  1. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 7, 2012 -> 07:51 PM) The Ozzie Guillen rule of managing. X player plays x position so the replacement player takes his exact spot in the lineup. Remeber Wise hitting 3rd. A walk and a triple. Keep b****ing.
  2. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Sep 7, 2012 -> 04:36 PM) AJ not happy about the PED rumors, and he's blaming 'certain media' not any Sox fan forums. "Apparently, certain people in the media, and they know who they are..." "They just go ahead and run stories and talk about stories on their air without getting sources." -- per Scott Gregor The footage I just saw of him blamed the internet and the fact you can put whatever you want on the internet. Its too bad that's what the game is turning into. You either suck or a must be on steroids. Look at Skip Bayless with Derek Jeter. And this thread, there were a ton of "it wouldn't surprise me" posts.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 6, 2012 -> 09:07 PM) Wow, sub Viciedo. I'm genuinely surprised, I thought he was better than that this year. Thanks for the info, glad we jave Alehandro. When he was in town earlier this year, he was really on a roll, looking like the player a lot of people think he could be, but he's had some cold streaks and has been awful lately. If I were making White Sox decisions and could have had him for Edwin Jackson with the team out of it, I would probably have done it, but there's no telling what getting Teahen off the books did. Who knows who wouldn't be with the team. The guy has talent, but clashing with LaRussa will get you a reputation. I think JR is still thinking he'd like LaRussa with the Sox in some way, and Colby Rasmus on the roster probably doesn't increase the odds of that happening.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 6, 2012 -> 09:02 PM) What's his OPS this year? .701
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 6, 2012 -> 08:57 PM) Really? I thought he'd been pretty good overall. (Getting rid of Teahen was the other bonus, and Stewart turned into Youk, those are the 2 other details.) He's down to .225 with a .290 OBP this year and .214 with a mid .600 OPS during his time in Toronto.
  6. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 6, 2012 -> 07:24 PM) It wasn't good last year either. People thought they could trade him for Rasmus but the Cards wanted Sale. The Sox could have traded for Rasmus using Edwin Jackson. They didn't want Rasmus, and really, although earlier this year he had a hot streak and hit some homers, he's been pretty bad for the Blue Jays.
  7. QUOTE (Brian26 @ Sep 6, 2012 -> 07:53 PM) It was actually a weird situation because it went down so quickly while most of us were at work. When I saw the thread, I started a PM discussion with the original poster asking him for the name of his contact person at the Score so I at least knew he was legit. He was unwilling to give up the name in order to protect his friend's job. At that point, the thread was put in the "What's the Score" forum where unregistered users could still see it (generally where trade rumors, not PED rumors go). It wasn't put into the Roadhouse until later in the night (where only registered members could see it). WSI didn't start the rumor. Mully and Hanley this morning said they had heard it last Friday. Gonzalez said he had "heard it" last week (I agree, just because he said he heard it, he wasn't lending credence to it). It was floating around WSCR at least since the middle of last week. I have the original poster's name and his work email address. I can confirm he doesn't work at the Score, and I have no reason to believe he doesn't have a friend there. All signs point towards someone (or more than one person) at the Score starting this rumor as a joke to see how far it could spread. FWIW, I don't believe the "Detroit Tigers Message Board" theory unless someone can come up with a link. If anything, it goes to show how influencial boards like Soxtalk and WSI are since this entire thing ignited after it was posted at both places. The media in this town is lazy, and I know they monitor these boards for info. The sad thing is right now, and maybe its MLB's fault, but whenever players have career years or play really well, they almost all have PED suspicion . It was a unique situation last night and a learning experience. It was a poster without a track record, and his source was a guy who works at the Score and the Score didn't report it. If its some top secret information, I wonder why they refuse to air it, but will tell all of their friends. That's what made me sure it was false, although I did wonder what if it were true.
  8. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Sep 6, 2012 -> 10:27 AM) Nothing- it's just the impression I got from when they quickly touched on it at the beginning of the show based on listening to the guy regularly for a long time. It's probably exactly what flavum wrote, we don't know the whole story, and maybe never will. The Score is now saying its a rumor from last week started on a Tigers message board. Of course they don't want it to be known the crap hit the fan on a White Sox message board when someone said an employee of their station said it was true. And they didn't mention it last night when they said they needed 2 confirmations and had one. If its true it started on a Tigers message board, I think we do know the whole story. It was made up.
  9. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Sep 6, 2012 -> 09:08 AM) You are the most insufferable poster here. NO ONE has said they hope this rumor is true. You took the rumor of a guy on the street internet poster and said "it doesn't look good." Sorry if I didn't take the bait, and if people at USCF like jenksismyb**** reported were saying it was true with a press conference today, when the White Sox didn't even know about, you know there are people who want this to be true. You would have to be very naive to think there aren't posters on here who are dissappointed this isn't true.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 6, 2012 -> 09:03 AM) Depends on what we mean by "Supposedly heard". All we've got until the WSI post are a few vague statements that suggest a couple people thought AJ was distracted, and his performance falling off over the past week or two. There's a lot of things that could be. Maybe he's in the Adam Dunn boat of a sick kid. Maybe he's having other family troubles. Maybe he had an extra bad hangover and the team was annoyed with him for it. Is it at least possible, a 35 year old catcher who plays as much as AJ, in a summer that was extremely hot, with a young pitching staff that throws a lot of balls in the dirt, so he will take an extra beating, has a performance dip due to the tank being a little low?
