  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 7, 2013 -> 01:54 PM) I don't understand a lot of the frustration over Rose not returning yet. I know everyone pointed to Shumpert's return as a sign that Rose is taking too long to recover, but Shumpert's playing about 20 minutes a night so far and doesn't look strong at all (terrible shooting percentage). At this point, I'm beginning to think it's best just to let Rose sit out remainder of the year. I think its beyond a longshot the Bulls can win if he comes back this season, but unless he's at a greater risk than normal to get re-injured, I think the only way he's going to get ready to play is by playing in games. That and it can take any doubts out of his mind during the offseason. I read where Rose doesn't really like playing much during the summer. He would rather just work out and do some drills. If he doesn't play this season, and I still think he will play sometime during this roadtrip, he's still probably going to have some mental doubt in his head starting next season. Get that over with.
  2. The Marlins are offering buy one get one free tickets for opening day. LMAO.
  3. QUOTE (southside_hitman @ Mar 5, 2013 -> 09:41 AM) I was not suggesting that any of our prospects has beaten out Wise for the 4th outfield spot. I was mentioning the possibility of a trade because having Wise on the 25 man roster is almost a certainty given his Contract. That essentially blocks any of the younger guys from making the club. Tekotte, for example is what, almost 10 years younger than Wise? My thought was that if the Yankees (or some other club) offered a prospect for Wise, the Sox could get younger and not be sacrificing too much. Actually, having a player with more speed come in to pinch run might add another dimension to what Wise can do. Outside this notion of a possible trade, I am interested to hear what any one thinks about Blake Tekotte and his chances to make the roster this season or beyond. Tekotte isn't much of a prospect, in fact, I'd be shocked if the Sox like him more than Jordan Danks. Wise should be a good back up. Plays all the OF positions pretty well. Can hit RHP. Can pinch run, and they love him in the clubhouse. I don't see a reason to make room for guys who haven't shown they can play at the major league level coming out of the gate if you think you can win. If it becomes apparent the Sox aren't going to contend at some point, then you can make room for these types of guys to give them a shot. Why help out the Yankees if you think you can win and the deal isn't going to make your team better?
  4. QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 4, 2013 -> 02:35 PM) $52 million guaranteed isn't that bad. But Flacco truly had a career month...and it just so happened that his career month came in the playoffs. Exactly. If Cutler had the same month and the same result happened for the Bears, and he was given the same contract, most Bears fans would call it a fair deal.
  5. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Mar 3, 2013 -> 09:53 PM) This recent patch of baddity has coincided nicely with Reggie Rose' mouth diarrhea and the crescendo of will he/won't he speculation that spawned from the USA Today stuff. Too bad Reggie couldn't just stfu and stuff his dumb face into a pie (that would no doubt be purchased with his brother's money). Reggie Rose is the Bulls' Oney Guillen. Hopefully, Derrick can quiet him down and not encourage the idiocy like Ozzie did.
  6. I predict DRose is in the line up within 1 week
  7. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Feb 28, 2013 -> 12:01 PM) Using this logic, just about everyone was "close to being cut" last year. The White Sox would have about a $300 million payroll with only a couple of guys who were on the active roster making above minimum if all the DFA and release posts on this board ever came true.
  8. Andy Gonzalez can play third.
  9. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Feb 27, 2013 -> 12:55 PM) @SarahSpain: #Bears LT J'Marcus Webb arrested Sunday for possession of controlled substance, cannabis & paraphernalia. The way it is being reported you would think this guy got caught with 10 kilos of china white, not a little weed.
  10. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 27, 2013 -> 01:03 PM) This isn't "f*** the luxury tax I'm going for the throat" This is "aw shoot, I'm a little bit over and paying the luxury tax" But there was very little they could do since they are already over the cap. Especially with Rose a total question mark for this season.
  11. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 27, 2013 -> 08:46 AM) I can't believe people still care about this Manti deal. The only way it will ever go away is if he isn't a good NFL player and fades out. If he becomes a star and plays 15 years, there will be people mocking him for having a fake girlfriend in NFL stadiums 15 years from now.
  12. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 27, 2013 -> 08:49 AM) I would bet on the latter. I understand the reasoning, I just think AJ has altered his approach and should hit for more power from here on out. If Flowers struggles and the Sox are short a LH bat, and AJ puts up good numbers, even some praising the move now will call him an idiot. The thing is, if the choice was AJ or Peavy, Hahn took the bigger gamble. Peavy was more than $20 million more expensive.
  13. QUOTE (southside_hitman @ Feb 27, 2013 -> 08:09 AM) If the Gila monster keeps hitting and can handle the hot corner defensively, this will prove to be Hahn's best move yet. My only issue with what Rick H. has done is the decision to let AJ go. This all came back to me yesterday when I saw AJ's interview after the Texas game. He seemed pretty sad about the whole situation and mentioned the Sox fans who he will always have a connection to. There is just a lot of mutual admiration. I don't understand why the Sox would not sign AJ to a one year deal. I know, it was a lot of money and he is near the end of his career. But consider the numbers he put up last season. And I am tired of hearing people knock AJ's defense while understating his offense. He handled the pitching staff well and improved a bit last season in terms of throwing out runners. AJ was one of the most clutch hitters we have had. In late innings he would seldom strike out when we needed him to put the ball in play. He was a Cub killer in the Crosstown Series. Now can Flowers battle up there when we simply need him to put the bat on the ball? Or is he simply an Adam Dunn from the Right side? My opinion is that AJ would really have helped us this season. Beyond the financial and other considerations that went into the decision, I hate when a team lets a player like AJ go, a guy who has created so much fan interest and allegiance over a long period of time. It makes it seem like the team lacks loyalty to its players, after expecting and receiving the same loyalty from them for so many years. And to some, it just makes them look cheap. I wish he brought AJ back as well. I think they could have brought Peavy back and assumed the financial hit for one season, but we will see what happens. If AJ hits 30 homers and has a huge year and Flowers struggles, Hahn is going to get skewered by a lot of people. If AJ hits like a 37 year old catcher with a lot of mileage and Flowers has a good year, he will be lauded.
