The only thing that contradicts any earlier talk was the no hesitation by JR, according to KW and JR, JR's initial response was no thanks on this deal but KW and Hahn talked him into it.

Clearly with the way Beckham and Getz have played, the White Sox choosing to give them playing time over Fields was the correct choice. I really don't understand your argument. Would that also work for anyone who insists Corky Miller wouldn't have been an All Star catcher if the White Sox hadn't sent him down? Where a guy was drafted doesn't matter either. In fact, its refreshing an organization gives playing time based on performance rather than draft position and/or signing bonus. Would you rather have the 38th pick Mark Buerhle on the mound, or first rounder Lance Broadway? Fields was 7th in ROY voting. Care to bet me that Getz will be at least in the top 7 this year? Fields has 620 or so major league at bats and has a .228 career batting average and career .302 OBP with well over 200 strikeouts. Defensively, he's below average. Bang his drum all you want, but the numbers and your eyes, if you're honest with yourself, will tell you Chris Getz will help the White Sox win more games at this time.

He's exactly the kind of guy JR would open the checkbook to acquire. I doubt he leaves Minnesota. With their new stadium and revenues, and the Pohlads being perhaps the richest owners in MLB, losing Mauer would be devastating.

Its a natural reaction to reach for a ball like Bartman did. If he wasn't sitting there some other knucklehead's name would live forever. The only thing that will keep someone from reaching for a ball now is the Bartman incident.

Nix apparently went to the Wilson Betemit school to learn how to play SS. He's lucky they didn't give him 2 errors on the Texiera ball.

In Minnesota, they have Market Mondays where the price of a lower level outfield seat is determined by the DJIA. I was there this past week and bought the ticket when the dow was in the 8000s so the tickets were $8 a piece. Tuesdays they are half priced in the same sections so $10.50. When the Sox play at home against Minnesota in Sept., the Monday game is half priced so $17 and the Tuesday game is $34. You're looking at $18.50 vs. $51 per seat for comparable seats for 2 games. Family of 4 thats $74 vs. $204. The White Sox have very expensive tickets. Unless you want to sit in the upper deck in the corners, you're going to pay a ton of money. With season ticketholders gobbling up most of the better seats, and the arrival of HDTV and the economy, I think more are apt to sit back, relax and strap it down on their couch.

As far as worrying what USCF will do to Peavy's ERA, its interesting to note Gavin Floyd's ERA at USCF is almost 3.00 LOWER than it is everywhere else. Buerhle's ERA is about HALF what it is on the road. Contreras' ERA at USCF lower than on the road, Danks ERA at home, lower than on the road. Only Richard had a higher ERA at home. I really doubt moving to USCF if going to make Jake Peavy a gas can. This is a trade that should satisfy everyone. Those wanting to win this year, chances are it wasn't going to happen with the roster as is, acquiring an ace is pretty sweet, the only problem is if and when he can pitch this year. Those looking to blow up the team, well the Sox at the very least make a great start towards 2010. No one can argue Peavy, Buerhle, Danks and Floyd is difficult to match let alone beat, and pitching wins.

The fact that some are upset Clayton Richard was traded for Jake Peavy is behind comprehension for me. Also keep in mind Peavy is only a year and a half older than Richard. This trade, assuming Peavy returns at 100% is a steal. Once Peavy shows he's healthy, KW could trade him for a lot more than he gave up.