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 6, 2012 -> 08:56 AM) Thanks for posting, but that makes Mully's source seem even more legit/accurate then. And it makes all the others seem like total lies.
  12. QUOTE (Real @ Sep 6, 2012 -> 08:33 AM) Coop on the score now, says he hasn't heard anything about this and isn't even worth talking about since it's just a rumor Mully clarified the MLB response. Sox front office heard the rumors, and contacted MLB yesterday/last night about this situation and were told there's nothing to it Amazing the Sox didn't know about it, but workers at the Cell did and knew all about a press conference.
  13. Considering the origin of this entire thread was from what someone heard from a friend who works at the Score and now the Score says it's false, I would think any more speculation is moot.
  14. QUOTE (Real @ Sep 6, 2012 -> 06:10 AM) according to mully and hanley this morning, MLB has flat out denied that this story has any truth to it they did not issue a "no comment" or "can't confirm/deny" statement, Mike Mulligan said they flat out called it false FWIW Does this mean the press conference in which the White Sox forgot to invite the press is cancelled? A lot of people around the country are going to be pissed. A few on this board as well.
  15. QUOTE (zenryan @ Sep 5, 2012 -> 07:20 PM) Who thinks he still may get $10M a year? No shock that the Giants went from trying to sign Melky to breaking off talks and trading for another OF after the ASB. It's only September and FA signings usually dont start happening until the winter meetings. You really think lawyers would be able to stretch this out for another 3-4 months at the very minimum? They have to stretch it out about 4 weeks.
  16. QUOTE (zenryan @ Sep 5, 2012 -> 06:59 PM) If lawyers could stretch this out, you'd think Melky would have done so. I'd be more shocked if he wasn't on something. Or maybe he's just lucky to be having a career year at 35 during a contract season. They did stretch it out, and it ran to where it will be over 5 games after the regular season. Melky was also making $6 million, is 28 and people still think he may be able to get $10 million a year, so it would be more advantageous financially for Melky to serve his suspension this season. For AJ, if there is any truth to it, it would be the opposite.
  17. One thing halfway decent lawyers are good it is dragging things out. AJ is making $6 million this year. If he had a positive PED test, there is no way at his age he will get anything close to that rate during his next contract. If he tested positive 2 weeks ago like what is being claimed, his people could stretch this out until the offseason and he'll get paid plus perhaps make some playoff money.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 5, 2012 -> 06:49 PM) Say they were to have a press conference tomorrow at the Cell (I know they're not typically announced at a press conference, but it doesn't mean KW can't hold one). If there was a press conference, maybe it's workers there trying to connect the dots?? If there was a press conference scheduled at USCF tomorrow, wouldn't the press know about it?
  19. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 5, 2012 -> 05:55 PM) Quentin: .262/.371/.502 in 77 games Viciedo: .239/.282/.371 in his last 77 games So an .873 OPS for Quentin in the toughest hitters park in MLB versus a .653 for Viciedo over that same time. Huge difference. Quentin's a good player, but you have to account for the time he's not available when evaluating his overall worth.
  20. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 5, 2012 -> 06:39 PM) Maybe hes not appealing If he's not appealing and he failed the drug test 2 weeks ago, it doesn't make much sense he's been playing. They wouldn't say, "oh you have an off day on Sept. 6th, that will be a convenient time to start your suspension".
  21. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Sep 5, 2012 -> 06:00 PM) I don't know what all goes into such an appeal process but it probably shouldn't take 2 weeks IMO. I would imagine it takes longer than 2 weeks. I had to take a drug test for work and that took 2 weeks. With a gathering of information and probably a re-test on some of the sample, plus the lawyers getting involved, it would seem to me it would take at least 4 weeks and probably more on an appeal.
  22. Is the press conference before or after the Bulls press conference announcing Lebron is coming to town. Wasn't he looking at property on the North Shore? Do teams have press conferences with PED suspensions? Isn't usually a statement "by" the offender written by his agent? BTW, Mark Gonzalez hears a lot of rumors that aren't true.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 5, 2012 -> 02:56 PM) After what happened in SF, no reporter in Chicago is going to risk his relationship in Chicago without someone to blame. There is nothing to risk if its true. The risk is if its a BS rumor.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 5, 2012 -> 02:56 PM) Or he dances in a ring of fire...(Jim Morrison) Either way, we'll take it. You're ripping Hawk for talking about Ted Williams during a baseball game, and you work in Jim Morrison? Keshawn Johnson says, c'mon, man.
  25. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 5, 2012 -> 02:55 PM) His name is Rios and he dances on the sand (twice)! He's right handed isn't he?
