2005 World Series Ring on EBAY
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 12, 2013 -> 08:06 PM) Couldn't PD mean player development? We also got rings in the South Atlantic League when the team we worked for (August) won the championship in 2005. Mine says PR on the side of the ring....that was my job at the time, Director of Stadium Operations and Public Relations. From the description, one would think it has to be Moose Skowron's. I wonder how much it would be worth if it was Dave Wilder's.

QUOTE (bhawk99 @ Jan 12, 2013 -> 07:36 AM) Just another day and again no moves to improve this team by Rick Hahn. I guess he will just be happy to just finish ahead of the Indians, Twins and maybe the Royals. Some of Kenny's moves were questionable but at least he tried to make this team more competitive with the Tigers. Hey Rick, grow a set and do something just to let us know you are still alive. What was Kenny's big move last offseason?

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 11, 2013 -> 07:35 PM) Yeah, it's like a $17 million cap hit. It's not worth it. I think if they release him this year he would be around a $10 million hit for not being here.

QUOTE (SoxnGiants @ Jan 11, 2013 -> 06:42 PM) Some rumors out there that the Bears will release Peppers. He had a good season from what I could tell (I'm a Giants fan, so you'd know better than I would) but he is 33 this month and owed a lot of money next year so who knows. I think the cap hit difference between keeping him and releasing him is around $6-7 million. I think next year it becomes larger. I would expect him to stay .

He might be one some day, but if Moustakis and his below .700 career OPS is a star, the White Sox are loaded with them.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 11, 2013 -> 12:06 PM) Why do you turn things personal when someone disagrees with you? Wow, didn't see this coming. Obviously, everything about the White Sox bothers you. I don't know why you would continue to spend so much time complaining about something you can do nothing about. The funny thing is you go to games, giving Reinsdorf your money, therefore you actually are one of the people you complain about.

Give him a break about the Royals. He's right. Since 1995 they did win 83 games one year, and only lost 90 or more 12 times. Why the White Sox or any franchise for that matter wouldn't want to be like the Royals is beyond me.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 11, 2013 -> 11:46 AM) This is media brainwashing, particularly on the SCORE. "The Sox fan doesn't appreciate all that Chairman Reinsdorf has given him." You obviously don't. The team was in the top 2 or 3 in wins for about a 15 year stretch. I'll post it again, if it really is so miserable for you, find a new hobby. You actually might become happy.

QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 11, 2013 -> 11:41 AM) The A's have a great future ahead of them though Not really. If their young guys play well they won't be able to afford them and will start the cycle all over again. There really is very little chance for sustained success as long as they remain in Oakland.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 11, 2013 -> 11:36 AM) I say it's time for a new owner then. One that has a better plan for "sustained success" given the constraints of the revenue streams or an owner that has deeper pockets. One that is willing to take a bath every year so you might be happy? Good luck with that. White Sox fans wouldn't go to games because the seats were blue. Then they wouldn't go because the team wasn't winning enough, then they get their green seats and have a team in first place and tickets are too expensive. 2013 they will have affordable tickets, green seats and a team that should be decent. We will see what happens

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 11, 2013 -> 11:29 AM) Right, but Sox fans are so wrapped up in attendance that they blame their fellow fan for not going. Attendance is what it is, no excuse not to win. More people should have come out to the park last year. The fact is if more people came, the team would be in a position to do more financially and take some more risks. If people can't afford to go to games or don't have the time, so be it, but if you really think teams like the ones you want to be the White Sox to be like have White Sox-like revenue, that they still would bring in all these high priced players, you are just wrong. Clearly they haven't won enough, I agree with you there. But I don't think it's the size of the payroll, which is ownership's responsibility, that has caused it.

Baseball is a lot different than the NFL and NBA. You can't just tank it a couple of years and have all your problems solved through the draft. Players take longer to develop and contribute and the bust rate is much higher.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 11, 2013 -> 11:24 AM) I think it's strange that Sox fans don't demand more from ownership. Instead they blame their fellow fan. It must be they are still feeling the effect of being beaten over the head by the media with "attendance problems." If fans aren't showing up, isn't it a sign fans are demanding more out of ownership? A team that wins 85 games and is in first place most of the year doesn't draw 2 million. To me, ownership isn't getting the benefit of the doubt.

QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 11, 2013 -> 10:59 AM) The Royals have done some great things this off season to go along with their great young stars. Yeah, they are a real model franchise. I wish the Sox could be more like them. That would be really fun.

2012-2013 NFL Thread
QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 11, 2013 -> 08:44 AM) They say his greatest strength is coaching the fundamentals of quarterbacking, and luckily those don't really change much. Rich Gannon says that he is the type of guy that multi-tasks very well, ie coaching the QB and calling plays. Either way, if we hire an OC that calls the plays...then I don't see how game speed is an issue. It may not be anyway. I don't think that will be an issue. It isn't like the guy has been sitting on a deserted island the last 5 years. If it's accurate, certainly not a thrilling hire, though. Emery seems prepared, and does go through all the work, whether that translates into making the correct decisions, only the results in the future will determine that. He has probably interviewed more guys than any other team this offseason.

