Quentin made an appearance at Macy's and said he may be back for the next Cubs series in about 10 days.

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 08:30 PM) Booing sends a message, we pay good money to watch our Sox, and dont want to watch this garbage player on the field. If booing a player made a team get rid of a player, I'd agree with you. It doesn't.

QUOTE (beck72 @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 07:38 PM) Just say no to Zito! Kenny Williams deserves a lot of credit for not being tied down to horrible contracts like Zito. Many teams around the league have these crap contracts filling up their rosters [just see the Cubs]. I just read today that Dontrelle Willis still has like $22 million due to him thru 2011. Thank goodness KW has had the foresight to not get bogged down in some bad contracts [like Rowand, Fukudome,] when a lot of people were calling for him to open the checkbook. He offered Fukudome more money than the Cubs did. He offered Rowand 4 years and when SF went to 5 he told Aaron he couldn't go 5. Not foresight. Luck.

Getting Zito would be a great idea. I also think the Sox should use all of the money that is coming off the books this next offseason to sign Carl Pavano to a 6 or 7 year contract at about $18 million a year. Maybe trade Flowers and Allen for Dontrelle Willis. That would be a pitching staff. You could probably get Big Papi for a song right now. Bring him in.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 11:06 PM) I hope it is an injury. This organization for some reason really seems to be right on pitching prospects. The entire planet had given up on guys like Jose Contreras, Gavin Floyd, Esteban Loiaza, and DJ Carrasco. But somehow we turned them into studs. When they started talking up Marquez, I listened, based on their history. Perhaps he's along the Sisco, Aardsma, JVB lines. Marquez was very bad last year. He was a throw in. KW talked him up, but that was just propaganda. He never has had anywhere near the stuff of guys who the Sox have had success bring back from the dead like Thornotn, Contreras, Floyd and Loiasa. BTW, I couldn't care less what Nick Swisher's OPS is right now, I still think KW did well to dump him even if nothing he gets back pans out.

Per Ken Rosenthal: The White Sox may not receive good prospects in return if they deal Jermaine Dye, since "few clubs, if any" can afford to take on his $11.5MM salary and surrender top young players in the same deal. IF there's a firesale, unless the Sox are trading Jenks or Thornton, I really don't see how they are going to get top prospects, and with Dotel a soon to be FA, I don't know if I would want KW to trade away and weaken a strength just to acquire guys you can't be sure will do as well.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 03:23 PM) Do they fly or take a bus? with no traffic it would be about 90 minutes They will take a bus or maybe even a train. I wouldn't be surprised if most guys just drive themselves as Monday is an off day and they will be in Chicago next week. -
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- « Josh Fields in White Sox's lineup, weather update | Main | U.S. Cellular Field weather update » Originally posted: June 11, 2009 Paul Konerko could return as soon as Friday, Ozzie Guillen says no talk of breakup By Mark Gonzales First baseman Paul Konerko believes he could return to the White Sox's lineup as soon as Friday night at Milwaukee. Konerko said he will take a pain-numbing injection Thursday, adding that the discomfort is similar to what he coped with last year. He hoped to hold off on an injection until the All-Star break but the pain became too acute. He said the discomfort was so bad that he had to take a two-strike pitch in his second at-bat Wednesday night against Justin Verlander that resulted in a called third strike This doesn't sound good.

Fields batting 9th. Maybe Ozzie is trying to get the team ready for the pitcher having to hit. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 11:29 AM) Has to be? If Ozzie says he's available today, then it probably is NOT the ligament. He's been dealing with it for years. He's had it all year. It doesn't mean he can't play. He got jammed with a lot of gas last night and it probably caused a great deal of pain. It didn't help it was so cold. Perhaps it calmed down.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 11:12 AM) I hope its nothing but a jam. The telling sign will be how well he can get to an inside fastball. It has to be the ligament as he's had this problem before and got a shot for it this spring. I would imagine the pain is the issue. He's been slumping lately, but he still has been hitting the ball pretty hard.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 11:01 AM) As long as the Sox are in "contending" mode, we will see Josh Fields play first base. However, if the club falls out of contention you can expect to see Allen or even Viciedo promoted to handle 1st. My guess would be that they'd call up Allen before Viciedo because Allen is probably a bit more ready, although Viciedo clearly has the highest upside. That won't happen for another couple weeks, although a loss today would put the Sox closer and closer to the point where they have to turn there attention towards getting some of these young guys ready for next season. Not only so those young guys are more capable of playing next year, but so the Sox get a period to evaluate the guys at the major league level and decide what exactly they'll need to do to be able to compete next season (in what will likely be another season where a .500 record in the Central means your a contender). I personally expect to see Danks in Chicago by the end of July, however, Allen being up depends on what the Sox do with Thome/Konerko. If Konerko is healthy and Thome wants to stay in Chicago, Allen wont' get AB's. If Thome wants to go to a contender, well, than we'll see Allen promoted with Konerko sliding to DH. I'd say Paulie would get off-days but as long as he can take the field I don't see Konerko sitting out, he's just not the type of guy to do it. He's a gamer and he'll battle through, whether we are competing or not. BTW, regarding Viciedo and for that matter Ramirez, according to Rick Hahn, the White Sox still hold the 6 year rights to these guys, its not a situation like some Japanese players where arbitration is agreed to be waived, so the clock on Viciedo isn't running quite as fast as maybe we thought.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 10:19 AM) He said that this year? Guillen ruled out using Jim Thome at first base for the nine interleague games at National League parks starting Friday and said Josh Fields probably would start Thursday against Detroit.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 10:09 AM) Thome was, at one time not that long ago, a good defensive 1B. I realize he's had back issues since and he's no spring chicken, but if Paulie is out, I'd bet they get Thome at 1B a few times in the interleague road series'. Ozzie said no way.
-
What's the fascination with other teams' crap? The Sox have enough of their own. If Wang is healthy and able to pitch, the Yankees won't trade him.
-
If Konerko can't play, I'm going to be crying in Milwaukee. 9 games in a row without a DH means no Thome. So it would be no Thome, Konerko or Quentin for 9 games. I believe it was Alice Cooper who said Welcome to my Nightmare.

