Game Thread 5/20: BOS @ SOX
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ May 20, 2013 -> 08:47 PM) The holes in this lineup are miles deep... Tey have 6 runs in 5 innings vs a guy who has dominated the rest of the league this year. The bats are coming around.

QUOTE (Jake @ May 20, 2013 -> 08:45 PM) Gillaspie-Soptic Forgot about that one. Was Gillaspie technically a major leaguer when he was traded?

Keppinger has been hitting a little better lately. I wonder if there is anything with Beckham playing SS tonight other than to get hi some ABs.

Has Hahn made a major league trade as a GM yet? It might be a record.

Reinsdorf family succession plan
Initially I think Reinsdorf owned a very small percentage, but had all the power. I believe his stake has increased over the years. We probably will never know, but I have heard many investors have wanted to sell for years, but their requests were rejected by JR. He made them more money as the price of the franchise has skyrocketed. It has to be peaking here shortly, so if they were to sell, that would probably be the time.

5/19 Game Thread! Sox vs. Halos
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 19, 2013 -> 03:28 PM) Seemed to me more them having him played poorly, way around the other way, than sleeping. Another missed cutoff man though. If you look at the replay, it was a lack of effort from Keppinger that caused the cutoff to be "missed." And it may have been a blessing. I wouldn't put the odds of Keppinger throwing him out at very good, so the guy would have had 3rd and the Angels would have had another out to play with.

Danks could start Friday vs Miami
QUOTE (Jake @ May 19, 2013 -> 08:41 AM) Sanchez was Rule V, so he has to be sent back to previous team if he's not on our 25 man. Also plays SS, switch hits, and has more potential to become a starting caliber player (unlikely he does that, though) He has to be offered back, but will they want him back, and if they do what really are the Sox losing? He is 29 years old, a little better tha Greene defensively, but Greene can at least hit LHP pretty well. Greene will probably go down so they have thwm both in case they need them, but losing either one most likely doesn't matter, and If I had to choose, I think Greene can help you more. If Greene were acquired before the rule 5 draft, I bet Sanchez would not have been selected.

5/18 White Sox @ Angels
As ridiculous as McCarver has been over the years, i think he has been really good today.

5/18 White Sox @ Angels
The Sox should be winning this game by a rather large amount right now.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 18, 2013 -> 04:36 PM) Hector will be lucky to go 5. He throws a lot of pitches.

QUOTE (Baron @ May 18, 2013 -> 04:29 PM) Alright I guess I better go buy lottery tickets. I could use a little spare change. Don't bother. I have it won. I'm totally due to win the lottery. I have never one won before.

You play with fire, eventually you get burned.

Well, the first trade Peavy to the Dodgers article is here
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 17, 2013 -> 10:48 AM) And I just don't see how that's the case. At midseason, Peavy will only be due $21 million or so over the next year and a half. Plenty of teams have deep enough pockets to suddenly absorb that. We aren't talking about the AGon/Crawford contracts here. A lot of teams have already spent the funds budgeted for the season or very close to it. Trading Peavy would require teams to pick up 6-7 million in salary this season. It would limit the amount of suitors and probably also limit the return.

2013 AL Central Catch All thread
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 16, 2013 -> 11:34 AM) http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-leag...-232521671.html Should Mariano Rivera START the All-Star Game? I know, this is MLB Catch-All, but someone commented about the Yankees and their patchwork line-up. Can't believe he's going to retire after fighting to come back from the knee and he's still the best reliever in the game at his age. Or will it be another Andy Pettite/Roger Clemens situation where he keeps coming back? He's a one pitch pitcher. If he's still got it, and loves to pitch, he should play until he can't.

The Astros are horrid. 2 BB and a HBP to load the bases.

QUOTE (bbilek1 @ May 15, 2013 -> 02:51 PM) Arguable. He was going away and getting singles all of the 2nd half last year but had no power whatsoever. He also was playing with a wrist that required surgery.

Tank has always been really streaky. You might as well ride him when he's hot. Konerko will start hitting again.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ May 15, 2013 -> 01:34 PM) Keppinger's performance (or lack thereof) will probably make for an easy decision when Beckham comes back. Gillaspie deserves to see the bulk of starts at 3B. I'm sure Keppinger is going to the bench, unless of course there is yet another injury or he starts to hit. But he can't be this bad.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 15, 2013 -> 01:32 PM) I enjoy him when I get a chance to listen to him. Yes, but he doesn't explain why the team with guys he can't understand why the team signed and with pitchers who have nothing to get you out, happen to be winning the game.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 15, 2013 -> 01:27 PM) Best opposite field power since Roberto Clemente/Miguel Cabrera. Waiting for Harrelson commentary about how the ball just jumps off his bat, lol. But yeah, whoever said Rios is our only above-average hitter, okay... "They signed this guy (Keppinger) to a three-year deal, and I just don't get it." Twins' announcers Bert Blyleven tells it like it is, at least regarding Twins opponents.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 15, 2013 -> 01:27 PM) Anyone else nervous that Tanks agent is Bor-ASS come contract extension time? Still a few years away from that making much of a difference. Hopefully Tank learns to stay off high fastballs. He'd be a monster.

I think it's very telling Hawk has made zero excuses for Keppinger. I think he is silently questioning his effort.
