  1. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 06:50 PM) Saying Carter would be on the roster in September means they have no clue. He didn't say Carter would be on the roster in Sept. just the other 3.
  2. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 05:17 PM) Colon's bus is waiting... Actually, they could really use him until Peavy returns. Who is pitching for the Sox first, Garcia or Peavy?
  3. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 05:11 PM) Absolutely. Say what you want about his player development, but the dude is second-to-none when it comes to getting outstanding value in trades. I don't know about that yet. Obviously, if Peavy returns to form, this is an absolute steal personnel-wise, but who knows when that will be. He has always wanted an ace, that's what he goes for. Wells, Colon, Garcia, Peavy twice. Those are just the ones he got done. He's probably asked about every ace in baseball.
  4. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 05:06 PM) While it's true that Peavy benefited from pitching in a pitchers park as well as pitching in the NL, one thing to remember is he is still only 27 years old. He still has a little more time to actually improve which may result in him being almost as effective in the AL as he has been in the NL. Think of it as a 27 year old prospect who has just been promoted from AAAA to the Major Leagues. Peavy is only a year and a half older than Clayton Richard.
  5. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 05:07 PM) I hope this stops the "the White Sox are an org nobody wants anything to do with" BS. Peavy negotiated a NTC and probably took a little less money to resign with the Padres. I don't mind at all that he waited a little bit. the top 4 in our rotation could be a good selling point to a veteran FA if money is basically equal Actually, who knows if he gets hurt if he says yes initially, and if he doesn't, the White Sox are probably a couple games better than where they are now.
  6. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 04:58 PM) Hopefully this will get you and many others to stop calling the Sox cheap. It does show that they weren't being straight when they said they were right up against the budget, so if Peavy said no again and they did nothing, cheap would have be appropriate. I'm surprised no one has ripped the Sox for making this deal for an injured player without a physical.
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 03:33 PM) Great deal by Kenny, Richard decided to pitch well at the right time again for us. I cant say im all that sorry to see Poreda go. Glad we kept Hudson as well. Excellent timing for Richard. Poreda looks like a LOOGY to me. Its a freaking steal if Peavy is Peavy the rest of the contract.

  9. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 03:32 PM) Unbelievable. Kenny haters need to retire 4 life. This changes the entire complexion of the division. Maybe not this season because who knows when Peavy can pitch and pitch effectively, but moving on, the rotation is stacked.
  11. Sweet job KW. The Sox are contenders now for several years assuming Peavy gets and remains healthy.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 03:29 PM) Levine reported both Richard and Poreda, Russell and Carter. Interesting considering Richard is supposed to start tonight.
  13. Heyman just said he believes Peavy has or said he will waive the no trade.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 02:07 PM) So in other words our final offers are out there, and we are waiting to see if teams will come down to our offers. They never mentioned KW in particular, but I know KW is trying to make a trade and has made lots of offers. From what they said, you make your offer and sit by the phone hoping it rings.
  15. QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 02:05 PM) That same season Hanley hit .332 with 48 doubles, 29 HR's and 51 SB....I think Florida won that trade, but really both teams are winners. And Mike Lowell hit .324 with 120 RBI and was the WS MVP.
  16. They have Duquette and Hart on MLB network. Its pretty interesting to listen to how a GM actually spends deadline day. From what they have said, I think KW is sitting by his phone waiting for some callbacks.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 01:34 PM) I don't get all the talk of getting ANOTHER reliever. Its just not something the team needs, at all. I mean if you can upgrade there, fine, but the Sox pen, despite some recent struggles, is still one of the best in baseball. Heath Bell would be a huge upgrade. The bullpen has really struggled lately, plus he would step in for Jenks next year, as I cannot see the Sox paying Bobby the money he would command next year and going forward.
  18. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 01:41 PM) I do like Masterson. But if that's all the Tribe got, they got raped. Nick Hagadone as well.
  19. QUOTE (Felix @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 01:37 PM) Punto also has the same OBP as Cabrera and has better defense. There's an obvious difference in slugging (100+ points this year), but Punto has been epically bad even by his standards in SLG this season (SLG is 70 points lower than his career average, 130 points lower than his last season). Going forward, I don't think there's a massive difference between the two, when you look at everything involved. Of course, if Punto continues this and finishes the year like he did in 2007, then OCab is an easy and obvious upgrade. According to MLB network, Cabrera's fielding stats should improve significantly with Morneau at firstbase.
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 01:30 PM) Teams will be less-motivated to trade half their farm for just 1 season of contention rather than two... Exactly. 2 playoff runs vs. 1 is huge.
  21. QUOTE (Felix @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 01:26 PM) Yep. This isn't really an upgrade, but at least it's a move that makes them look like they care (meaning it will likely make Mauer happy). OCab isn't particularly good (in fact he's been pretty bad this year), but he has the name and reputation to keep their golden boy happy. Nick Punto has played 75 games this year and is hitting .208. If you don't think its an upgrade, I think you need your eyes examined.
  22. QUOTE (3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 01:22 PM) Not sure if they're kidding, but MLB Network is talking about texting with KW during the break (that he asked for ideas, Harold Reynold just gave a sleeper list and they said 'Here you go Kenny, this is your text back!') While I don't doubt they texted KW, I'd be absolutely shocked if KW was serious about needing ideas. I'd also be shocked if he doesn't have about 10 balloons in the air right now. The problem is it takes 2 to tango, so while you might have the means to take on salary and might have some prospects to trade, the other guy could always say no. I read somewhere where Toronto wasn't interested in any of the White Sox prospects for Halladay. They wanted Danks and Floyd.
  23. I remember when Washburn was with the Angels, he was described as a poor man's Mark Buerhle.
  24. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 01:14 PM) That was 2007. He was barely above average last year. This year though, he's been atrocious. Any rating system that had Soriano ranked high and above average, when even the Cubs announcers say there are a few thousand people in the stands that are probably better with the glove than him, needs a little tweaking.
