten Castro for Addison Reed? Just wondering. Does anyone here know if Hahn shopped Reed at all, or did he quickly close on the deal when Davidson was made available? I'm guessing the Astros weren't in the market of trading their breakout catcher for a closer.

Kaplan just said the NFL might force the Bears to be the next Hard Knocks team.

QUOTE (TitoMB @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 05:46 PM) Who WOULDN'T want to live in LA?! I moved out here from Chicago 2 years ago, and I love it. I totally see why she'd want to live here. BTW I'm wearing flip flops and shorts today, and it's actually hot in my office. How's the weather in Chi-town? They would be spending the winter in Japan. It is really hard to beat Chicago in the summer with all it has to offer. Even Charles Barkley refers to Chicago as the greatest summer city in the US, and Chicago usually wins favorite city when they ask MLB players. As a resident, I agree, Chicago sucks in the winter.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 05:24 PM) FWIW, Sherman apologized for the comments. I like that. He isn't the first to say something stupid in the heat of the moment.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 05:26 PM) The thing about Quintana is that is very likely at his absolute peak. He's already gained velocity and his control is his best attribute, so if he's going to regress at all, its' almost certainly going to be downward. Best case scenario for him is maintain. The good news is generally when you regress, it is downward.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 05:16 PM) It was never said that she wants to live in L.A. because she's a Japanese pop star. Yes it was. And the flight is only 1.5 hours longer. In first class, that is nothing.
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 05:10 PM) LA is arguably the entertainment capital of the world, so if she cares about her career shell probably have way more opportunities living in LA than Chicago. Not many aspiring musicians/movie stars move to Chicago, thats just a fact. Again, how many Japanese pop stars are currently working in LA? As far as I can tell when looking through my Directv, there aren't any Japanese programs produced in the USA. She is going to do her work in Japan. If she supposedly prefers LA for her career, she is fooling herself.
-
What is the need for Japanese pop stars are ther in LA? I am guessing none.

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 05:00 PM) Pleading ignorance on all of this, but at this stage, is there any possibility of a stealth candidate? Is there any chance we will wake up in the next few days and read that the Red Sox or Angels or Rangers swooped in and signed this guy? How do we know for certain no other team than who has been reported all along didn't also make a "real" offer? Definitely.