2014 Youth Movement?
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 11, 2013 -> 07:57 AM) Some of this is the change in the structure of the league since 2007. In 2007, a guy hitting in the low .200's with 20 HR and good defense was a major liability. Offense has stepped back so much since then that the same production has gone from being a serious weakness in the lineup to a tolerable guy. Most of it is a lot of people like the same or worse players on other teams. Watch if Josh Bell has a decent spring training. A lot of guys who have already told you Beckham is useless and will tell you if he hits .800 in spring training its meaningless, and think Viciedo may be useless, will be all gung ho about him.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 11, 2013 -> 08:37 AM) @seankjensen I do not believe there's any validity to the Jimmy Johnson tweet about #Bears and Marc Trestman. Phil Emery still has interviews coming up The Jimmy Johnson coaching tree hasn't exactly been stellar.

2012-2013 NFL Thread
QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 11, 2013 -> 08:17 AM) We shall see. I like his experience and he obviously was impressive in his interview. He has some history with Jay but a resume that extends far beyond that. Like Lovie and many other HCs, he will need to bring in very good assistants. If we bring in another good OC with Trestman, that should ease our fears that he's been out of the game for so long. And I hope we can find some way to keep Marinelli around. So you are saying this guy is getting hired for his offensive mind, but it is very important a good OC is hired because he's been out of the NFL so long? So much for his offensive mind. Good luck to him, I hope he does well. Maybe this will help the Bears moving forward, but in 2013, I doubt it, and the clock is ticking on the defense.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 10, 2013 -> 06:34 AM) Bolded is true - but the other way around is somewhat true. And yet, despite being 9th in attendence in the AL, they had the 5th highest team salary, and that was after actually SHEDDING some from 2011. The argument that this White Sox regime, under KW/Hahn and JerryCo (since, say, 2000-ish), is cheap or unwilling to invest in the team, is 100% complete nonsense. This organization puts more into player payroll with less revenue than most teams in baseball. The attendance isn't stellar, but if you ranked the teams by total revenue, they would rank higher than 9th, but I do agree, the amount spent isn't the problem. You can argue how it has been spent has been a problem. Facts are, while people are moaning Hahn hasn't made 45 moves yet, had they had shown up at the games when the Sox were in first place last summer, perhaps some other moves would have been made. I don't think refusing to pay what the White Sox wanted you to pay to attend a game, and sit in a seat you can actually see what is going on in the game (although if you ever sit in the real cheap seats, you would think its a far better place to call balls and strikes than where the umpire sets up if you go by fan comments) makes you a bad fan, but when enough people stay away, it will eventually effect the roster.

Frank Thomas: 1st ballot?
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 02:34 PM) If nothing else, I am going to attempt to find a list and send an email to all 500+ writers in the BBWAA to plead Frank's case. There will be no one more deserving in that entire class than Frank Thomas of going into the Hall of Fame. I would think Maddux is bigger lock.
-
Frank Thomas: 1st ballot?
In my mind he is a HOFer so there is no reason it should not be on the first ballot, but for some reason some voters think some players are "deserving" of first ballot, and Frank spending a lot of time DHing, even though it has been a position in MLB for 40 years, may keep him off a year.

The last time the Sox attempted a complete teardown was after the dissappointing 1986 season. They were brutal in 87,88,89 and hit the jackpot in drafting McDowell, Ventura, Thomas and Fernandez. It spured a good team for several seasons, but only 1 playoff appearance, and that is with a string of draft picks that would be almost impossible to replicate. If you tear it down, chances are you are going to be bad for a while unless you are a team like the Cubs and people will show up regardless. The Sox should be in the playoffs more often. I'm sure they would admit that. But looking at their draft history since Larry Himes was waxed wouldn't make anyone believe they could rebuild a team from rock bottom in 3 years. Doing it this way makes a lot of sense.

2013 HOF ballot out, includes Sosa, Clemens, Bonds
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 01:23 PM) That is a popular one as well. The only problem with that one is that sometimes the drug will make them to hyper and you can't concentrate. That's why people who work in orange juice factories can't have them.

2013 HOF ballot out, includes Sosa, Clemens, Bonds
QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 11:59 AM) can I ask why folks aren't voting Piazza in the other thread? I know he's not going to make it, but it's a travesty for the best catcher in the history of the game not to be a 1st ballot HOF Supposedly his back was covered in zits well after puberty. I would vote for Bonds because I think he was a HOFer before he juiced. I think Piazza was juicing most of his career. I wonder if some of these guys will ever get in or are some voters just making them wait. I never understood that rationale. Either you think they are worthy or they are not. I don't know why being a first ballot is reserved for a certain player by some, and some think guys become worthy after being on the ballot for X number of years. Here is probably big reason why Piazza will never make it, supposedly he admitted it. http://thesteroidera.blogspot.com/2009/03/...llegations.html
