  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 20, 2013 -> 06:46 PM) Who is going to pay him more than 2 million? That's what the Bears offered him,a nd wouldn't budge according to 54. He said he was willing to ply for $3-3.5 million.
  2. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Mar 19, 2013 -> 08:04 PM) It's too soon in this contract extension for smiley faces SS2K5. Maybe by year 4 I'll feel differently. Another funny thing, Marty wanted the Sox to sign Grienke. He's going on the DL and was a lot more expensive than Danks. Even if he got what he wanted, he would have complained.
  3. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Mar 20, 2013 -> 11:45 AM) This article tries to provide some perspective by citing comparative injuries: http://www.southsidesox.com/2013/3/20/4125...urgery-pitchers Interesting, but they claim Danks' injury is most like Santana's. Santana came back last year and was pretty awesome the first 3 months. He even pitched a no hitter. He then hurt an ankle and was horrible. I don't know how much of that horrible can be attributed to his shoulder. I think it's way too early to be worried about Danks.
  4. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 20, 2013 -> 08:22 AM) Now Ald. Tunney says, Go ahead and install a Jumbotron, just tear down that old scoreboard in centerfield. The rooftop owners have to be putting his kids' grandkids' grandkids through college. I wonder why they think Cubs fans would revolt if they tore down that scoreboard. I bet a good percentage of people in the stands have no idea what it even is.
  5. The instant results expected are hilarious. If Danks doesn't have an ERA under 2.00 in spring training, 7 months after shoulder surgery, he's toast. Obviously we all would like Danks to get a few more outs. But 88-89 at this point seems encouraging as he builds up arm strength. He's obviously going to be rusty and not have his command, and breaking balls don't break much in AZ. Sale has an inflated ERA. I still think there's a chance he's on the team opening day, but if not, assumming no setbacks,I doubt what you see is what he is and will be.
  6. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 19, 2013 -> 11:53 AM) The problem is that rule is a bunch of crap. Blake Griffin and Lebron and a million other guys get a ton of alley oops right near the rim and they never get called for it. Had Noah grabbed that ball and dunked it, they would have won the game. The other problem is that they initially called it a basket, meaning they shouldn't have reviewed it. It should have been a non-reviewable call, bucket good, Bulls win. Really though the Bulls have themselves to blame and they were lucky to get to OT. Their defense last night (and for several weeks now) has been turrible. I agree. A ton of alley oops are technically goaltending. If that were a pass and not a shot Noah tipped in, it wouldn't have been reviewed, and Denver probably wouldn't have even complained. But technically, it was the correct call IMO. They should just wipe out offensive basket interference.
  7. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 19, 2013 -> 11:53 AM) Well, his brand is all about being positive, catch-phrases, and adoring the Bulls. http://www.fansedge.com/Chicago-Bulls-Stac...4578449_PG.html It's in his best interest to make fans excited and happy. And then DRose comes back limping and Stacey looks like a fool. This wasn't during a game he mentioned it. It was at the Berto Center talking to a CSN guy not throwing out all his catch phrases (which I do get a kick out of). He was just reporting, saying he's looking really good. In fact, he was totally subdued.
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 19, 2013 -> 10:53 AM) And obviously Stacey King is never hyperbolic and always reliable source of info. Considering he's actually seen him in practice and really doesn't get any extra points for lying, I would consider him a reliable source.
  9. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Mar 19, 2013 -> 10:12 AM) Major injury, but it's very common these days. Rubio has been dominating lately, Shumpert seems as quick as he was before. Assuming Rose regains just 90% of his athleticism, with natural progression, improved basketball IQ and jumpshot, will be a top 3-5 player in the league, it's not out of reach. According to Stacey King, Rose is dominating practice and is very explosive. He'll be fine, once Reggie gives him the OK to suit up.
  10. Wade is probably a top 50 player of all time. The Heat became a totally different team when they went from Wade's team to LeBron's. They are almost unbeatable now. Someone is going to have to beat them 4 times in the playoffs. Good luck with that.
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 19, 2013 -> 09:15 AM) They were 32-7 in games Derrick Rose played, which means they were 18-9 in games he did not. That 32-7 is a 67 win pace over 82 games. Before Derrick Rose went down in game 1, people were talking about the Bulls as a legitimate contender, if not favorite, for the NBA Championship. After he went down, they lost 4 out of 5 to the 8 seed (though some of that is going to be emotional let down). And Noah also got hurt. Plus their bench was stronger last year than this and because of the condensed schedule, that had even more of an impact than normal.