  14. Why would anyone be concerned with results in meaningless games in February?
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 25, 2013 -> 03:18 PM) More afraid of Cleveland. They're 4-0 to starting Spring Training. They are for real dog. An Indians' beat writer actually said this current team reminds him of the Indians teams in the 90s. Talk about someone who is going to be dissappointed.
  16. QUOTE (southside_hitman @ Feb 25, 2013 -> 02:57 PM) 4.) The Tigers have much more talent than the Sox and it is unlikely that we can compete with them this season. I just watched Castellanos, their LF blast an opposite filed home run off the Phillies Papelbon like he was hitting a hitting practice pitcher. Casteallanos, Austin Jackson and Tori Hunter in the outfield, Prince and Miguel Cabrera at first and third, VMart at DH , etc, gives them a frmidable line-up. Then of course their rotation is stronger than the Sox. There will be more Detroit fans at our home games vs. Detroit this season than Sox fans. I don't see any reason for the Sox to field a team this year.
  17. I caught something on TV yesterday near the end, but it seemed like the most important number Emery takes isn't the 40, it's the vertical. He says that is the best indicator of athletic ability.
  18. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 25, 2013 -> 08:48 AM) The Bulls are the 6th seed with Derrick Rose missing the entire season. They've had hot streaks, now they're on a cold streak. Kirk Hinrich blows and the team was fine for stretches earlier in the year with him down because Noah was beasting and people were hitting big shots. Thibs ran his All-Stars into the ground and now we're at this place because they are playing injured / at 80%. Hinrich does just as much harm on the court as he does good by putting his teammates in bad position with no time left on the shot clock. The Bulls got to their target (past the ASB) in 5th place in the Eastern Conference, and expected the cavalry to be comin' di-rectly. It didn't. They got blown out by a fantastic team in the Thunder, and I'm not surprised. We'll see what happens when #1 gets back in the lineup - but everyone stop acting like Kirk is the reason they are losing. You can't deny the W-L record is far superior with Hinrich in the line up. We all know he's a crappy player at this point, I even got sick of watching him when he was considered decent, but there always are guys who seem like crappy players, whose team plays better when they are in the line up. Hinrich wasn't going to make the difference last night, I think everyone understands that. LeBron playing with the Bulls last night would have only made it a little closer game and far more enjoyable to watch, but as much as I don't like watching him play, Hinrich does add value for some reason.
  19. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 25, 2013 -> 08:14 AM) I like him mentioning backspinning to left center and right center, especially right-center. For one thing, that's what he was doing when he came up his rookie year and he was awesome that year. Next, backspinning balls to those gaps is fun because it can be a difficult ball to read and results in a ton of doubles and triples (if not all out home runs). And finally, he will hit more home runs because getting that backspin on the ball keeps it in the air longer and more of them will carry out of the ballpark. I obviously want to see him do it in the regular season, but I'm cautiously optimistic regarding Beckham this year. His right hand is his top hand. Switch hitting doesn't make any sense. Not to mention a 26 year old guy who has never batted left handed picking it up and becoming major league quality has about a 1 in a billion chance, if that, of being successful. It's like asking a pitcher who blows out his shoulder to switch and start throwing with the other arm, maybe not quite that extreme, but the odds of success are nil.
  20. QUOTE (Jake @ Feb 25, 2013 -> 07:54 AM) Also, I actually think much of the recent slide can be attributed to the loss of Hinrich. I love me some Nate Robinson, but there is a serious limit to how much that dude can play. He has to be employed selectively and without Kirk, he is applied indiscriminately and there is no hope that he can play an entire game and not f*** everything up. Kirk is a very flawed player, but he brings a steady hand to the offense and helps us at least rely on our most talented players to win and play a relatively smart game like the one we gameplan for. Nate can score some points and has won some games for us with his offense, but he just can't consistently get an offense to run and causes us to play a 4 man defense sans the occasional fast break blocked shot. I agree. Hinrich has always been a frustrating guy to watch, but for some reason, the team plays better when he is playing.
  21. There seemed to be so many injuries last year, yet they were among the best in fewest days on the DL. Shows you how spoiled we are, or at least I am, regarding White Sox health.
  22. I would never blame injuries on trainers. They most of the time just happen. Herm has been able to keep the games lost to a minimum, but it is ironic he is getting some pub a year after the Sox were about as banged up as they have been since Herm has been around.
  23. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Feb 22, 2013 -> 11:33 AM) He reached the majors at age 20 Not by merit. It was in his contract.
  24. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Feb 21, 2013 -> 01:32 PM) It is perfectly normal to attend women's college volleyball games alone. Literally alone.
