Ventura stressing more contact and less K's
QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Jan 31, 2013 -> 11:46 AM) Yeah, they should just get rid of him. It's all part of the fumigation process. To anybody who thinks otherwise, just remember that he'd have to make a quantum leap just to be decent against right-handed pitching. He's not a building block. Why can't he make that leap? Curtis Granderson put up a .484 OPS vs. LHP in 2009, and got it up to .944 in 2011. And if you with all your knowledge know he can't get better, why would anyone who actually gets paid to make decisions think he will and actually give up something of value to get him?

Alex Rodriguez...Yes or No
It's nice to speculate, but I think everyone knows ARod will never play for the White Sox.

Alex Rodriguez...Yes or No
Latest report says it is very unlikely ARod ever plays for the Yankees again. His hip will either be declared a career ending injury or they will work out some sort of settlement. If the Yankees won't have him, I believe we have seen the last of ARod on a MLB diamond. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/break...0,7665511.story

Alex Rodriguez...Yes or No
If the Yankees are able to void his contract, that means ARod did something very, very wrong and would be too disgraced as a 38 year old to ever try again. He's not Manny Ramirez.

Alex Rodriguez...Yes or No
QUOTE (Lamar Johnson 23 @ Jan 30, 2013 -> 02:51 PM) If he is able to play, somebody will pay him to do so, IMO. Probably, but not a whole lot, considering his age, his decline and the blemishes. ARod has already banked a ridiculous amount of money. Paying him a couple of million probably isn't enough for him to face all the abuse he would receive on a daily basis. The only reason for him to play would be for records and glory, and we have seen how those are pretty much tossed aside for busted and heavily suspected PED users. This report, even if there is no truth in it, probably cost ARod at least first ballot HOF status if not much more.

Alex Rodriguez...Yes or No
I'd like to see what the investigation comes up with. Has anyone ever seen ARod and this guy together or is the evidence just some notes? And we have no idea what type of condition ARod would be in after he rehabs from this surgery. If he ultimately is proven to be guilty here, and the Yankees are able to void his contract, I doubt ARod would play again.

2013 Minor League Transactions
Certainly a no risk move, but a real longshot. Odds are the only way you will see Brackman in uniform at USCF is if he takes up a career selling red ropes.

Peavy: Pressure got to White Sox
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 30, 2013 -> 09:47 AM) The top 4 hitters in the line up were all dealing with injuries. Not many teams will overcome that. The whole bench thing is a catch 22. Ventura is dumb if he doesn't play his bench enough, but if they play, how many "this guy sucks, he needs to be DFA'd immediately" posts are in the game threads posted by the same people who call him dumb for not playing them enough? There is a reason some guys play very little. It's very rare to find someone who is great off the bench. They usually wind up a regular somewhere. Jerry Manuel used to change the line up often, and he was hated as the "tinkerer". Ozzie had his "Sunday line ups" playing mutiple bench players. That didn't go over well. Ventura sticks to a pretty set line up. That doesn't go over well.

Peavy: Pressure got to White Sox
Besides Youkilis who was the 3rd starting 3B,and AJ, and the later being typical of any team with a catcher who catches 110 plus games, I really don't know what other non pitchers you could say whose poor performance down the stretch was because they were worn out . The pitching staff was probably gassed, but the weak Sox bench really didn't play a role IMO with the late fade.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 29, 2013 -> 03:22 PM) The were renewed, that doesn't mean they are sold out in those areas. Try to buy a season package in the lower infield boxes in the first 20 rows. They aren't available.

Ventura stressing more contact and less K's
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 28, 2013 -> 06:13 PM) Dunn wasn't in the really low .200's until the final 2 months of the season. Before that, he was consistently in the .220's or .230's, which isn't great, but it's not .195 to .210 either. The last time his average was at least .220 was June 22, the 70th game of the season.

2012-2013 MLB off season tracker thread
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 28, 2013 -> 12:37 PM) He would have been the perfect insurance for Gordon. Although I doubt Johnson would have accepted a bench or platoon role. Last year their OPSs were about the same. Johnson also struck out 160 times and is nowhere near the defender Beckham is.

Ventura stressing more contact and less K's
While we have to wonder which version of Rios plays for the Sox in 2013, we also have the same question when it comes to Keppinger.

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jan 26, 2013 -> 04:28 PM) Love the idea of taking a chance on Siezmore mid-season if he's ready to go. Low-risk-high reward material. I don't know. He hasn't done anything since 2009. I would think interested teams would like to sign him now and monitor his rehab, but he wants to wait until he is ready to go. Either he is doing some sort of rehab teams wouldn't want him to do, or maybe he feels he will have a better idea of the real contenders later, or he is a stand up guy and doesn't want teams to pay him until he knows he can play. It probably will be a low risk move when it happens, but you really have to wonder if he can still play and for how long.

Arod to have hip surgery, may be out til June'13
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 25, 2013 -> 05:55 PM) Were they able to insure the whole thing? That was one of the problems with some of the long big dollar contracts. Sometimes they could only get a portion insured. Apparently, or at least a huge portion. I read somewhere where the Yankees wouldn't really mind it were career ending. It would save them over $100 million. His contract runs through 2018.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 25, 2013 -> 04:40 PM) Cashman suggests ARod could miss the whole season. His contract is insured. They really would like him to miss the entire season.

Sox Sign Matt Lindstrom
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 25, 2013 -> 03:03 PM) What was it against RH'ers? There were many White Sox who were brutal down the stretch.

Jan 24 Blogger call with Brooks Boyer
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 25, 2013 -> 02:41 PM) I don't know what he meant by being hundreds of points ahead of last year. How many tickets does that translate to? You're the numbers guy. You said he was spinning. What does it mean? He did say the most expensive seats in the house were re-newed at 99%, and considering they went up in price, that is positive, with an overall renewal rate over 90%. Last year it was about 50%.

Sox Sign Matt Lindstrom
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 25, 2013 -> 02:47 PM) Viciedo - September - .896 OPS, best on the team, excluding Dan Johnson's 31 plate appearances And Pierre, the guy Marty wanted to get to platoon with him had a .595 OPS in August so that wouldn't have made any difference.

Jan 24 Blogger call with Brooks Boyer
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 25, 2013 -> 02:23 PM) He's spinning. What are the actual numbers? I will guess and say you have no idea, but you do know Boyer isn't being straight. I just don't see why he would have to spin anything considering the audience.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 25, 2013 -> 02:03 PM) Come on Dick Allen. A friendly handshake to end the animosity. There's no animosity. I just don't understand your never ending quest for the negative. I've bashed the Sox plenty. I am not one to say everything they do is perfect, but every little thing White Sox related, you have some negative comment. Why would Boyer BS a blogger conference call?

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 25, 2013 -> 01:53 PM) Dick Allen I'd really like to meet you at a game this year so we can bury your hatchet. I don't swing that way.

Jan 24 Blogger call with Brooks Boyer
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 25, 2013 -> 01:46 PM) Don't know what Boyer means by "hundred of points ahead" of last year, but when it comes to ticket sales unless they issue a press release stating season ticket sales are up X amount of percent I'll believe it when I see it. We're all doomed..............

Sox claim Zach Stewart...
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 25, 2013 -> 12:36 PM) How many rookie pitchers call off a veteran catcher? If you want to go on the radio and use the catcher as an excuse not to throw a particular pitch, and after said catcher is out of town, its time to look in the mirror. Ultimately, whether a rookie or 20 year veteran, the responsibility is the on the pitcher. He wouldn't shake him off, and he apparently couldn't tell AJ he wanted to throw more screwballs. I don't see where that's on anyone but Santiago.