  12. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 19, 2013 -> 09:00 AM) The Bulls, with a similar (but I acknowledge, a worse) roster, are 14 games worse this year at the 66 game point because they don't have Rose. Miami is 6 games better with a better and deeper roster while having had another year to fine tune their game. There's no one better nor more talented overall than LeBron, but you can absolutely make an argument that there is someone more valuable. What if Rose was on Miami and healthy and LeBron was on the Bulls? I love DRose. But even when healthy, he isn't nearly as valuable as LeBron.
  13. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 19, 2013 -> 08:50 AM) Anyone with a pulse came to the conclusion that LeBron = MVP about a month and a half ago. Just like with Jordan played, LeBron is the MVP every year. People just try to make a case for someone else every year, but most know who the real MVP is, if LeBron somehow wouldn't get it. There are several HOFers playing today. But there is no one more valuable than LeBron. Personally, I don't think there is anyone near him.
  14. QUOTE (Jake @ Mar 18, 2013 -> 10:08 PM) I think it is a horrendous rule regardless. I was trying to explain it to someone who doesn't really watch much basketball and it was like I was speaking Mandarin...it doesn't make sense unless someone says "this is just how it works now quit asking questions" I'm pretty sure there is no offensive goaltending in international rules.
  15. I have to say I thought they made the correct call on the goaltend.it looked to me like he touched it in the cylinder.
  16. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 18, 2013 -> 05:40 PM) Why? I said not to believe it multiple times. I even came on this site and asked why were people believing it? Not that I really care, its not like I post a ton of rumors and hope that people think Im a good source. Im not a good source, lets make that clear. You should get Marty to post on your site. His sources have Hahn bringing back Ozzie in a year or 2.
  17. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 18, 2013 -> 02:23 PM) Since when are blogs journalists? My dog could start a blog. Since the demise of the newspaper business, many former professional journalists are now bloggers. I guess the real question is why make it up? If it's just for the hits, I suppose that's a legit reason, but I would suspect those people won't be hitting that anymore.
  18. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 18, 2013 -> 02:17 PM) KC Johnson posting that the ever-evasive Thibs said "unlikely" means anything is a perfect example of journalists with unethical tactics these days. I would imagine KC can't remember a time when Thibs said unlikely and the guy actually played.
  19. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 18, 2013 -> 02:14 PM) Maybe he needs dictionary? Because unlikely does not equal no? Or is he just taking information and then using his opinion based on past/other information? Hmmm now Im starting to wonder whether any journalist actually just reports facts, or if they all mix in opinion. Interesting. He said in Thibs' speak, unlikely means he's not going to play. I would imagine covering him for several years and getting injury reports almost every day, he's basing his conclusion on the past. But even if it's 1 in a million, Lloyd Christmas would say there's a chance.
  20. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 18, 2013 -> 02:10 PM) BTW, this is the latest in the day that we've gone with no word of whether Rose is playing that evening. #THERETURN KC Johnson posted hours ago that Thibs said "unlikely". He also said that means he's out.
  21. QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 18, 2013 -> 01:14 PM) Joe Cowley? Inside sources? Hahahahaha. As soon as Joe finished him off, Oney gave Joe the info.
  22. Thibs says unlikely tonight. KC Johnson said that means he's out.
  23. QUOTE (Jake @ Mar 18, 2013 -> 09:56 AM) Nobody in the Sox organization would support a full rebuild. We will always try to make the current team as good as we can, within reason. The Sox will be willing to have seasons where they don't have a great outlook, but they never will intentionally gut the major league club. It's not good business to rebuild -- you should be as close to contending as possible as often as possible. This doesn't mean you can't trade a Carlos Quentin or save some money in offseasons in which you don't like the major free agents, but it means you wouldn't ever trade an Alexei Ramirez, Dayan, Sale, Rios or other major pieces (well paid and not) before a season like this one. If going the other way was totally hopeless, they might, but people need to realize if they ever do, it's a rather long process. The Sox were bad in 86,87,88 and 89 during the last total rebuild. That's with hitting the jackpot 4 times in the first round of the draft. By the end of the 1990 season, their 4 first round picks after those seasons were major contributors. That rarely happens. As much as some would love a total rebuild, they would be complaining about it pretty quickly.
  24. Stuff-wise, you can favorably compare a lot of guys to Buehrle. But a lot of them will make $100 million less during their careers. His command is what sets him apart. I also think how quickly he works helps him immensely. I still don't understand why hitters aren't constantly stepping out of the box on him, especially when he's on a roll. If Q has the command he had when he first came up, he will be really good. If not, he probably will be selling cars in a couple of years.