I had to buy tickets for all the games but will be comped at the Pfister with the Sox. Maybe I'll boo Dewayne Wise if I see him in the lobby.
-
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 11:56 AM) To me, him saying "keep booing me" is him handling it. Players should feed off that. Why are we asking him to show repentance or something along those lines? Its obviously bothering him and acknowledging it is only going to encourage the biggest booers to take it to another level. If he likes the boos, keep playing like you're playing Dewayne. If he wants them to stop, a few hits might help. I just don't know what talking about it with the media, just like Fields, accomplishes. Fans are frustrated. They pay a lot of money to watch the White Sox. The White Sox should hold up their end of the deal and at least play like a major league team.
-
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 11:24 AM) Anderson also had a long stretch of injury. Since May 29, Wise has had 20 PAs. Since May 19, Anderson has had 65. Plus factor in a recent short Brian illness. Again, we can argue the disparity should be greater...but I dont think that disparity is so small that we need to boo a struggling member of the home team. To me that accomplishes nothing. People say we discuss these two guys (and booing) too much. On one hand yes, but it's also part of a larger point. I would like to respect more of the people in the stands for the team I root for. And fans can positively or negatively impact players. It's not like football, but they have some effect. While I don't condone booing Wise, Dewayne has to look at his performance and realize he's going to get some booing. Even if he's making minimum, he's making a good living. If he can't handle the boos, I don't know why he would want to be a baseball player.
-
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 10:20 AM) Above all this, where's the conspiracy? Wise has 43 PAs this year, Anderson 126? Wise has 43 even with a full-time guy injured. Even in the interim they're trying the awful Jayson Nix in OF. If they loved Wise they wouldnt even experiment with that. If Wise hadn't separated his shoulder, both of their PA numbers would look much different.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 09:52 AM) Alright, I'll bite. Who did you boo? I've mentioned it before, Jaime Navarro. I don't get too emotional at games anyway, but even when things bother me, I can't bring myself to boo a guy I think is trying.

I've often wondered why some pitchers get a hand when they get taken out in the 5th or 6th inning and have given up 5 runs. I don't know why Ozzie is jealous Beckham is getting a hand for doing nothing. He should be happy for him. Beckham is smart enough to know he's going to have to produce or it will sound like Wise coming to the plate everytime he walks up to it. As far as Wise goes, I really think the only reason he's around is stubborness. I go to a lot of games. I've only booed one White Sox in my life. It wasn't Wise so I really don't understand when he gets booed, but he hasn't produced. I think Ozzie needs to know that people making a lot less money than him pay a lot more money to watch the White Sox play. Seeing Wise flail away at a 58 footeer gets old very quickly. Considering the family of 4 index, the only teams that are more expensive to watch are the Mets, Yankees, Red Sox and Cubs. White Sox fans deserve a higher quality player in the batter's box.

QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 08:57 AM) yup, worst sox manager of all time. hasnt done shi* in his tenure here. he has so many great players and cant win this year! ... He's just like every other manager, if you have good players you're good. If you have bad players, you haven't a clue. I really wonder how much difference managers make in wins and losses. What would the Sox record be if the greatest manager of all time and the greatest hitting coach of all time were here? Would it be any different? I think if it was it wouldn't be much. Its time to upgrade the talent. The owner will look smarter. The GM will look smarter, his manager will look smarter as will all the coaches.
